Now, if she had wrestled that milquetoast Kerrigan back when they were both in top figure skating shape, I would be interested. But this? Yawn. I thought she had some pro wrestling offers from Japan or something? I bet she turned them down to box instead because she thinks she's an athlete and pro rasklin is degrading. Heheh. There she could have really capitalized on her bad girl image and made a bundle -- all without having to take the risk of, and fail at real athletic competition. She backed out of a fight here in Oakland about 3 months ago, using some bogus story about her security as the excuse. The promoter was furious. Frankly, I'm surprised at her lousey boxing skills. A world class figure skater has great coordination, extraordinary ability to focus, tremendous self-discipline and the wearwithall to endure a spartan-like training schedule. All of those characteristics should transfer over to boxing. For some reason, it hasn't with her. I guess there's something about getting hit. LOL |

It's pretty hard to make the transition to another sport, especially one like boxing that develops a very specific set of muscle memory from a very early age. Plus, it's even harder at Tonyas age, of whatever, 30 something plus. With her powerful legs and tremendous flexibility I would think that she'd make an easier transition into something like kickboxing or even....dare I say it? Yes, RASKLIN IS OKAY FOR WIMMIN GALDANGIT! When will they learn? C'mon, she's shaped like a pear and has little whispy arms that have only been used to do little more than accessorize an elaborate dance routine on ice. Not throw a punch properly, that takes practice, and to be world class you have to start when you're like, 2 years old. Silly wimmin. Why are they all so afraid of a little rasklin? I bet the Japs offerred her a ton of cash, which she turned down to get her face pulped for 10 grand. Must be trailer trash economics? |

Perhaps the greatest athlete of any sport to ever walk the face of the earth, couldn't play pro baseball, and certainly couldn't make it at pro golf. He's pretty good apparently, but I guess the club pros have a lot of fun cleaning him out because he likes to gamble as well, and doesn't mind losing. Probably cause he can afford it. Kareem Abdul Jabbar. See above. Tried boxing, got clobbered, gave that up real quick for writing. Good thinkin, Kareem. I saw him on the Daily Show pimping for a book he wrote and was surprised how intelligent and well spoken he is. Usually those basketball guys are real lunkheads. Quite a few pro football players have thought they were tough guys and tried boxing, they never seem to last very long - the names escape me right now. Hey, can you imagine the money Tonya could've made working that trailer trash image rasslin for the WWE? (bad guy everyone loves to hate) Oh man, I would manage that to superstardom. I think he stole the show in "Airplane 2". Jorden. Actually thats the best example when you talk about pros trying to make the cross over from sport to sport. And fail. Remember Mark Gastinolf(sp) the dude from the New York Jets. You forigners may not know of him, but he was a monster on the football feild and tried to make it into pro boxing. Ended up getting KO's by some chump who was a journeyman in the sport. Then come to find out a few of his fights were setups. Last I heard Mark was in jail and had a drug problem. He may be out now? Tonya had me fooled until her 1st pro bout. I mean come on when she fought Paula Jones ofcourse she outweighed and out bitched her that evening, but in reality was just hype. With her sketchy past and kinda of tough look you'd think with a little training she COULDA BEEN A CONTENDA! But if anything its a huge mind game as well as plain skill and toughness. She had none that could help her in boxing. Atleast with Tonya and with so many hating her you can say "I wish someone would knock the crap outta her" And it happens:) Although she would make good for a villian on the WWE how long do you really think it would take until people got sick of her. Possibly Vinnie just said shes not worth the trouble. But, then again the WWE/WWF has a long history of bringing people in and then tossing them out from week to week. JSK |

Look at the number of ex-NFL QB's and ex-major league baseball players who are scratch golfers. Could they play on the tour, now? No. But had they started playing earlier, yes. I recall that John Brodie won several senior golf events long after his NFL ended. All of the kids that I've coached who have played in the NFL or in MLB were great performers in other sports in high school, and some played two sports in college. However they had to make a choice at some point and go that way -- there are only a few Bo Jacksons and Deion Sanderses out there. And although each sport requires different and specific skills (Legion is quite right on this), there are those who can just pick things up and operate at a high level from day one. Guys like Gastineau who were overrated, steroid popping, egomaniacs happened to play a position where limited athletic ability was required. Consequently, one can only imagine him making a fool out of himself in other athletic pursuits. Even a great player like Merlin Olsen isn't what you'd consider to be a great athlete. Ever see him try to dance? My God!!! But these guys are the exception; most pro athletes are great athletes period - capable of excellence in other athletic venues. |

Sure a pro football star, hockey star even rockstar(alice cooper) can get into the game of golf and do well. Its a retired man's sport basically. Most of these people golf every week if not every other day. Its much more easier to get GOOD in a game such as that. You'd never see a football star take a day off to play baseball on a weekly basis. Golf you would and in time its a gimme, but still even then they don't make it to that certain level. Pros have all the best around. In high school you get the best in the area. Big difference. JSK |
