Happy September 11th

Yes, here we are to celebrate the second anniversary of that fateful day when ultra conservatives were handed such a wonderful gift. With the help of 19 Iraqi nationals (despite the fact that almost every single one of them was born and raised in Saudi Arabia), almost 3000 people became the perfect pawns for the White House’s agenda in the fact that they were dead and could not decry the things that are still being done in their names.

The generation of Americans who lived through the Depression and WWII has been called the “Greatest Generation”. What a difference fifty-some years can make. If the hardships and sacrifices helped shape that generation, then what is happening today can only reaffirm that we are now the “Wussy Generation”.

Our fearless leader, Dubya, in the hours and days following the terrorist attacks, he could have asked of great things from us. He could have asked that we give of ourselves and to sacrifice so that we could move forward and rebuild in a manner that would have made all the generations before us proud. This was one of those crucial moments in history when true leadership could have united the populace to levels of untold greatness.

Instead, we were told to shop until we drop and to fill the gas tanks on our cars and drive around for hours.

The White House offered us a placebo, and we eagerly swallowed and said, “Thank you! Can I have another?”

We were given our revenge, our pound of flesh. We went over to Afghanistan and removed the Taliban from power. We “bombed them up to the Stone Age” and in the end, we left them with a new government that still must negotiate with the same warlords that the Taliban dealt with.

We also went there to get the mastermind of the terrorist attack, Osama bin Laden. After all the smoke had cleared we still had not found him. That’s okay. We were told that he was probably dead in one of the hundreds of caves in the mountains that we had bombed. Out of sight, out of mind. He must be dead despite the many recordings that keep popping up that are reported from him.

Still, we had our pound of flesh. Now it was time for a barrel of oil.

In an act of slight of hand magic that would have astounded David Copperfield, the White House place the 19 terrorist in a hat and pulled out Saddam Hussein. Yes! Saddam was behind the terrorist attacks of September 11 and to make matters worse, he had more weapons of mass destruction (chemical, biological and nuclear) than any country in the history of the Universe.

We had to get this guy!

Now!

We couldn’t wait for any more inspections or the United Nations, so this year we went off to bomb Iraq and get Saddam Hussein. So, with our good buddy Tony Blair, we thrilled the folks back home with a televised war. And what a success it was. In the first few days we secured the Iraqi oil fields. After a few days of “Shock and Awe” followed by a few more weeks of moving our tanks forward, we toppled Baghdad.

To assist our soldiers, we gave them each a deck of card with photos of the people they were after. Amazingly, these guys have grown up on games like Pokemon and Magic the Gathering that they can’t go to war without a deck of cards. And in the end, we still didn’t find Saddam Hussein. Still, we were told that he was probably dead. Despite the tape recordings, we were certain he was lying dead in the rubble some place.

Of course, we still haven’t turned up any of these weapons of mass destruction that Saddam had. It makes no difference that we knew where they were. Hell, we even showed the United Nations photos showing that we knew were they were. But, we get there and… Poof! They must have been moved!

That’s all right, though, because we are immediately given the mantra that our primary goal from the very start was to remove Saddam from power. The fact that this goal was not the reason given for going to war with Iraq at the start is irrelevant. Besides, if you can’t trust a President who land in a fighter on an aircraft carrier to announce we won the war, who can you trust. Surely, all those troops being killed since then can rest in peace knowing that they were not killed in a war.

If you think that these two little wars are the only rewards reaped from the September 11 attacks, think again. The truest gains are those that have been made by the ultra conservative agenda to weaken, if not outright remove, the Bill of Rights. And because we have the corpses of those who were killed that day trotted out before us like the Holy Grail, they are assured that we will line up like cattle to accept this assault on the Constitution without question.

And it was all so easy. The public cowered in fear that some terrorist controlled jetliner was going to crash into their homes as they watched Faux News. It is incredible that people in the middle of nowhere were convinced that their little one and a half bath modular home was high on the al Qaida hit list. The terror that the terrorist delivered to our shores became instant currency for the White House.

The “Wussy Generation” said, “Please save us! We will let you do whatever you want Dubya, Cheny, Rove, Rumsfeld and corporations you represent. Just let me live another day in fear.”

So we were given the Patriot Act, where the name was so tongue in cheek that any true patriot would have vomited if they had read the thing. We were given a color chart so we could see how afraid we were supposed to be each day. We were told that marijuana financed terrorism, not oil, so we would keep buying SUV’s. And most importantly, we were told that any problem that existed was due to Clinton.

And we were given really neat phrases to say to those who didn’t march in line:

“If you don’t like it then just move to one of those other countries!”

This one is funny coming from the conservatives. For 8 years they complained about the White House under Clinton, and not once did I ever hear of any of them moving to another country. And there was one country out there that was perfect for them. Afghanistan. After all, the Taliban knew how to treat their women and stop any descent. Every time you say news from there you saw every man and boy walking around with assault rifles and RPGs, so they obviously didn’t believe in gun control. And it was a country that believed in governing by religion. The only problem was that they prayed to Allah and not Jeebus, but still…

“If you have nothing to hide, what are you worried about?”

Amazingly, this comes from an administration that refuses to disclose who they consulted with when they were creating their energy plan. And these guys want to know what books we all read.

“If you don’t support the President, You aren’t supporting the troops!”

This is funny on so many levels. To equate the troops overseas with Dubya is comical given his service record. And unless the troops are employed by Haliburton, they shouldn’t be looking for any increase in pay or benefits.

“Nuke them all and let God sort them out.”

This one was a favorite of the xenophobes. This works on two levels. First, it shows that everything can be fixed by indiscriminant killing. After all, Jeebus preached that all who are different was the way to his side in Heaven. And secondly, as long as their foreigners who don’t look like us, who cares. As we have seen here recently, the last thing we would want is for those people to come to this country and drain our resources.

But the “Wussy Generation” buckled down and gave their all for their country in the harrowing times. They put little flags on their cars to show they were patriots. That’s right, they replaced they hockey pennants with flags made in China. And they bought shirts and sweatshirts made in Taiwan that had stars and stripes and eagles and trite phrases like “These colors never run” or “We will always remember”.

So, everyone be sure to celebrate this second anniversary of the day when faced its fear by selling its soul. You can bet the occupants of the White House will party tonight for the gift that 19 terrorist gave them just 2 short years ago.

RE: Happy September 11th

Who do you think you are, James A. Michener? Do you really think people who are interested in women's combat are going to read something this long?

RE: RE: Happy September 11th

It's sad when people come to a message board about fem combat, and use it to post their political opinions. Hey, it's an open forum, Wiz, post away, but don't you think you could find a better forum to write your long winded crap?

RE: Happy September 11th

I think the above is a disgusting bit of nonsense. To make light of 9/11/01 as some kind of political event that "helped the right wing" as a "gift" is repugnant. Only the AZ gov, Janet Napolitano, who said the event was a "hate crime" could have been more distasteful, but this came close in it's bottom feeding.
Stick with the Chin stuff, Waz, stay away from politics.

You have some valid points, but it's the total....

.....score, Wiz, that you have to consider.

We're still bogged down in Afghanistan ? ? ?

True, and we need to get the hell out of there ASAP--good point. But the Taliban, who were AIDING, ABETTING, AND HARBORING OSAMA BIN LADEN AND OTHER MEMBERS OF AL-QUEDA, are better off having been KILLED AND/OR KICKED OUT of the country so the Afghans can have hope of establishing some form of progressive self-government without living in dread and fear--that's part of the TOTAL score. (True, those damn warlords are now the ones that are part of the problem, and they need to be reconciled with fast, but just because one problem replaces another doesn't mean that the situation in Afghanistan should have been left as it was pre-9-11.)

Still haven't been able to locate any of Hussein's alleged Weapons of Mass Destruction ? ? ?

True--and Bush should just get over it and be forthright and tell everyone that American and British intellegence sources were exaggerating--good point. But Hussein DID have residual evidence [the dozen or so barrels of toxic weapons-grade chemicals that the troops eventually
found; the beginning structures of labs or rooms,
that the troops also found, that COULD have been used (had they been completely built for their intended purpose} to process/build bio/chem/nuclear Weapons of Mass Destruction, etc.].--that's part of the TOTAL score. Getting rid of Hussein was FAR BETTER OFF than leaving him
in power with ALL THAT POTENTIAL, considering all the evil that he's committed in his past with the use of chemical weapons against the Kurdish people and his invasion of another helpless Arab country (Kuwait) and all his other de-stabilizing activity in the Mid-East.

Finally, as far as the "Wussy Generation" label goes, forget it; you're confusing sheepishness with misplaced motives. I can understand your grounds for thinking about the latter, but calling anybody "wussy" in a situation like this (military or civilian) is a big bunch of crap, period.

RE: uhhh, Tongue Tangled strikes again!

The Taliban warlords are neither 'kicked out' nor killed, and are in fact, once again ruling Afghanistan with Murkins retreated to a few firebases and small cities. Pay attention to the news, ****e fer brains.

At least a hundred million people died far too young during the glorious WW2 "generation" - I dunno about you foolish Minkys, but I would call that the "Stupidest Generation". The greatest number of people murdered in the history of humanity - yep, reason to be proud.

War is not noble or glorious, as anyone who has actually BEEN IN ONE will tell you. War is a schitstorm of murder by death, nothing more, the very worst humanity has to offer. My old man said it was too horrible to even talk about, and totally shattered his silly, adolescent, escape-the-farm fantasy of being a soldier boy. What a fool he was, and he didn't mind saying so.

We know better now. We are more educated, not so easily led into foolish crusades by powermad leaders, our lives have value as something other than cannon fodder for tyrants. My hopes are that humanity is not stupid enough to ever, ever, do that again.

As a culture, the "Greatest Generation" in the history of the United States was the 60's Generation when social awareness came of age, no question about it.

Thats not just my opinion, it's a fact.

LEEGE WRITES ...
We know better now. We are more educated....

Maybe some are more educated , but is the taliban & other terrorist orgs? Whats there to say about a group of people whos primary existance is to kill American's ?

They made a very lame attempt at getting our leaders . Instead they went ahead and blew the **** outta a lot of innocent people.
They could have ruined our economy in other ways than this. Do you call that whole plan of 9/11 educated ?

And then they wonder why we're after them and hate them so much ? Don't worry Leege
you'll get to talk about your BS for some time cuz this will go on for a while.

RE: oh right...

Good catch, Dr Dio, I wanted to mention that as well, but forgot.

EXCELLENT ESSAY Wizz! Don't let the ankle biters discourage you. They have no points to make. They cannot refute what you've said.

All they can do is to cry: 'Wah! this is off topic!' because they got nothin' as usual.

What is "On Topic" and "Off Topic"?

Legion wrote:"All they can do is to cry: 'Wah! this is off topic!' because they got nothin' as usual."

I think I'll have to agree on this point with you Legion.

Tangler posts something about Jett, JSK posts some real catfights in Jerry Springer show, I post about Helen's Live Event. Look how many people read them, and how many people contribute to them.

I know Mr. Bear is a prof. at Berkeley, and complains about the off topic staff, but I've never seen him write anything about "On Topic".

What is more on topic than Jett, Jerry Springer, and Helen's Live Event that he doesn't bother to contribute? I'd really love to learn about it from a prof.

RE: Happy September 11th

And you Harry, continue to go straight down the middle, occasionally looking to the left and right. Where are you coming from? Dam, you are all over the place! Take a stand and at least give us all a hint where the hell you are coming from, please. So you agree with Wiz boys post? And you agree with Legions' "RAH, RAH, cheerleader" post? I/m now remembering why you used to get s*h*i*T on Barbs board. You probably don't, huh?

That's the only Jim I remember. What do you mean by I was getting **** on Barb's board?

As to agreeing with Wizard's post...I can't prove he is wrong, and I also can not prove he is right. How about you? I don't believe anything I don't know, but I'm open to any opinions, if you have any, yours is welcome too.

'AMERICANS ANNOYED BY "ALL THIS
INTERNATIONAL ****" ON INTERNET
Web's Increasingly Worldly Flavor Threatens Americans' Worldview

PULLMAN, WASH. (SatireWire) — The profusion of international news available on the Internet has made it increasingly difficult for the average American to ignore the rest of the world, a trend researchers say threatens Americans' long, proud history of disregarding anything not about them.

"With all the foreign newspapers and multi-cultural sites, the Internet is making it almost impossible for the average American to remain uninformed and apathetic," said Samantha Lessborn of Washington State University, which conducted the survey. "Americans can still do it. But it now takes effort, whereas before it was as easy as turning off Tom Brokaw whenever he said 'In South Korea today...'"

According to survey participant Danny Grisham, a 22-year-old from Cheyenne, Wyoming, it's not just the plethora of international news on the Web that is irritating. "Look, I can get around the news. I just turn off Reuters headlines in MyYahoo," he said. "But even some of the search sites like Yahoo and Alta Vista are available in different languages. Like everybody in the world doesn't speak English. Yeah, right."

"I can see where it's important if we're, like, beating some country in the Olympics or bombing them or, ideally, both," Grisham added. "But if some Colombian drug lord sinks a ferry full of Israeli soldiers in North Latvoania or Serbo-Malaysia, or wherever, and Americans aren't involved, what has that got to do with me?"

Other respondents said they were appalled, not just by the availability of non-U.S. news, but by the way important U.S. news is reported by some of these foreign sites. "Yesterday, for instance, the St. Louis Rams beat the Atlanta Falcons, OK, and I go to the London Times site and it's not even there," said Chip Pernadge of Kansas City, Mo. "Jesus, no wonder those guys lost the war and had to give Hong Kong back to Canada."

Sensing a market opportunity, Net Nanny, makers of Net Nanny filtering software, announced this week it will introduce NetNarrow, an English-only product that automatically filters out content that appears to be international. Specifically, the software looks for world datelines and keywords indicative of irrelevant foreign stories, including "Shiite," "post-Apartheid," and "Bob Geldof."

Survey-taker Craig Barker of Brooklyn, New York, said he will be among the first to get NetNarrow. "On the Web, there are so many ways to get news from so many different places, I could really get some fresh insights into what's going on in other countries if I wanted to," he said.. "But I don't want to."

"You'd think these Internet people would know that," Barker added. "I mean, that's why the Internet is called America Online, right? It's supposed to be about America."

Editor's Note: It seems that after reading this entirely fictional story, some investors/customers of Net Nanny believed the company actually was going to produce NetNarrow software. As a result, Net Nanny asked SatireWire to please assure people that this is not the case. No, really.'

Note: This is taken from an American Website, nothing to do with foreigners.

When Harry met..Jim

So sorry, I'm not the racist Jim Reid, although as a long time visitor and contributor to Barbs board, I do remember him. Great cut and paste, if it wasn't so late, I find an interresting (at least to me) article on the web and put it here. You seem to have a chip on your shoulder. Why? Damned if I know, and damned if i really give a S*H*I*T. But reading your posts in the last week or so, you are either reading peoples' writings wrong, or p*i*s*s*e*d off at the world. Hey, free board, go for it...but expect it back, Harold....that being said, glad to know you you pay huge taxes here in the states, also glad to know you like to talk about it. Me? I got tax write offs up the ass. Homeowner, primary bread winner in the household, and 3 little deductions I call my will chasers. Sorry "Harry" gotta crash! And I promise...I'll find something to cut and paste off the American Internet next time.

glad to meet you Jim

As to the "chip on my shoulder", I push back when I am pushed, and sometimes I may say things I wouldn't say under normal circumstances.

God bless you and your family!

Dio, I admit your humor is funny, but when you....

......use satire to poke fun at the horrible events in New York that happened back at the World Trade Center on 9-11-01,..........I have to admit that it's not funny, not at all (except to those who have a warped sense of humor).

Yes, I full-well know deep down you're completely
sickened by those events like all of us over here on this side of "The Big Pond", but making sport of it is really not cricket, NOT at all.

By analogy, I for one would sure as hell NOT be funny about the horrible events that rained death and destruction down on London during the blitz (and other subsequent, horrific bombings) back during 7-10-40 to 10-31-40. To do so would be ludicrous and make a mockery of all the brave souls of the Royal Air Force who lost their lives, all the civilian firemen and municipal emergency crews who lost their lives or were injured as well, and all the untold suffering that was endured by all of the U.K. (i.e., both physically and emotionally), during that hellish time.

Were Churchill alive today, he would certainly agree.

Try and be more sensitive, Field Marshall, and show a stiff upper lip, instead of a drop-down guffaw of baseless humor, from now on.
