Playin "stat boy"

ESPN has this show where these two debaters go at it, called 'Pardon the Interruption'. Whenever there is an error made, at the end of PTI a geek called 'stat boy' makes any and all corrections.
I shall play stat boy for the day.
First, I shall bitch slap moi for erroneously saying that General Santa Ana's Army consisted of 'German Hessians'. Not quite true. Sorry. In actuality, what tricked me was an author/historian on C-Span who said that Santa Ana's troops that marched some 600 miles to the Alamo were dressed much like Hessian's, were indeed commanded - in part - by German Generals (I'll provide the names later, damn, lost 'em again), and fought, not 'Americans' but 'Texas Federalists' who rejected Mexico City's centralized control. Ironically, Santa Ana was initially a Federalist himself. Anyway, my previous point, to Steve, was that the historians and Hollywood tend to forget that the 'Mexicans' weren't all "aggressive, dark skinned interlopers", but were men who were fighting for Mexican sovereignty against both Anglo "Filibusters" and Tejedo "Federalists" (Hispanic Texans). In short, the Alamo's history was written and promoted by the victors - as is usual- but was much more complicated than 'honorable white men fighting off the evil darker skin Mexicans'. In fact, many Mexicans then - as today - have portions of French, Spanish, Irish and German origins. But my initial rant was incorrect with respect to the 'Hessians' comment. btw, the History Channel had a special on the Alamo last night and I then remembered the Alamo statement. Also, I note that Steve & I were in agreement, as far as I know, on this topic, arcane & old as it is.
Correction two is for legion. Senator Strom Thurmond was NEVER a member of the Ku Klx Klan. That 'honor' belongs to Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV). Thurmond, in fact, had a strange relationship with African Americans for decades. True, he claimed he was a 'segregationist' but he also was one of the first Southernors to hire blacks on his staff, often took his campaigns to the 'Negro' sections of Columbia and other SC cities, and the 'rumor' of his affair(s) with black women were well known. It was true, however, that he ran as a segregationist on the States Rights Party in 1948. States Rights had a lot more to do with public policy than simply racial issues or civil rights, to be sure, but I agree we should never have allowed Thurmond to forget his past, including his evil support for inequality. So, color me on the side that has little patience for this sort of hypocracy. A 'Klansman' though? Doubtful. We may never know who some of the KKK peeps were, as their id's were well hidden in that evil secret 'group'.

Strom and his jungle fever! Booya

I still can't get over that one. Strange days we're living in, that's for damn sure ole buddy. Saddam being dug out of a hole in the ground and Strom's 80 year old love child surfacing. Sheesh!Suddenly, current events are tantamount to a cheesy soap opera.

Speaking of bizarro goings on...have you heard about the latest conspiracy rumor? That Osama's been captured already and Dubya is waiting for another drop in the polls to trot him out in front of everybody? I think that Osama should be presented clean shaven and wearing a tasteful sweater! It would be an ironic contrast to shaggy Saddam, don't you think?

RE: Playin "stat boy"

I heard Jessica Lynch found Saddam. Captured him single-handed in a hellacious firefight. She shot most of his bodyguards but ran out of ammo and had to garrot a few with her panty hose, but then she somehow wound up between the Sadman and his gun. She then dropped her robe and flak jacket to reveal an American flag one piece thong and challenged the dictator to wrestle as she handed him one of his new packages of Speedo underwear.

Saddam said "I'm a soldier. I surrender."

And she said "I'm a soldier too." God it was sweet.

Needless to say, she pinned him easy and made him say "I give up".

Jessie Lynch....bitchfighter!

I could see little Jessica getting down and dirty and doing some good ole white trash catfighting. I kind of wish some catfight producer could sign her. I bet that little gal could throw down if she caught another little trailer park queen messing with her boyfriend Bubba.
