RE: The results.....

So if I put up a poll asking if Father Christmas is real and put the poll in a site that attracts lots of kiddies and got a big yes vote would that prove that Father Christmas is real?
Try thinking about it for a minute before making any further silly comments about internet polls.
I find stupidity irksome.

RE: The results.....

So why put up the poll if you're going to be hypocritical about it after you realize not many people agree with you?

Err, how can I word this, I think maybe you should look up what hypocritical means.

RE: The results.....

HAHAHAHA

He uses that word a lot, he calls anyone that proves him wrong a "hypocrite".

Well, he still doesn't know the meaning of the word but at least he's spelling it correctly now.

RE: The results.....

Well, that's something I suppose, small though it is.
It does amuse me though that they both seem to think that this poll accuratly reflects the views of a typical cross section of the community at large.
Have they no idea how professional polls are taken and the care that has to be taken to ensure they get a fair and typical representative sample of society?
Obviously not. They are clearly talking about something of which they are almost totally ignorant.
You can't have a sensible discussion with people like that.
Not possible.

RE: The results.....

Let's explain it with an example then...

There's a website called 'hellopeter.com', which deals with compliments and complaints regarding South African companies.

However if you have a look at the posts for a wonderful company who is always willing to help, you'll find that they are lucky to have more than 50% of responses in compliments.
However most of them have less than 5%.

Why? Because nobody goes to the site unless they're thinking emotionally about the company. Anger is pretty powerful.

Same thing of this site ;)

You either come here because it angers you that the opinion exists, or because you find it all amusing.
That's not representative of the people in your neighbourhood, for example. Most wouldn't care, or consider the subject quite silly.

I have no idea why I tried to explain... must be bored today :/

RE: The results.....

Uh, I should have said 'most of us come here' for that reason. Not all of us are angry or amused :P

RE: The results.....

Placebo,
Thank you for your practicle example, it demonstrates very well why internet polls, in the main, are not good indicators because by their very nature they create a bias.
I also appreciate that not all TK supports are either angry or amused by sites like mine, some - like yourself - have a genuine belief in TK or a genuine interest.
It is unfortunate though that it does appear to be the case here that a good percentage of comments in support of TK are posted by school kids who for one reason or another tend to generate a very poor image of supporters in general.

RE: The results.....

why do you call people that believe in psionics "kids?" is that supposed to be an insult, or does it make you feel more mature? to be honest, most psions on telekinetic forums aren't kids, and some in fact are physics majors...funny how physic majors are ignorant kids that believe in psionics. i don't want to sound rude or anything, it's just that in the 20 minutes of reading this site, i'm slowly ascending to more of a ****ed off stage. i respect your opinions and beliefs about tk/pk, but i don't respect your flat out close mindedness and quickness to insult. it seems that whenever someone makes a valid arguement, you go on and call them a kid, or say they are ignorant. is this aggression fueled by fear? the fear of being wrong? have you ever tried telekinesis yourself? even the psi-wheel (which you already "disproved" on the mainpage.) well i ask you, if air currents are truely moving it, why is it that i (and others) can move the psi-wheel both directions at will? i guess i have a tornadic air current in my room that doesn't have windows...i'm not trying to sway your mind, i'm just trying to get you to open up to the possibilities. yes, some of your arguements hold true, but many people have disproved these arguements. (again, nina kulagina. although you may be skeptic, there are logs and videos of her performing tk in controlled situations. including stopping a frogs heart beat. this is truely amazing especially since frogs have a "natural pacemaker" that keeps their hearts beating, even after death.) you just have to look. even better, prove it to yourself. i posted in the "oops" topic if you would like to read it. i go on talking about how you should practice yourself, timeframes, amongst other things. just because you don't believe it's real, doesn't mean it isn't.

Nightshade,
I will not waste my time on answering you, you are way too ignorant.

RE: The results.....

you call me ignorant, but you still turn to insults when backed into a corner. we see who the ignorant one is. at least do what i asked, and try for yourself. what's the worst that can happen? you succeed in TK and prove yourself wrong so nazi's ridding dinosaurs take over the world? doubtful, you don't have to tell anyone you even tried.

RE: The results.....

Nightshade,
If you took the trouble to read my TK page then you will see that I did set out to perform TK, and at one point was almost convinced I was doing TK!
However, futher tests showed that it wasn't TK.
I am getting sick and tired of people telling me to open my mind, try doing it, do some study, etc etc etc, when I have already done it.
My reply is this. Those that say that to me are the worst culprits, they have not even read my site to discover I have already done what that suggest!
I am constanly amazed at how narrow minded TKers are and what little research they do in not even troubling to read my site before attacking me.
And they accuse me of being narrow minded!

RE: The results.....

i have read your site, but due to almost vomitting i had to discontinue. i'm glad to know that you've already tried it, and i'm glad to know that you've done further research. so have i. i have been studying it for around 5 years now. i can successfully move the wheel in either direction. i do this in a room without windows, and i turn off the air. i put a mask over my mouth and nose so i can't breathe on it. since i can move it either way, WHEN I WANT TO, not randomly, that proves it isn't an air current.

instead of opening your mind, i now ask you this: if you're backed into a metaphorical corner in an arguement, don't throw insults. it makes you look childish, and less credible. i understand that it is tedious to get your beliefs/opinions attacked every day by TKer's, some of them kids that don't know how to debate, but i deal with it too. except on the TKer side. i get attacked a lot by skeptics much like yourself, and they get frustrated that their big words don't sway me, so they insult. again, i respect your beliefs, do you think you can respect mine in a civil manner? or is that too much to ask?
