Ray Charles "the Genius"

Well, the TV's are jammed with Reagan news: the coffin's in DC; it's in Simi Valley; it's in Santa Barbara. Should Ronnie's image be on the $10 bill, the dime; the 30 cent stamp?

But what about Ray Charles? One of the greatest performers of all time passed away yesterday with some mention on the news, but I note, none here. Here was a man whose music did more to unite people than any of our current political "leaders" have done in the past 30 years. He bridged gaps between people and like few pop artists enjoyed tremendous success through 5 decades - a true icon. Someone who overcame blindness, racism (when the term really meant something), the loss of both parents at age 15 and endured on his talent and drive alone.

He has given me many hours of musical pleasure and I'll keep my flags at half mast for him.

Actually™

I hate to disagree with you, Bear, but I did reference Ray's passing yesterday. Under the thread "Ronald Reagan Dies" on page 3, fourth post from the bottom. I even stated he was worthy of a flag at half-mast.

But other than that, I agree with what you posted.

RE: Ray Charles "the Genius"

The diametric opposite of Reagan`s existence. I never thought of the irony until I read your post. History in perspective.....I`ll have to read "I Claudius" again now.

RE: Ray Charles "the Genius"

Agree 100% Bear.
Was my honor to have met Stevie Wonder as a teen. Is my great loss never to have met the great Ray Charles. I loved his music and -- next to Teddy Pendergass or Curtis Mayfield and anything Motown -- I could listen all day to the man.

RE: all War all the time...

...just a suggestion for you Murkins after watching TV the Memorial Weekend, (all war all the time) but why don't you dedicate a cable channel to WAR? The War Channel?

Ray: Now, THAT really sucks, cause I really liked Ray. I even know one of his tunes on the Piano - 'What'd I Say'. Any musician or artist AUTOMATICALLY contributes more to humanity than any parasitic politician - the gift of music. They should be having a million dollar State funeral for Ray, not that old sleazeball Reagan.

The War Channel? An idea whose time has truly come. The armchair chickenhawks, who never saw battle, would NEVER leave their house again. Hmmm, so that IS a good idea! With the quarantee of perpetual warfare from now on, a War Channel would be huge! Gung ho goofball Ollie North should head that one up, if they could pry him away from the war room at Fox News.

I agree about Ray Charles...he will be missed. One of the true greats and there are so few left!

RE: Ray Charles "the Penius"

I bet he didn't even see it coming!!!!!

Yeah, sucks about ole Ray. He too was a great actor and in a better movie than any Reagan was in. THE BLUES BROTHERS !!!

But, like anything else he was a musician from an earlier era and black. If he were white and in a teen band of today you would have heard more about it. They would have had a show following "Murkin Idol" in his honor. Sadly while even flipping past BET (black entertainment tele) I didn't see anything on there about him.

He doesn't need the media and mainstream to celebrate his demise and wouldn't want it I'm sure.

RE: Ray Charles "the Genius"

He was in "Blues Brothers", wasn't he?

Man, Ray was so cool. He just had that "genuine" quality that you definitely do NOT see in the music industry these days. A true TALENT!

RE: Ray Charles "the Genius"

I was about to ask some of you here about a song made famous by Ray but the rendition I loved was by Billy Eckstein. The song was called "Givin' my love to you" or something. God, what a magnificent tune.
Went like this:
"I've been many places,
met a lot of people...
(damn, forgot the lyrics...ahem)
...and I'm just singin'
this song for you."
If you heard Ray Charles version, great. Just do yourself a favor and -- if ya wanna chick to go wild -- toss out the Barry Manilow shi-t and toss on a Barry White CD followed by Billy Eckstein. If you can't get some trim then, forget it, cuz you must be one UGLY Motherfukker.
Belee dat.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

But the soft crooning of Barry Manilow has worked for Field Marshall Dio these past thirty years!

After all Fonz, he DOES write the songs that make the whole world sing! Slamming Barry is risky business in this neck of the woods, my friend....do so at your own risk!

RE: Barry Man-a-low

I can only imagine the day Barry buys the old farm. There will be a huge persession on Dio's street followed by boring ass show tunes and elevator music blasting through out the compound!!!

Sure Reagan's funeral and services ranged in the millions, but together we can all pitch in and give a hardy sendoff to Barry.

We'll make due with what we have. I'll play guitar (heavy and distorted) and I'm sure Wiseguy will join in. Our musicial services are just 9 bucks a day!
Rough can bring the flowers and decorate. That will total all of 15 bucks.
Fonz will be the guest speaker and as long as theres booze there I'm sure he'll do it for nothing.
Harry's been posting a lot of pics latley. He can be in charge of backdrops and such.

I dunno, Leege is the master at clips and stuff. Although we won't have access to world wide tv he can instead tape the whole shananagan and place it on his free hosting
space.
Ofcourse there will be no zooming in or panning. Strictly one camera!!! Although I'm sure the file size will be atleast 10-20 mb's for 20 seconds of sadness :(

Ok ... I didn't mention anyone else because you guys will be in the crowd pretending to be sad.

Dio how is Aunty at baking cookies? I'm not too big on the bread.
