Video Request...

I would like to make a video request.

- This applies to anyone and everyone who would
like to try.

- You must ahere to all of the below mentioned
rules.

- 1. You must balance two identical straws on
a pen no more than 2.5" apart.

- 2. You must, in the video, build the
pen-balance and show the straw being
balanced.

- 3. You must, in the same contiguous video,
show only one straw moving while the other
remains perfectly still.

- 4. While this is happening, you must have your
head a minimum of three feet from the whole
apparatus. Your nose must also be pointing
away from it, and your mouth closed.

- 5. You also must have your hands no closer
than 5 inches, and you cannot move them
at all.

- 6. To prove that the above is actually being
followed, the video must show both hands
and your whole face.

To hard? Imagine what I must've had to do to fake my videos... *sarcasm*

Granted, anticipating what you might say, here's my early rebuttal:

I *know* my video doesn't show my face or me actually constructing the mechanism. My whole point above is to illustrate to the hard-headed that it would be impossible to fake my video, given those rules. Knowing this, and the fact that I actually ahered to there rules, although not shown, reassures me that this video is indeed genuine.

The flipside to this is, if you can make the video above, it would totally and without a doubt show that small teeny wind current can move a straw and thereby mimick true TK. My argument is that in a room that lacks any dynamic elements, wind cannot simply account for the movements of the straws in my video.

For an easier assignment, try faking my above video using the exact same view as presented. It still is near impossible.

RE: Video Request...

Nice vid Nick. I'd like to hear Keith's view on it, but he seems pretty quiet lately.

Let's try take this from different angles:

[Fellow TKer]
Nice ;)
I'm always appreciative of an attempt to test and experiment with it.

I find it fairly hard to argue against, sort of calling you a fraud, which seems like a retort for the desperate :D

Good job. I haven't practiced in quite some time, but that video inspires me to try the same.

[Devil's Advocate]
Like you said, you didn't keep to your own rules - you didn't display face, didn't display setup, and that looks more than 2.5cm.

And while it is unlikely that air movement will have caused selective movement like that, it's not entirely impossible.
There also seems to be a bit of static on you in the beginning of the video.

It's more likely that you faked the whole thing with an invisible thread ;)

Can you achieve this consistently? What sort of accuracy do you get?
If this works 1 out of 1000 attempts, it is by no means all that impressive, but rather a freak.

If it's consistent - have you considered Randi's challenge?

[Constructive Crit]
Putting a few pinwheels around it would've been even more interesting ;)

A extra measure I'd use in your rules is to cover your mouth and nose with a thick cloth.
And turn your head downwards to prevent the air from escaping out the bottom in a direction that could affect the test.

And of course, show your face, and the whole set up, etc etc. If you don't like showing your face, you can blur your face a little, or use a mask... or something :P

What's funny in watching a vid like this - it doesn't look like the person is actually doing anything.
Which is why a lot of skeptics laugh at it out of hand as 'you just waited for it to move and claimed victory'.

Anyway, I know there's more to it than sitting and waiting, having done TK myself.

Good luck practicing and experimenting ;)
You're motivating me to try make time again for TK.
If you can do this consistently, I suggest getting it tested :D

Yes, my thoughts exactly. :)

Well, I meant 2.5 inches. Here in America we use the old-fashioned english units of measurement. ;)

>It's more likely that you faked the whole thing

Haha, the most common argument, and the most unlikely. Occam's razor. ;) Not only would it be difficult doing it without any free hands, it would be near impossible.

It is consistent, and I have considered his challenge. However, I would still like to practice more to get it more 'honed in.'

I have done that in this vid, although of course you can't see it. Darn... :D

>If you can do this consistently, I suggest
>getting it tested :D

I know. I plan to. :)

RE: Video Request...

I have indeed just reproduced it three times in a row in my office just now. I even took the pink one off and performed TK on the green straw that didn't move at first. :)

Don't have my camera with me at work today, but I will bring tomorrow, definitely.

Haha dude, you get way too much time at work ... do you have a job opening for me? :D

RE: Video Request...

Unfortunately this is the only job that is remotely like that. My job is so unique that I have an exclusive three-room office to myself, all to myself. I make signs... hahaha...

RE: Video Request...

Wow, great vid, have to practice and get that myself.

Seriously, where's Keith? Actually, where's the whole board? The last post was like 6 days ago.

RE: Video Request...

Heh, thanks... it took me a couple weeks to get to that level, so just keep practicing. :)

And I think Keith is in hiding. He seems to not want to answer the tough questions. Or maybe, like I suggested, he is holed up trying to replicate my video. If he is, he probably will never come back... lol

RE: Video Request...

Nick,
I have not "been hiding".
Things have happened in my life that meant that the internet took a back seat.
I am back now.
I could easily duplicate your video, no problem at all. I could even add psi wheels all around the straws as well. I could move any single psi wheel or either one of the straws without any other object moving.

It is so simple to do I can't even be bothered to go to the trouble. Anyone could fake it in a matter of minutes, it only requires a little dab of Blue Tack here and there.
Not worth the bother of doing it and posting it up.

You honestly expect anyone to be convinced by your silly little video clip?

Get real, it's just a video, same as my Silly Stuff videos.

RE: Video Request...

Yep, it's not decent evidence.
But it's investigation at least.

Other than just self-investigation, it's only helpful if its replicable in a scientifically controlled environment by someone who knows what they're doing scientifically (eg. a magician or physics PhD)

Work your way there and eg win Randi's mil, and you're my best buddy ;)
Someone needs to do it :P

Of course, it would requrie some sort of trickery on your part to duplicate. Fine enough. My only point was that you would have to employ some sort of trickery in setting it up. If you abided by my rules in the first post, you would have to show the assembly of the apparatus in the video. Since the Blue Tack application would obviously be shown then, you would fail to meet the requirements.

You mean just like your video failed to meet your own requirements.
Or have I missed something?

RE: Video Request...

Keith, he SAID that he didn't show the setup and stuff. Perhaps he can make another vid? Also, let's see your version of it.

RE: Video Request...

Perhaps you could also have several cameras, each from a different angle, and put them all up for download.

RE: Video Request...

I have a vid request: how about a vid where you fly a paper airplane around, guiding it around your office? And still maintain CONTROL of it. That would be something interesting for Keith to fake...
