| Posted By: Anonymous Posted On: Nov 19, 2007 Views: 551 | the golden compass ok, so i need to rant because they are making a movie out of one the absolutely most amazing FANTASY books ever called the Golden Compass by Philip Pullman and people are boycotting it and spazzing out because he doent believe in GOd and APPERENTLY he wants to use this movie to brainwash children into hating od and GRRRR PEOPLE ARE RETARDED THERE'S AN EFFING REASON THESE BOOKS ARE IN THE FANTASY SECTION OF THE LIBRARY!! like this anti-movie review: http://snopes.com/politics/religion/compass.asp people are seriuosly baddening up the book--the reviews even SAY "based on a series that follows the adventures of a streetwise girl who travels through mutiple worlds populated by witches, armor plated bears, and sinister ecclestical assassins" not to mention the talking morphing animals that follow people everywhere, the invisible particles that cling to poeple and talk to them through the actual golden compass/ a machine in the 3rd book, the angels, soul-sucking ghosts, and tiny inch high people that ride dragonflies that all appear in the last book (where it gets "super anti-god!!") okay, i don't know the authors veiw on life and stuff, but it doesn't show up alot in the books, YES in the last book the kids """"kill"""" God- but in the book God was just the first angel, he's old and sick and they free him from his prison and he finally is able to die which his cruel ""helper"" refused to let him do! its like a three page part of a series of three, like 500 pg books! i first read the golden compass in 6th grade and the idea it was about leaving the church never even OCCURED to me, and now i an a high school sophomore and own them and have read them SOO many times and the idea STILL never occured to me until these "boycotts" of the movie came!!! I AM PLANNING ON SEEING THIS MOVIE AND IF IT ROX I WILL RECOMMEND IT EVERYONE I KNOW AND I WILL STILL RECOMMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE it is an amazing fantasy book and even if it IS supposed to be taking a stab at religion isn't believing in religion SUPPOSED to be your choice??? if the church yells at you for ever questioning your religion you're going to depise it more than if you get to choose! |

| Posted By: Anonymous Posted On: Nov 22, 2007 Views: 546 | RE: the golden compass my family is christian but not super-physco religious like-- i mean, we do hospitality at church and my dad is big into stewardship but they arent super >.< , like against non-catholics... my parents believe religion is your choice and that if they are controlling and won't let us read or watch "anti-catholic" things we'll just hate them and the church more than if we are exposed to those things and decided on our own... my dad HAS had ne specifically read a cou-ple books, like "the mysteries of history" which specifically has a chap. on if jesus lived and has evidence for and against him |
