jutc fare hike

You shouldn't be even asking for a fare hike. How do you expect Jamaicans to fork out more out of their pockets that for some are already empty? How many persons have lost their jobs and have children or a child to send back to school. First the operators of the TOLL get an increase now JUTC wants one, who next?
The Taxi Association, JPS, NWC. Fact is the country is very burdened with financial problems those who really deserve it like teachers, nurses and doctors can't even get a wage increase. This is a recession have a heart to the problems facing your fellow countrymen. If the JUTC is given this increase it really shows us what our government and those put in positions of power really think about our welfare.

JUTC fare increase

Fellow Jamaicans, at this time we,re facing tough economical contrains and in addition to this our mode or modes of transportation varies but I think that a fare increase at this time is too harsh for jamaicans to fork out, evevryday goods and services raise to new price levels and our salaries are not, but I think all in all the JUTC needs to show the Jamaican people more partiallity, a fare hike from $50 to $70 is very exorditant, if they had ask for $10s more then it could be considered but $20 no sahm

JUTC Fare Hike

Yes, its a tough economic environment and its going to be hard on people, and I feel sorry for the honest, hardworking people who rely on this mode of transport.

But the company's hands are tied due to unnecessary operating costs....In a report issued by The Ministry of Transport and Works on July 8, 2009, they noted that about $8 Million worth of damage was done to buses commissioned in February 2009. That's a 5 month span. INCREDIBLE!

Can we blame them?

Fare increase

People let us be fair in the regard to an increase in bus fare. Nothing and absolutely nothing cost the same as it was four (4) years ago except bus fare. Gas has increased too much to mention and other necesseties in regard to vehicle daily operations.

JUTC Fare increase

JUTC needs to upgrade their service in terms of scheduling to make money and not try to gouge the public in this time of economic crisis. Betweev 9:00 - 9:30 a.m. it is impossible to get an 18A, 17A or 1A from Portmore on any day - we have to pile into the executive buses & take whatever crap they dish out tomus...

JUTC request for fare hike

Although the JUTC request for a fare hike is necessary the timing is way-off. It is unfair for the JUTC to submit such a request to the public now at the start of the school year. November would be a better time for them to do so before the Christmas season.

JUTC's unfair request

What are the jamaican people supposed to use and pay for these increases that every business interest is asking for when there is no money to spend on the basic necessities for the truly poor. Whappen, dem don't read bout the wage freezes, the lay-offs, redundancies and high cost of living, or are they living in a separate Jamaica from the one that everyone else is living in?

Fare Hike

I forgot to mention that the JUTC have expended a lot of money to upgrade the fleet, and there must be a return on that expenditure so it can sustain itself without depending on tax payers. This needs also to factored in a fare increase.

Fare Hike

A fare hike in this financial recessonary environment is a hard pill to swallow, much less to sell to the travelling public. The JUTC will always be running at a loss if they continue to expect change in their operations running on a route that is crowded with NTCS, route and illegal taxis. A fare increase is necessary only to level off with the increase in fuel cost from the time they got one, in addition making an adjustment for increase or decrease in the travelling public.

The government need to let the routes run by the JUTC be devoid of all other transport operating in like manner. Let the NTCS and route taxis be feeders for the JUTC. Any contravention of this by NTCS or taxis results in fine, jailtime and seizures. Is time we start to get people to operate in a structured system

fare hike

Even with th ebest of intentions, with the rate of inflation, costs have been driven up and even the most well streamlined and efficient companies must raise prices. Two things aresure in life, prices will rise and politicians will philander.

However, the question ofit being a social benefit for the poor comes up for discussion. It may be that as a social good, the gobt must subsidize the additional expenses (which can only be doen by more taxation anyways). So its either the costs are spread amongst the masses or bourne by those who use the services.

Fare hike

It is unreasonable for the JUTC to ask for a fare increase from it's commuters. Citizens that depend on this service are those from the lower income bracket and cannot aford it. JUTC need to improve it's management practices and streamline the way business is conducted in the operation and repair cycle if it's going to be profitable.

JUTC fare increase

Operational costs have all been increased, therefore it is only fair that bus fares be increased to meet these costs. The company have even purchased new buses and these buses are so comfortable. The cost of fares could be doubled, I think.
