Some facts about Presidential Funerals

Did you guys know that?...

U.S. presidents make their funeral plans before they leave White House.

Currently there are 4 former presidents alive; Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, George Bush and Bill Clinton. Three out of these four guys made their funeral plans before they left White House, only one refused to do that...guess who? I guessed it right away.

It's the taboo breaking president who brought some color to oval office with his personality, but I think he should be horse whipped for his bad taste for women-:)

Second question:

Among all the presidents who paid the most attention to his funeral plan?

The answer is ...Mr. Ronald Reagan.

He started working on his funeral plan in 1989. In the following years... he and his wife made lots of changes and additions numerous times. His funeral protocol is 300 pages. Among all the U.S. Presidents he is said to have been the most attached to symbols and protocols.

He wanted to be buried in California just as the Sun was setting, and wanted "Amazing Grace" to be played at the same time.

Some Presidents did not want a Formal Funeral, they prefered a simple family funeral... like Franklin Rosevelt whose funeral service was done in his house in N.Y.

As to the cost of Regan's funeral to tax payer...

The funeral expenses, transportations, personnel over time etc.is estimated over 1.5 million. This is not counting the loos of labor in the work force because of funeral. That is estimated to cost 66 million dollars to Washington D.C. alone.

Well, super countries have super presidents and they have super expenses.

Good thing we don't have Queens, Princes, Princesses, Dukes, Lords etc., I don't even know what purpose those people serve. Does anyone have a clue as to what a queen or duke does all day long?

RE: Some facts about Presidential Funerals

Yeah, so glad us common folk could give the filthy rich Ronald Reagan a big fancy bicoastal send off.

Does anyone want to lay down odds on just how long this poor new Iraqi President has to live, before he's assassinated, thus adding to the needless blood and violence we have wrought on the Iraqi people?

I give him about two weeks, although he MIGHT make it to the 6/30 deadline, if he's got a few angels on his side upstairs. How would you like to be in that group, huh? The poor guys set to take over this new government. These are the folks I really feel for..the US puppets whose lives aren't worth a plugged nickel and are walking around with big old targets on them! I saw the new Iraqi Prez pay his respects at the Capitol today. No doubt he was thinking, "I'm right behind ya, Ronnie!"

I'm so glad Bushie could be so lighthearted and seemingly "humanistic" at his little press conference today..cutting up and having fun, seemingly without a care in the world. I hope he enjoys it, because I don't think he will be smiling much through this long, hot bloody summer. The insurgents in Iraq are going to continue the killing all the way up to election time. You can thank George Dubya and his oil thirsty, war mongering buddies for that! Bush is all class too. While Kerry has respectfully taken the week off, Bush is using every opportunity (and the corpse of the late Ron Reagan) to score political points! The man's amazing and has NO SHAME! Of course, if I were as behind in the polls as he is right now..with the economy still shaky at best and the war still raging..I'd be getting a little desperate too.

Farenheit 9/11! I'm there next weekend. I'll try and post a review...

Rough: Why don't you run for office?

You seem to have all the answers, or questions about what is wrong with my country.

God, I've heard and listened to "whiners" my whole life, but for the life of me, I can't remember who is as much of a bitch as you. Oh, that's right...noone!!!

Are you really this miserable and lonely, do you hate; my/our country this much? Or do you just like being a bitch?

I'm sure you are an upstanding young man in your community. And that everyone gathers around you when you get on the soapbox and start speaking. If only everyone was as smart as you think you are, the war would be over, gas would be about a buck a gallon, and you might actually get laid.

Out of those three, I would think the war being over would be the beat bet.

Noone????

Learn how to spell, there Jake.

Well, IF I was Prez, there wouldn't have been a war to begin with....and I get laid plenty, by someone way hotter than Laura Bush or the slutty Bush daughters, I assure you!

Nighty night :)

RE: Some facts about Presidential Funerals

Sorry, punk, I don't use spell check on this board. And figure out how to use punctuation correctly. I've been an American citizen for 34 years now. I don't need you telling me how to spell. I fought for your rights to make asinine (is my spelling right on that?) statements on a public message board.

Taking cheap shots at Laura Bush, or the daughters and calling them sluts is about par for you.

Why aren't I surprised? You know them, right? So you read in your local rag that they were partying and, being the guy who knows all, or thinks he does, names them slutty.?,?,?

Too funny.

Yup, I'm sure you are getting serious love, Rough. You seem like a really popular ladies man...

Sorry, my english and spelling is not very good, but I believe that is what you Americans call, sarcasm.

RE: Some facts about Presidential Funerals

Fair enough about the funeral costs, Harry, but wait a while: Who is getting the money? The Reagan family? I don't think so! Working stiffs, military personnel, etc.
Actually, it's hard to believe that we're taking partisan shots over a funeral for godsakes, but there you are!
I was no fan of Carter, he being a terrible prez, but when he dies I will be saddened & remember his basic goodness and kindness and his work in helping the poor and so forth. To think that Clinton really went and asked that the funeral be 'bipartisan!' hehehe unreal...
Methinks the left protests WAY too much!!

RE: Some facts about Presidential Funerals

No Atf., I'm not being "partizan" at all. I just don't get saddened and mourn over by someone's death who lived to be 93. I don't think I'll be saddened by Carter's or Clinton's death either.

I wish my father could have had fraction of the quality of life they lived, then I wouldn't even have been saddened by my own father's death.

Don't forget we'll all die someday, what matters is the quality of time between your birth and death. I wish you the best of health my friend.

Jake

You clearly seem obsessed with my sex life. I think you've got a crush on me or something! You've certainly got a "butchy" name, there JAKE. You sound real tough!! You must be a cowboy or something....an "illiterate cowboy", sort of like Dubya.

So, you fought for my rights huh? Well okay. Yeah, I've been an American for 34 years too, born and bred here, and guess what...

I CAN SAY (or type) WHATEVER THE HELL I WANT TO.

This is supposed to be a democracy, right? As long as I don't threaten the man's life, I can say whatever the hell I want to say about our DUMB ASS PRESIDENT. I despise this prevalent notion by some simpleminded f uckwits that being critical of Bush is "un American". And, insofar as his lovely daughters....No, I didn't read about them in a rag...I saw pictures of them drunk with their dresses falling off them, in a very public NYC nightclub. So, let me correct that statement..."DRUNK SLUTS". I think they picked up the love of liquor from their pa.

I HATE WAR. If you've been lurking around here long enough you know that too. And you damn sure should know WHY. Can't remember? OK, here' a refresher, smart guy. My father died because of the last STUPID, F UCKING, POINTLESS WAR this country was involved in. So, AGAIN..I will say whatever the f uck I want to say about war. IS THAT ALRIGHT WITH YOU?? I have the right, more so than many, I assure you! I can also tell you that I LOVE this country. I just hate the s hit that's going on here, right now. It's why I'm so vehemently passionate. I think this country is on the fast track...in the WRONG direction!

Do people in my neck of the woods listen to me? Well, the smart ones do. But, I admitedly live in the Bible thumping South. Bush LOVES Jesus, so he's got the go ahead to declare illegal wars and do whatever the f uck he wants to do, in God's name. Most of the inbred idiots in my neck of the wood will say "good job, Dubya" and give him a rebel yell. But, people throughout the counry are slowly wising up...FINALLY! Bush's numbers are down and his war support is way down. People are finally realizing what I knew all along...since BEFORE the damn war started...that this was the worst foreign policy mistake we have made since Vietnam.

When I see "Farenheit 911" I'll post a special review, especially for you sweetums. Now, quit obsessing about my sex life, okay? Trust me, I'm not your type. Continue lurking but only post if you learn proper spelling and punctuation!

RE: Fads

Harry, I'm with you that we tend to go WAY overboard with our fads, our games, our leaders & our stars!
Also, I agree that it is the quality of ones life, not the quantity, though I'd like to have both (witch my father never had, btw).
I also wish you many years of health, along with leege, Dio and the others. Life is truly booring if you agree with everyone all the time. Life's too short for wars & doing bad things; making me a....DO GOODER! hehehe
Have a good week end.

RE: Some facts about Presidential Funerals

Well Harry for his 8 years in office and running this country as well as he did I think we can shell out a few bucks for him and allow some people time off paid or unpaid. How bad is that?

Why not give back to our own? We spend far more on NON American and petty things every day. This was one of our own presidents.

And all the stores and hotdog vendors in the area made money from the funeral persession!
Its not like America didn't make money that day. I still worked as I'm sure you did: )
Ofcourse I was a bit bumbed I couldn't mail out some things I needed to because the post office was closed.

It was like having a sunday on friday A THREE DAY weekend that wouldn't have happened if we didn't have a guy like Uncle Ronnie as pres.

I'm sure when Clinton goes it'll be far more extravigant!!! If you've made it as president of the USA I can't see having a small ceromony under a tree with 3 people.
So I understand the questionable comments but money isn't everything. Is it?

I think it was a proper thing to do. I only wish he requested having some mud wrestling if it happened to rain.

ROUGH WRITES-

I don't think he'll get in at all.If he does maybe a month.

Ofcourse you can look at it this way too. Saddam was just as hated but managed to stay alive. In todays world you need proper security and personel. A couple words .... Motercade, bombsniffing dogs, bullet proof vest .... TELEVISION!!! It seems the Iraqi's believe just about anything they see on tv. Saddam always made statements on tv and I can't see why this man can't either.

But, I disagree that we brought violence to the Iraqi people. They've seen pleanty of violence in their lives its about time they see some freedom. Thats how it is.

RE: Some facts about Presidential Funerals

Well, we were the ones who created this "situation" by invading. Sad to say, it's going to get a lot worse through the summer. I'm really afraid we ain't seen nothing yet!

Any WHY in the world don't we have some better security for these poor guys in the interim government?? Terrorists are just picking them off one by one. No one's even talking about this.

PS, about Clinton et al.....

Actually, the Reagan Funeral will be the most extravagant we'll probably see for quite some time...maybe another thirty tears. None of the other surviving Presidents are presumptive enough to have such a big State Funeral...not even Clinton, who was a better President than Reagan and had bigger popularity numbers, overall.

RE: RE: RE: Some facts about Presidential Funerals

Well, "Rough", if you think "Jake" is a butchy name, so be it. You make me laugh as you make fun of my spelling, and if that's all you have, go for it, kid. Sorry, I'm not gay, I've been married 40 years last February. But for Christs sake, check your spelling before you give me crap about mine, OK?

And please explain to me, how your leftist friend, who you are going to the movies with, is now a 'former marine'? No such thing, unless of course he was kicked out. Once a marine, always a marine.

Good luck to you, kid. I don't think you are a bad guy, just a bit of a bitch.

And to alphonso, I'm a Pacer fan, and we watched the game here at my house Tues night with about 10 other people, and not one was cheering for the Lakers. I'm happy for the city of Detroit, and you, my friend.

Jake
