Russia knew but chose oil over our well being

This goes to show that Russia knew about an attack Saddam's regime was getting together.
Although knowing this he still didn't want us to go in and overthrow Saddam or change the future of Iraq? Gee why not Vladimir?
This man's mind is all on the money. Just as the other countries that did NOTHING and still do NOTHING!

By BAGILA BUKHARBAYEVA, AP

ASTANA, Kazakhstan (AP) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday his government warned Washington that Saddam Hussein's regime was preparing attacks in the United States and its interests abroad - an assertion that appears to bolster President Bush's contention that Iraq was a threat.

Putin emphasized that the intelligence didn't cause Russia to waver from its firm opposition to the U.S.-led war last year, but his statement was the second this month in which he has offered at least some support for Bush on Iraq.

"After Sept. 11, 2001, and before the start of the military operation in Iraq, the Russian special services ... received information that officials from Saddam's regime were preparing terrorist attacks in the United States and outside it against the U.S. military and other interests," Putin said.

"Despite that information ... Russia's position on Iraq remains unchanged," he said in the Kazakh capital, Astana, after regional economic and security summits. He said Russia didn't have any information that Saddam's regime had actually been behind any terrorist acts.

"It's one thing to have information that Saddam's regime is preparing terrorist attacks, (but) we didn't have information that it was involved in any known terrorist attacks," he said.

Putin didn't elaborate on any details of the alleged plots or mention whether they were tied to al-Qaida. He said Bush had personally thanked one of the leaders of Russia's intelligence agencies for the information but that he couldn't comment on how critical it was in the U.S. decision to invade Iraq.

In Washington, a U.S. official said Putin's information did not add to what the United States already knew about Saddam's intentions.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Putin's tip didn't give a time or place for a possible attack.

Bush alleged Thursday that Saddam had "numerous contacts" with al-Qaida and said Iraqi agents had met with the terror network's leader, Osama bin Laden, in Sudan.

Saddam "was a threat because he had terrorist connections - not only al-Qaida connections, but other connections to terrorist organizations," Bush said.

However, a commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks reported this week that while there were contacts between al-Qaida and Iraq, they did not appear to have produced "a collaborative relationship."

Also Thursday, a top Russian diplomat called for international inspectors to resolve conclusively the question of whether Iraq had any weapons of mass destruction.

"This problem must be resolved ... because to a great extent it became the pretext for the start of the war against Iraq," the Interfax news agency quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Fedotov as saying. He said such a finding would allow the U.N. Security Council to "finally close the dossier on Iraqi weapons."

In the wake of the invasion of Iraq, Putin sharply rebuked the United States for going to war despite opposition within the U.N. Security Council and said the threat posed to international security by the war was greater than that posed by Saddam.

But Putin's relationship with Bush is warm by the accounts of both leaders, and last week he said he has no patience for those who criticize Bush on Iraq.

"I don't pay attention to such publications," Putin said of media criticism of Bush at the end of the Group of Eight summit in the United States, according to the ITAR-Tass news agency.

Putin said opponents who criticize Bush on Iraq "don't have any kind of moral right. ... They conducted exactly the same kind of policy in Yugoslavia."

Russia vehemently opposed the NATO bombing attacks on Yugoslavia in 1999, which the United States pushed for under President Clinton.

And yet Putin went against going to war with Iraq. Also placed his negative veiws about the United States in regards to the country of Iraq and yet he knew this country and leader had ties to terrorists.

Talk about ass kissing and shacking up with the enemy of the United States.
This man Putin should be looked into for picking oil over the safty of people in the world abroad. Maily United States citizens.

Its becoming clearer now and soon all will find out the truth about other nations. Saddam was the face of Iraq and did allow terrorists to run and practice freely in his country. Noone can say he didn't.

RE: Russia knew but chose oil over our well being

Yeah, Putin's scum but we already knew that. Maybe the Russians will finally vote him out before all their democratic reforms are squelched.

Insofar as Saddam, I'm sticking with the 9/11 Commission....no collaborative efforts between Saddam's regime and al Queda.

Bottom line..What did Saddam Hussein have to do with 9/11? Answer: Absolotely nothing, despite Bush desperately grasping at straws, trying to connect dots to justify an invasion of Iraq. Despite some report, that's vague at best, of what Saddam might have been planning to do someday, he had nothing to do with the attacks on America.

RE: Russia knew but chose oil over our well being

The 9/11 commision doesn't and hasn't questioned other countries or countrymen.
Only the United States and its people at this point. Our government knew these people knew, but couldn't say "they knew" especially when they don't speak up for months or years after the fact and dont work with us on this. Also, we can't bring them into the light although hints were dropped about other countries knowing things before and during all the questioning. Well now we know it to be true. What else do you need?
How many more will suddenly say "Oh yeah by the way ...."

When ever you get tired of pointing the finger at your own take a look around. These countries now have alot more to lose than just integrity. They thought they could lose a good commonity of oil. And they place the whole blame of the war on us wanting the oil?
Infact, it ****es me off that Russia knew this but still didn't offer anything besides ridicule and insults. Doesn't this bother you?

I'd really like to know who's really the ones who DONT ADMIT THEY ARE WRONG. Its not us.

Just as the select few of us said months ago - These countries kept their mouths shut and turned their backs on the United States at a much needed time. Even when they knew **** like this. And your all still against GW and your own country simply because you were in the beginning of it all?

Lots of things SOME of us stated are beginning to show its ugly head. You need to look past the PAST. I won't even go on and ramble because theres really no need to. I'm basically pointing out something I KNEW and now you all know it.

RE: Russia knew but chose oil over our well being

Knew what?
What are you talking about?
Everyone knew Saddman hada weapons program in the 80's, we knew because RON REAGAN sold him some of the chemical stuff during the Iraq war with Iran. Besides, aLL these stupid exclusionary countries in the world are notorious about sharing 'Intelligence' with their enemies, every other country.

Mossad agents WATCHED the towers go down on 911 - why didn't they speak up?

Pipe down, braniac.

And also....Negotiating (appeasement) does not mean giving in, it means buying time to set the trap. For example, for Bush to say "we don't negotiate" he takes a valuable tool off the table for finding the kidnapped indivudual.

Life is not a f-ing action movie, arseshat.

RE: Russia knew but chose oil over our well being

Leege your not even talking about what I posted. Trying to skip the importance of realism?
Ofcourse EVERYONE knows Iraq has weapons of all types. WMD's aswell!!! All countries know that because countries around them helped them with their programs. And yes we helped them obtain some in the 80's for much different reasons than what they were used for.

Now without allowing you to by-pass the truth ... Russia had details and information about Iraq attacking the United States. He plainly stated it on television.

So those who say Iraq had nothing against the US can kiss my ass. You can't because you might like it too much.

Its not something made up or said from our government its from another country. The same country that for whatever reason still felt Iraq wasn't a threat to us, yet said they were planning an attack. The same country that was against us going in after they originally said you have every right to do so and backed us on it.

Who cares what France, Russia, Germany, Canada and other moronic countries say. They are not us and should either be truthful during a time of need or just say we don't need you as allies. As it is its quite obvious they sided with the evil regime of Saddam.

The good thing is we do what we want. Those other countries including your vacation land shouldn't have say in this. We simply don't care what you say and I for one don't either.

RE: 4 more dead soldiers today

"We do whatever we want"

Yes, I know.
Arrest whoever you want under your bogus 'Patriot Act'. No trial, no nuthin'....just 'suspicion' of evildoing is apparently sufficient when the ruling class senses a need to protect itself from the rabble. Lock them in a dog cage for as long as you want.

Torture whoever you want.

Murder any women and children you want.
(call it 'collateral' as rationalization)
Ignore the peacenik hippies, buncha pinko commie potheads.

Spend a ga-gillion tax dollars on high-tech military hardware to combat....uh, 12 dead guys with box cutters.

Is that some of the stuff you want us to 'help' you with? Cause we aren't gonna do it...nope, no way. We do not torture human beings for any reason, there are many humane chemical methods of information extraction, we do not invade other countries for no reason. You're on your own with this one, and don't look to the Brits to stick with you much longer on this misadventure either.

So, how are things going in the Empire of Goodness and Light anyway?
Not so good, it seems.

I'd tell you to go fark yourselves, but I see you're already doing it. (your real friends are the ones who don't want to see you fall for this BushCo warmongering nonsense and mess up a perfectly excellent country, the US of A)

The sad truth about Bush

It's not that he's inherently evil or even that overtly corrupt. No, in his own head, Bushie really DOES think that he's going to save the world. Bush & Associates are the epitome of moral narcissism, it's as simple as that and, unfortunately, other powerful people throughout history have fallen into that same pious trap. Here's a guy who shamelessly uses God to justify everything he does, from restrictions on stem cell research to carpet bombings. Time for some regime change in the US of A, before the last of our allies jumps ship on this campaign of tiddying up the planet.

We have the most advanced military arsenal in human history, using it in a death match with barbarians and thugs who chop off peoples' heads. Could anyone have written a more surreal world than the one we now find ourselves in? When are we going to realize that we are fighting this war the wrong way? It will ONLY bring more death and destruction if we continue so blindly down this path...in a perpetual global war with no peace treaties, against an enemy who grows exponentially every day.

I hate to say it but the only reason we are allies with half these countries is because we spilt our own blood for them in the past.
Are they really all our great freinds?
The immediatness of their decisions were disrespectful to the USA. Most all of them during the UN meetings. Most determined how to vote simply because Saddam and Iraq were selling them things they really needed. Business before anything else.

They are judging our leader and trying to take our safty to risk. For example : If a government or country leader who's suppose to be our allie or friend and yet doesn't back us for when we want to seak justice or defend ourselves I don't care. All these countries know Saddam was a threat and turned their greedy eyes from him and the problem for years.

Which allies are you really so concerned about losing? I say **** them all if they don't like it. Why should they get into it anyways? Most didn't during war time and won't now because they downed the whole thing so much to lend a hand would make them all sound like liars now.
