RE: To the American people...

To everyone in Odd TOdd land who is in a country other than the USA:

Not all Americans are as idealistic and uneducated as Mr. Dole makes it seem.

Mr. Dole stated, “The US is not a democracy. It was never intended to be a democracy. It is a republic. Everyone was never intended to vote.” This has nothing to do with opinion, or being on either the left or the right, it is a democracy how ever you look at it... and because of the fact that you said "Everyone was never intended to vote," you're also an illiterate idiot.

In regards to it being a republic. I would suggest opening up a dictionary and looking up intelligent words before you use them. When you do this, and look up ‘Republic,’ you will find that the number one definition of this word is, “A political order whose head of state is not a monarch and in modern times is usually a president.”

If you look a little bit below this you will find the number two definition, being “A political order in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who are entitled to vote for officers and representatives responsible to them.”

That sure sounds like how this country is run to me. But does that make it not a democracy? I’ll assume you don’t have the brain capacity to look up a word on your own, so I’ll do this one for you too.

“Democracy: A government by the people, exercised either directly or through elected representatives.”

Guess what Mr. Dole? A democracy is a type of republic. These two terms are not each others antonyms, nor are they exclusive of each other… and you’re still an illiterate idiot.

RE: To the American people...

As an American I want to add a second voice to the fact that the comments such as those made by the waterhead posting as Bob Dole are not representative of us all. It's like going to any public place. There could be two dozen little kids around behaving and you never notice them. Then you see the little bastard that is running around screaming, knocking stuff over, and ****ing themselves. You look at that brat and you think 'God, I hate kids'.

Sometimes you will see someone on the net waving the American flag, posting fictitious nonsense and calling it 'historical fact', and damning and insulting anyone that is not American or that disagrees with his/her opinion. Just remember that they are just our ****-stained brat without the sense god gave a chipmunk. If it is any consolation, know that they have a permanent seat on the short bus of life.

RE: To the American people...

I'm sorry Bob, I don't see any enlightenment in your post.
I would like to say that I am quite aware it was not Bush who coined the phrase "leader of the free world" I thought about adding that into my previous post, but I couldn't figure out a way to do it without seeming defensive. So I hoped that the people reading it wouldn't go on the defensive.

My point remains the same. If you want to have any respect in the world, you need to heed other peoples opinons. If however you are comfortable being the arrogant nation you seem to be becoming, then that's fine as well. However I will say this. We no longer are a world seperated by oceans, it is a global economey. Pls realize your dollar (while being what others are graded against) is not the most powerful dollar in the world. If you continue to isolate yourself from other contries, you will lose trade agreements, and your economy will continue to fall.
For example, with regards to cattle lets see, the USA decided to stop accepting cattle from Canada. This of course put a damper on many ranchers businesses, in response they have "beefed" up their other markets, and is now one of the leading suppliers to many of the European markets that the US once maintained.

While being fond of your nation is a very good thing, I think someone needs to realize the limits on a country in this day and age. The world will do no good having everyone hide behind borders.

And I'm at work now.. I think I've typed enough on this topic.
Bob, I think you're intelligent for the most part, however you do have a penchant to get rather snarky. Pls try to have an open mind.

RE: To the American people...

Syrgot, Mental-Gimp and Aurora -

United States IS a Republic. How about if you do a little reading before you spew your ignorant opinions and try to pass them off as fact.

The chief characteristic and distinguishing feature of a Democracy is: Rule by Omnipotent Majority. In a Democracy, The Individual, and any group of Individuals composing any Minority, have no protection against the unlimited power of The Majority. It is a case of Majority-over-Man.

A Republic, on the other hand, has a very different purpose and an entirely different form, or system, of government. Its purpose is to control The Majority strictly, as well as all others among the people, primarily to protect The Individual’s God-given, unalienable rights and therefore for the protection of the rights of The Minority, of all minorities, and the liberties of people in general. The definition of a Republic is: a constitutionally limited government of the representative type, created by a written Constitution--adopted by the people and changeable (from its original meaning) by them only by its amendment--with its powers divided between three separate Branches: Executive, Legislative and Judicial. Here the term "the people" means, of course, the electorate.

Bob Dole - I'm with you. Thank goodness more than half of America is more intelligent than these fools. Too bad one of the criterias to vote isn't knowledge of basic American History.

Syrgot-

I don't know if my last post was too difficult for you to comprehend so I'll break it down for you -

A Democracy does not have a Constitution - Great Britain is an example of a Democracy.

A Republic has a Constitution - United States is a Republic.

You would be ineligible to vote under this rule.

P.S. 'criteria' is both singular and plural. American history isn't capitalized.

RE: To the American people...

Halli..
I believe you have sort of missed my point. The only reference I made was "And as a 'democratic' nation such as yourself" I suppose you would have prefered a "republican nation" but, I suppose democrats are happy with my choice of words.. No matter, that issue is next to nil of importance in the rest of what I was saying. Unfortunatly it seems that you have an inability to see the larger message, which doesn't really suprise me, as that is a common trait amongst those on the defensive.

RE: To the American people...

cardioidiot - thanks for the criteria correction. however, I will use whatever case I prefer for American History - I am ultranationalistic - it should have been AMERICAN HISTORY - after all, who elses history counts?

a - I wouldn't say that I missed your point - it's just trivial. AMERICA is the GREATEST place in the entire world. If we had zero support tomorrow from countries whom we respect - yes, it would be disappointing. However, AMERICA doesn't need anyone else. Is that what bothers you?

RE: To the American people...

The US Versus the ENTIRE F*CKING WORLD in WWIII would not turn out to be a victory for the US. We do need support. That is a hypothetical scenario, of course, but assuming that we're better than everyone, and everyone combined for that matter is absolutely absurd.

RE: To the American people...

America is the greatest? Noooo.. I heard that Canada is the Greatest.. of course I have a friend from Romania.. and She believes Romania is the greatest.. hmm.. that is quite the puzzler.

Well I suppose since Americans are the loudest, it must be true. Although I have the sneaking suspicion that "greatest" is very relative.

Hali, I have a question about your name. Now granted that the only information I have about that company is from the debates that I watched and from F9/11 but it would see that Halliburton is essentially a scandel... I can appreciate the name Bob Dole, b/c that stands behind a person, not just the screw ups of a person. I suppose when I see that, to me it is equivocal to someone having the name "I love Watergate"
So if you could give me your rational for the name, I would appreciate it.

ultranationalistic? The term you are looking for is xenophobic.

Please excuse our Fragile X friend. Sometimes they don't take their medication and babble incoherently. The best thing to do is throw something shiny on the floor. That usually distracts them for several hours.

Does anyone really think Canada is the greatest? Even Canadians know that's not true.

RE: To the American people...

a - the difference between saying 'I Love Watergate' and saying 'I Love Halliburton' is the difference between loving a scandal and loving a company. if you were to say 'I Love The Watergate' - that would be the same as saying 'I Love Halliburton' - because The Watergate is a hotel and Halliburton is company. Watergate - no 'the' in front is a scandal... unless you specifically say 'the watergate scandal' subtle but important difference. I understand now why you are so miguided, seeing that you keep up on your current events by watching michael moore-on's mockumentaries.

mental gimp - I have it correct, the word I want to use is Ultranationalistic - but I appreciate the suggestion. 'left wing pinko' sounds about right for you.

RE: To the American people...

Looks like our 'short bus' members chimed in again and said nothing as usual.

When you say left commie pinko, do you mean someone that finds the ravings of a lunatic such as yourself pitiful and at the same time humorous in a sick way, like when you laugh at the patients in any Hollywood psych ward? If not, then no, you assumption is incorrect.

People such as yourself use the word ultra-nationalistic as a cover for their xenophobia. With rare exception they are always related and in describing you, xenophobic is the correct term. I would also say you are sciaphobic and phronemophobic.
