Go Sox!

Sometimes it isn't all about the money, much to Steinbrenner's chagrin.

Pedro, Schilling, Lowe, Wakefield! And with that hitting lineup, if they don't win it all, I would think it would be an upset! I'm an ex Mass guy, now living in Georgia. Screw the Braves. They aren't Americas team. The Sox are. I would dare say there is almost as many Red Sox fans in my neck of the woods, as there are Braves fans.

RE: Done deal...Schilling coming to Boston

Ya know Spence, The Fonz spent an entire Summer & Fall pulling for the Sox; I laughed aloud when Zimmerski played raging bull to Pedro's bullfighter. I jumped up & down for the BoSox. NOW, the Diamondbacks have pretty much mortgaged next year away while giving hope to the snakebit peeps of Bawwwston.
And where were you when my boys the Red Wings were beating the damn Boo Hoo Blues last night?!?! Why, I'll bet you were pulling for St. Louis, hoping to suck up to Cleo in hopes of us getting a few cheap shots of bimbos rassklin in bikinis.
I know...I know...what have I done for ya lately?!?!
Hey, only 89 days left before Schilling & Co start spring training. Count me on board that bandwagon! Wings & Pistons in May & June, the Bosox cram it up the Yankees assesssssss June July & August & play the Cubbies in October. Boys, it don't get better than this.
Belee dat.

hearing you loud and clear, ATF!

Understood, Fonz! I know you hold a spot for the Sox in your heart. And we here in the N/E appreciate Arizona dealing Schilling for a couple of average, at best, pitchers. Of course we (Sox) dealt Schilling back in the the late 80's for Mike Boddicker, who had a few good years, but who knew Schilling was gonna be as good as he turned out? It's a crap shoot.

Had to laugh at the Zimmer reference. Believe it or not, Zim used to come into a bar I worked at as a bartender in Treasure Island (St Pete area) back in the late 80's. His wife and himself lived in the condos across the street. He was in 2 or 3 times a week. They would sit at the bar, she would have a glass of white wine, he would have 2 Crown Royal manhatans, straight up, then they would get a table and eat. Great tipper! Well, he would always leave me a 10, which is pretty good. He loved to play the dogs.

Another regular in the bar was Bill Lee, who became a golfing and partying freind of mine back in those days. He was playing in the now defunct Senior baseball league. Not sure if you remember or not, but Mr Zim, and Mr Lee, didn't see eye to eye on many things, such as how to run a pitching staff, how one should carry themself in public, and politics. In fact, back in the 70's, Lee refered to Zim as a gerbil, among other things.

At the risk of sounding like a name dropper, (or Jabroni,) Bill Lee was in Maine about 3 weeks ago (he lives in Vermont now) and I did run into him. I asked him about the Pedro/Zimmer thing, and he said Zim looked like a bowling ball with ears, hitting the ground. We were going to play golf a couple days later, but the weather was s.h.i.t.t.y, so we never did. He's about as left wing as you can get, but lots of fun...and by the way, he drinks Bacardi and coke, (like a cyber bud of mine from Arizona, formally from Detroit) You would like him!

Red wings? I can't watch any hockey, until at least late Jan. Even the Brooooons are boring me. I'll try and cheer for the Wings, ATF, but no promises. My old man, who's been gone for years now was a Tiger fan, so I hold a spot for Detroit teams in my heart.

But...hows about them Pats???!!!???

Be well and healthy.

RE: OK, you wont believe this!

But, driving into a gas station yesterday there was this guy, not too young (maybe 40, I don't know), with a kinda funky haircut and a funny look on his face. Just the I noticed it: A Patriots jacket he was a wearin'! Too cool! In 'zona. Now, I can't believe that you guys have discovered the desert but -- thinking of you, wiseguy and killer -- I can only say: There goes the neighborhood!LOL
Anyway, I remember Jim Bouton's 'Ball Four', wherein Zimmer used the F word more often than Dio says cheers or leege says someone's stupid.
Saw Lee on teevee couple of times. His pic can be found in Websters Dictionary next to the word "strange."
Oh, everyone knows that Manhattan SOUTHERN COMFORTS are the best Manhattan.
Finally, gotta admit the Pats-Indy game was a good one. 'Course, with an old Michigan QB (Brady), whadja expect?

Manhattan connoisseur

RE: Done deal...Schilling coming to Boston

I haven't read "Ball Four" in over 25 years now. It was a breakthrough book for it's time, but I think nowadays, it would be pretty calm. I don't remember any Zimmer references in it, but I'll take your word on that.

I read in the Sunday Globe (Boston paper) that Jose Canseco (who's under house arrest, btw) has a book coming out, and wants to be a martial arts movie star. Evidently, he's a black belt in some stupid fighting style, and his quote was ..with my looks and fighting ability, I could be the next big thing. Uh huh. As they liked to say on the old Sat Nite Live skits... "He lika the juice"

And, just getting home, did I just hear on CNN that Johnny Cochran has now been retained by Michael Jackson? Say it a'int true?

And, oh, yeah, Bill Lee is bizarre, but I will say this. he plays up to his media image, and plays it well. Yup, he loves to get high still, but he's a very intelligent guy, and has a heart of gold. hey, he hates the Yankees, he hates government, he hates people who conform to what the big boys of "society" think is right or wrong.

Dam, wait a minute, I think I'm gonna introduce him to Legion! I'll make the drinks, and laugh my ass off. Gauranteed interresting conversation!

Here's to the Xmas season nearly being over!

RE: Done deal...Schilling coming to Boston

I met Jose Con.... (however you spell his dumb name) about 8 years ago at a bar I worked at.
Usually it was frequented by a few celebrities during various charities and stuff.
Anyways that same day I met Rodger Clemen's wife , Dennis Ekersly, Cam Neely and Jose the loser.
For one these people don't need freebies , but I would always give out a free beer or two here and there. Most would say thanks and even drop a dime in the old tip jar , but not Jose.
This meatstick complained like a baby when his choice of beer ran out (on tap)and we didn't have it in bottles. He nearly went through the roof !
Then while he waited impatiently I heard him poking fun of the place saying he'd like to go to another "real bar" . So for his all but half a minute wait I told him " Don't worry Jos'e the 3 beers will be on us "
No response and no change of look either.
I also noticed he was "jawing" (usually brought on by cocaine use)
That was until I asked him for an autograph
which I never ever did , but my sister loved the guy and I told him that.
Again a huge complaint , but he signed a napkin and threw the pen down , took his beers and left without a thank you or tip.

"Yeah, thanks a lot buddy " I said as he walked over to where he and his "buds" were sitting.
Everyone there saw he was a total jerk and to make matters worse the guy came back to the bar and asked me " Do you have a problem?"

"Not anymore" I said looking at him the same way he did to me.

He turned and walked a way . I could see he and his friends looking over from time to time and I know they were talking about me.
They left within a few minutes and when he did we all sang the "shana na na hey hey good bye " song (after he was gone ofcourse)

Later that evening my boss recieved a call with one Jose complaining about the service he got that afternoon.
The funny thing was my boss was right behind me while all of this went on.

So Jose can think he could have been a lot of things in life . First you need a life .

RE: Done deal...Schilling coming to Boston

Well. I'm not sure what you mean or what you were trying to say. That a celebrity was an ass hole? Maybe you were an idiot? Are you remembering everything exactly as the way you are typing it? Or remembering it the way YOU want to remember it? I've been freinds with Jose Canseco for about 15 years now. Though I haven't seen him for over 8 years now. But I still do speak to him. I will stand up for him on this one though. He is a very personable guy, and talks to everyone. If he blew you off, you most likely, either gave him ****, or got in his face. The guy will sign autographs till the cows come home, he gets along with the media, and plays the game well.

So what's your point? He didn't like you?

RE: Done deal...Schilling coming to Boston

No idiot . Noone liked the asshole. Like I said I was a nice guy to everyone who came into the place & I wouldn't have worked there if I didn't know what I was doing or didn't know how to deal with the public.

I think he was more ****ed to start because I treated him no differently than any other person off the street at first. Normal and decent but not kissing his ass.
When a little problem like a keg running out happened I'd expect an "ok I'll wait " or "what else do you have" not " DONT YOU PEOPLE HAVE ANYTHING GOOD ?" like the idiot said

I didn't even write the whole conversation basically because theres no need. Just from the words written above you can tell the type of person he is or acts.

Sure maybe the guy had a crappy afternoon and I just happened to be the subject of venting , but then again I've heard other stories just like this.

I can only imagine how nice he was in jail ?
Is that where you met the prick ?

Maybe he was jawing because someone else smacked him for being a jerk earlier in the day and it wasn't because of substance . But , because of the guys history and being it around that time I can assume drugs ... I didn't say it was .

Like I said I met a lot of the "famous" while I worked at this place and NOONE else was a rude as this guy . I can count on my fingers how many rude people in general I had to deal with and when its a STAR it kidda sticks in your head .

To top it off the man tried to get me in trouble afterwards ? So what do you want me to say about the guy ?

That it was a pleasureable experience ?

RE: Jose Conseco

Hmmm...
Now, I've never met the man, but - as I said recently - my cuz & I ran down for an autograph and got rebuffed by a certain Johnny Klippstein years ago with those immortal words one expects from a Jabroni brain: F--k off! Now, as a reminder, we were about 11 at the time. Now wasn't that special?
Killer, you gotta remember that many peeps worship at the font of money, power or fame. Everything else is ancillary to this mindset. In short, I believe Killer. Why would he diss Conseco or act like a jackass? Why would Killer lie about this? The Seco guy is like the worshipper of Jose. Now, we COULD ask Jose but we're ah...not in prison. And I don't write inmates. Perhaps someone could ask Jabroni...
