I completely and totally understand the need for security, and have nothing at all against Bioware for trying to be a realistic business and earn money. In fact I want them to be a success. I'm willing to vote with my dollars for their success. The price doesn't bother me. The fact that I play NWN on my laptop, which is rarely (if ever) connected to the Internet is the real issue. In fact, I would be willing to pay slightly *more* for the modules, if they included a non-internet capability. I appreciate the fact that Bioware was upfront about this aspect, but I just want to let them know (somehow) that I am a customer who would've otherwise have given them money, except for the fact that I can't realistically be on the internet. It's not a matter of broadband vs. dialup. It's a matter of being on or near an internet connection at all in the first place, which most of the time is "no" (except for right now obviously). If there were some other way for them to install security, I have no problem with the need for security in the first place, in principle. It's only the particular implementation that they chose which is the real concern, and obstacle, for me. If there's any chance of influencing their future decisions, I'd like to say please investigate other security possibilities. But for now it looks like I'm going to never know how good or bad or whatever the new modules are. |
