Posted By: Aurora Posted On: Jun 8, 2004 Views: 567 | RE: cool talents It is partly privately funded, partly funded by the govt. The argument is, we are saving money in the long run, since the drug cocktail necessary for dealing with these ailments would cost us more. Either way the govt pays, as we have public health care. |
Posted By: Sure Posted On: Jun 8, 2004 Views: 564 | RE: cool talents Still the government money that pays for that essentially comes from the people, but anyways the program does sound like a good one. |
Posted By: Dragonmaster Posted On: Jun 9, 2004 Views: 554 | RE: cool talents How about coming up with a drug-substitute. Drug for a drug. Just make the substitute have the same effects but not the addiction. Ween people off of the real stuff by giving them the substitute. |
Posted By: Aurora Posted On: Jun 9, 2004 Views: 553 | RE: cool talents There is a "fake Heroin" it's called Methadone. We also have Methadone clinics. I understand it's not as good as the real stuff though.. worse side effects or some such.. I don't know.. and I'm too tired to look it up |
Posted By: ChroMolly Posted On: Jun 9, 2004 Views: 552 | RE: cool talents Methadone is both addictive and makes you quite high. It's used as a heroin substitute because it's properly dosed in pill form, lasts longer than mainlined heroin (allowing the once a day maintenance programs) and allows an addict to live a life that's somewhat less dangerous and degenerate than that of a full blown, active junkie. |
Posted By: Sure Posted On: Jun 9, 2004 Views: 547 | RE: cool talents If it does carry similar effects as heroin would not that mean it would be dangerous to the lives of those around these people? Or is it just produce a like chemical in balance in the body? |
Posted By: BakaKage Posted On: Jun 9, 2004 Views: 542 | RE: cool talents Didn't think it was that hard to follow. Public health care means that if those junkies got a disease from sharing needles the goverment would have to pay to help them medically. It can't be stopped...granted...but having clinics for the use of it condones the use. So it is kind of the "pay for the HIV infected people, or pay for their drug supplies so we wont have the HIV" It would be an interesting survey to see what percent of heroin addicts are productive members of society. Im sure there are quite a few that are, but do they outweigh the freeloader junky style? |
