OLYMPICS...When do the girls start wrestling?

I haven't caught much of the Olympic Games from Athens so far. I'm quite curious to see how the women's freestyle wrestling turns out. I really hope the young ladies don't look like bulked up roid monsters. If only they would be lithe and lean like some of those little gymnasts and swimmers! But I know that's just too much to ask for, isn't it?

I'm surprised by the skimpy little two piece outfits the women's volleyball teams are wearing. That American pair (the blonde and brunette whose names escape me) are a sexy little twosome, aren't they? They are so very much in tune with one another. I loved it when they scored and the blonde would give her partner that occassional little pat on the thigh! I'd have no problem with watching those two bronzed, fit beauties do a little wrestling.

Why do the women swimmers have those sheer body suit things? Its sort of surprising that the girls' volleyball teams are showing A LOT more flesh than the swimmers.

I saw the volleyball stuff (Misty May and Kerry Walsh; they did a funny commercial for the Superbowl) and I was psyched by the attire. I couldn't believe how much butt cheek was showing. ONe of those fine ladies is 6'2" and they have an historic winning streak going. The Olympics should have ladies wrestling in that garb, rather than the boots and singlets. Ratings would go through the roof.

Those two are truly gorgeous and look great together. I guess they are wearing the skimpy attire because it is "beach volleyball". But I still can't get over how completely covered the swimmers are, by contrast. Yeah, get a couple of girls like that wrestling in two piece sportswear like that and you would have a winner! Too much to ask for again, isn't it? Give them another 1,000 years and maybe they will have international catfight competitions. I can see it now...the 3004 Summer Olympics from Mars.

RE: OLYMPICS...When do the girls start wrestling?

Not to worry Rough, even the male amateur wrestlers don't look like bulked up roid monsters, remember these guys (and women) have to make weight, so they're very cut.

My real concern regarding the appearance of women wrestlers is that they'll take on male-like characteristics, i.e. short cropped hair, flat butts, gaunt arms and legs. Think of women long distance runners, do they do anything for you???

I realize that my interest in women's wrestling is far different than it is for someone who is really into it (like the insufferable Freestyle Fan), but that't just the way it is for me.

I tend to agree with Legion, women's sports are entertaining for women; but for me they're little more than a curiosit. Unless, of course, the women are nekkid.

RE: OLYMPICS...When do the girls start wrestling?

I'm getting ready to watch live coverage of several events from Olympia. Pretty amazing, since it's the first Olymoic events held there since antiquity, almost 3,000 years ago! Olympia was buried for 1,300 years after an earthquake and has only been excavated in the last 130 years.

It's cool to watch because I visited Greece four years ago and went to Olympia, standing on the very spot where the first games were played. Even though I've never been a huge sports fan, it was moving to be there and you couldn't help but feel emotional about it. I stood in the stadium where they are getting ready to play a few events. They are even using some of the original starting markers, although they are having to reconfigure the shotput (because modern players would send it flying right out of the stadium). The audience in attendance will be standing, just like in ancient times. Women, who weren't even allowed to compete in the original games, will actually have the first event there today! Unfortuantely, unlike the original games, no nudity though!

Tribal nationalism bores me.

I say let em juice up - jam those roids, take nothing but PCP, cocaine and whiskey before competition, then throw em in a big oil pit and let em rassle their way out. It's the SPECTACLE that matters! and I am Caligula!

"Sports" are taken far too seriously in our demented society, as if it really matters who wins what and when and where. Who cares? Not me. I wanna see some RASSLIN.

Hey Legion, they actually do that. It's called an Oakland Raiders' home game.

RE: OLYMPICS...When do the girls start wrestling?

Actually the original games were a lot closer to that Leege. It was sort of a combination sporting event, outdoor rock concert, and church social! The fighting events were more like the Ultimate Fighting events of today, with the boxers sometimes pummeling one another until they were unrecognizable and the wrestlers allowed (and encouraged) to choke one another! There were big black flies everywhere because of the unsanitary conditions of having thousands of people together like that.

Ahhh yes, those were the days! Just a time for the warring city states to get together, recreate and beat the beejeezus out of one another.

RE: OLYMPICS...When do the girls start wrestling?

I guess they already did but never showed it.
And I disagree with Bear in saying that women's sports are normally for women to watch. Just look at tennis for instance and you'll see that zillions of guys just love that chick Anna Cornacoba(sp)
Women's volleyball got way more coverage here in the states than even the men. Its a no brainer that the (lack) attire helped a lot and suprisenly not many complained too much. I believe its because all the teams/countries dressed down like beach hoes:)

What were we talking about again?
Oh yeah women's olympic wrestling .... never heard of it.
