Posted By: claude Posted On: Dec 5, 2003 Views: 1381 | like the sun a 24h watch is great because related to the natural apparent move of the sun. obviously, the sun tops at noon, doesn't it ? so, I feel more intuitive to have noon on the top. |
Posted By: MEF Posted On: Jun 26, 2003 Views: 1359 | 12-24 I had thought that I preferred 12 at the top, but as it is now 5:00am, it becomes clear that I prefer to see how much of the day has passed, and how much is left of the day ahead. Why else use an analog watch! |
Posted By: Finn in Denmark Posted On: Aug 28, 2002 Views: 1371 | Noon at top? Hi, Since most people are used to look at their 12 hours watch in daytime, they are also more used to see noon than midnight at the top, so keep noon at the top and let 00 start at the bottom. A compromise would be to have double length hourhand, or an turnable numberring, so each user can turn his watch as he wish :-) /Finn |
Posted By: Rainer Schwertschkow Posted On: Aug 11, 2002 Views: 1357 | 12 or 24 on top? Incompatible? For practical reasons, 00:00 and 24:00 hrs share the same location. I prefer to perceive the start of a new day at 00:00 hrs at the top of the round dial. The two time periods, 00:00 and 24:00 hrs, can co-exist at the same "geographical" location; one may be perceived to be the very last moment of a day (seen from that day), and 00:00 hrs is the very first moment of the next day (seen from the new day). Visualize it, if you will, as seen from the left and from the right. Hence, the two moments of time can occupy the same space. |
Posted By: John Locke Posted On: Jun 16, 2002 Views: 1285 | 1224 I built a wallclock with a 24 hour base, put it on a south wall, then labled it sunrise midday sunset and midnight to follow the suns path. Definetly noon at the top. I am excited to see 24 hour watches-didnt know for sure if they existed-glad I found your site! |
Posted By: Jack Posted On: Feb 10, 2002 Views: 1103 | micnight versus noon I originally thought of imagining the sun position facing north, but now think it is more natural to imagine facing south when reading your watch. Thus you can visualize the sun position as it passes from east (6:00) to west (18:00), and at noon if you looked at the sun your watch should read 12:00. |
Posted By: Witold Posted On: Jan 31, 2002 Views: 1099 | midnight vs noon 24 on top, but since there is no such thing as 24:00 hrs there should be 0. Why? Because the day starts at 00:00:00.000000000 and ends at 23:59:59.99999999999999. If you use 24:00 hrs day then has 24 hours and one second. When you get into your car the speedometer shows 0 km/h (mph) because the car is not moving until you press gas pedal. The same applies to the 00:00hrs, except 00:00hrs is infinitely short. Just think logically. You cannot start the day from 24hrs. every 24hrs you start from ZERO, tharefore you should use 00 on top. In our culture we start writing from the top. |
Posted By: Alze Wise Posted On: Jan 14, 2002 Views: 1006 | Midnight vs. Noon How confusing it is if your watch reads Midnight at the 12 noon position! You would think it would be dark out at lunch time. This might be okay if you lived in Norway or Sweden. It might also be okay if you lived in Alaska...how dreary if would be if we lived a backwards life! Tell all those watchmakers not to put Midnight at the Noon position!!! |

Posted By: philippe Posted On: Dec 10, 2001 Views: 968 | 12 untop logic commands and tells us o make a literal replica of our movement round the sun. so 12 untop, of course. Und Beate sagt, "wen man lebt, ist man oben und wen man stirbt ist man unten, naturlich" |

Posted By: Posted On: Aug 20, 2001 Views: 877 | you're always down at midnight, hahahaha |
Posted By: Posted On: Aug 20, 2001 Views: 840 | it requires brains for noon to be on top. |
Posted By: Posted On: Jul 5, 2001 Views: 765 | it show the position of the Sun when we face North |
Posted By: Posted On: May 24, 2001 Views: 743 | How come 24=midnight but not 0=midnight? But in any case, I like "midnight" on top. If the markings on a watch contain only one big dot (I like simplicity), it looks best on TOP! |
