D-Day, according to British schoolkids:

Happy War Day.

Look what they're teaching the kids in England! Dio probably thinks the Brit Tommy saved the world when all he really did was get a big ol mud hole stomped into his arse by Hitler. (British Army: Gen Austin Powers?)

RE: We don't need no education .......

Tell me Leege do these kids wear helmets while they eat and ride in a short bus?
Thats just how the world is today. I'd be afraid to ask American kids their age the same question.
Lets face it to them it was 200 years ago and they didn't have to live through it or see anyone grieving over the loss of a loved one. Its impact means nothing to them. This happens as time goes on with anything.

I know the Frogs were still greatful this year as they always are. Infact, the COALITION of that era did a great job.

My Wife's grandfather just wrote a "mini" booklet and gave it to his kids and grandkids talking about his life before, during and after the war.
Kinda shocking. He was a leader in his platoon during the war and was there for the invasion on Utah Beach.

Although he wouldn't watch Saving Private Ryan he saw some clips of it one evening and said it was even worse than that when they were storming the beaches. He said he was not only shooting, but pulling up his friends who were getting bogged down with the heavy stuff strapped to their backs.

One of the nicest and honest guys you could ever meet. I know he killed a hell of a lot of people and he kinda mentioned that to me one evening while we were staying at their house down in Cape Cod.
He rarly talks about the war, but usually goes to events and honors from them. He meet Clinton one year and recieved an award and has gone to Europe on a number of occasions and still remains freindly with some people over there.

The thing is there are many men like him. Thousands. Sadly once they are gone it will again be a different world. Sure we can laugh now at the problem with people not knowing important historic events, but who can you blame for this? Not every kid has a grandfather or father/mother that will sit down with them and talk about war. Kids watch so much television and I didn't see much in regards to the ceremonies for WW2,WW1, Vietnam etc. on the tube. My nefew brought his history book over one afternoon and I recall seeing a paragraph about WW2 in there. They condenced everything.

Might as well watch a movie rather than read it in a history book because like I said its been shortened from about (lets say)30 pages to 30 paragraphs.

Should kids from countries who needed the US know all the historical data? Should American kids know it? Yes , but sadly neither do. I'll be sure to talk to my kid about war and explain why and when these events happened.

Ofcourse by the time he or she is old enough they'll know what war is about anyways.

Welcome to Planet Soundbite

Yes, kids are dumb.... wait, adults are dumb too. History is not important anymore to the attention deficient, the slave mentality. The virtues of todays world is a good honest hard days work, never think too much about anything that is not related to your everyday living, and validate your irrelevant existance by purchasing commodities.

Many call it normality.

I call it a prelude.

Cheers

RE: D-Day, according to British schoolkids:

Aaaah yes, those were the days, eh? You don't see 50 million people getting slaughtered in a planetary wide conflict every generation, do ya?

That's why they're the 'Greatest' generation, because they did it the best and the biggest, mass killing of all time.

The good old days. When men were men, not chicken hearted girly men like today. When wimmin knew their place and got a good backhand in the head once in a while to keep em in line. And we kept those lazy nigra's separated or out of the armed forces altogether, not to mention those fags we beat down wherever we found them.

Yep. What a great generation.

Happy War Day!

Prelude to what? (required question)

RE: Prelude to coming attractions, I spoze...

hehehe...
yeah, I mentioned some time ago about this idiot I worked with who asked me if I had fought in World War II. Nope, I said, I was in the Civil War. Hmmm...he then asked "what was that about???" "Slavery," I responded, "I was for it, but we lost."
"Oh, too bad, he said..."
Yeah....too bad.
The idiocy maginot line has yet to be crossed by these 'chillin' who must have some excuse, right? (Crack baby; raised by heroin street addicts; alien abductions, I don't know).
Ah yes, the 'prelude to coming attractions' as noted thusly:
"Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
George Santayana (1863-1952), Spanish born, American Philosopher/Historian

atf,
awaiting the next wonderful war

RE: D-Day, according to Garp

Well Leege I could expect those types of words from someone who looks up to and sides with Hitler.
America and the rest of the countries that KILLED did so to keep all of Europe from being taken over by communist rule. Hitler was gaining power over everyone back then and lucky for some countries we did actually go over there and lend a hand. We lost thousands as well.
And a couple million dead Jews just wasn't enough for ya either?
Iraq and Saddam is a constant reminder of what happens when we keep to ourselves and when other countries do the same.
Today they are called Kurds which Saddam and his empire put to death all the same.

Happy war day to you Leege.
I call it freedom.

RE: D-Day, according to British schoolkids:

Hitler wasn't 'communist' you pinhead. Russia was. You know, one of our 'Allies?'

Hitler hated the communists.

You out-stupified the British schoolkids JSK, congratulations. I knew you could do it.

Now put the pointy hat back on a resume your usual position in the corner.

RE: tehe

Ok so its a run on sentence.Whatever dude.
We fought to keep countries from being converted into communist ruling and from Hitler's rule.
All happened around the same time & once again WE stopped it.
Just as the coalition once again stops another dictator and evil ruler.

RE: D-Day, according to British schoolkids:

do you have your own words?
Hmmmmm now I won't get into that one: )

I see you found a nifty little gif that you wanted to share with the class.Thanks.

Kinda reminds me of "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" when Harrison Ford/Indiana shoots the towel head thats swinging a sword infront of him. Indiana simply pulls out his gun and blows him a way.
Wish problems were that simple.

The meaning behind it all

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you ...

RE: D-Day, according to British schoolkids:

"buncha mad dogs and Canadians."

- WW2 expression for the fierce fighting of the Allied soldiers on seeming suicide missions.

There is your little known fact in celebration of war day, Normy boy. At least you learnt sompin, and you didn't thunk it wuz me hoss.

For your essay question tell me what is meant by the WW2 expression "Kilroy ___ here"...and fill in the blank, ooh, play hangman, that inspired later Mad magazine publisher William H. Gaines?

Later, in JSK-WORLDONLINE Matthew McConaughey captured an Enigma, saving the Allies; meanwhile, Tom Cruise defended the British Isles from the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britian while Ben Affleck was laying the smackdown on the entire Japanese fleet. Once again, the Murkins had saved the day.

RE: D-Day, according to British schoolkids:

Tehehe. I know you Cunucks fought just like the rest of the countries did. Don't get U'r panties in an uproar dude.
Actually I never heard the expression you self proclaimed yourselves. More like Scared dogs because I heard differently about some of your toughguy troops. Sitting in the back while the other countries did all the fighting. Ofcourse that didn't mean all of you guys were like that, but I never heard any heroic stories about Captain Cuncuk saving the world.

Besides my masterpeice was mainly about the present day (which is just as important)
Hopefully you guys are proud of what you haven't done. Thanks .... thanks for nothing.
Your bright idea is not to help.

On the lighter side-
Not a big fan of Ben Aflick or any of the other cheeseballs you mentioned. But, it seems to me all you forigners eat it up just as much as an American. And pay while doing so.
And speaking of movies...
I know you must by now have the Micheal Moore lunch box to go with your matching "America is evil" shirts. Have you seen the film yet? Rumor has it America will finally release it. I find it funny that Moore is a multi-millionaire and still won't put his money where his mouth is. Like Mel Gibson(LOL)
But, atleast he shelled out his own money for something he believed in.
Moore's #1 priority is to make waves about his newest bad film. The only way to get people to notice it. Well and the pathetic title of it.
Its not hard to make a bad documentary its just hard to get them mainstream. Your boy is a sellout!
Moore's movie will be no better or realistic than the films you mentioned in your post.

I did hear the French loved it though and stood cheering when it was over.
I take it that part of the film was when the planes hit our buildings.
