For Builders

Some builders have expressed their concern about not being able to look under the hood of the premium modules.

Here is what Rob Bartel had to say.
"Tell me why I should even consider buying one
If you have any particular questions about how we did certain things, rhfield, start another thread to discuss them and we'll try to answer them there, provide examples where we can, and so forth. Our security features unfortunately require us to restrict toolset access to these modules but that doesn't mean all us tech-heads can't still gather together and geek out on the details. Let us know what caught your eye (with proper spoiler warnings as necessary), and we'll gladly explain what we're doing behind the scenes to accomplish it."

So, you still have an avenue even though it may not be convenient. These modules are important to keeping support of NWN going within Bioware.

Quit Complaining!

1) Well said Steel_Wind, there should be NO reason not to support the NWN community!

As developers, we don't spend hours upon hours of our time on making new items, be it modules or custom content, for NWN so we can 'stick-it-to-the-man' (i.e. BioWare) and make 'free content' so you don't have to pay for it. I highly encourage players to buy these modules.

2) Us 'old-time' D&D players remember buying modules for pencil and paper play. I don't have any qualms paying a quality module, be it electronic or hardcopy.

3) For $13.00, you can get over 15 hours of quality game play (not to mention the re-playability). Compare prices to XBox, PS2, etc. I think this would be $13.00 well spent.

Premium Modules

Since none of the code is open, playing the modules is not very helpful as I cannot learn how to duplicate scripts from what I like from these modules. NWN overall is getting a bit dated (the only reason I still play is PWs). I enjoyed modules like Demon as I could adopt (with the maker's consent) scripts to the PW I play in/enjoy. As this is not possible, I will not personally be purchasing them. I am primarily a builder and scripter, and while I enjoy playing, I do not enjoy playing a mod "just for the experience", but also for ideas on how to accomplish things. As scripts and additional content is not availible from the modules, I will not be playing them at this time.

Buy only to play

I believe you should only buy the modules because you want to play them. But if you are “just a builder”, then consider that even a builder has to play the game once and a while. If you don’t play, then how do you know what is good and what is not?

topic

I think that all that crap that 'modules for money is bad' is utter ****. nobody is forcing you and if you are not going to buy em - don't buy em. it's that simple. these modules were created by professionals, and they deserve to get paid for their job. i, myself, don't intend to buy em and don't think that it will overrral affect community, but it's good to have sucn an option.

Bought Both

I bought both and am now playing Kingmaker, which is proving to be a very nice little module so far (i.e. on of the best I've played). The voice acting really does add to the quality of the game, btw.

these modules and NWN support

just because bioware is selling these modules means that if I want them to support my game of choice over the last years then I should show my support of them by buying these modules? I dont think so. At this point I would be willing to pay for some bug squashing in NWN. It would be nice if all feats and spells and effects worked properly. Hell windows users pay microsoft for less valued updates than that....

Me personally, I would never buy these modules because I think it is a cheap attack on the end user, and is nothing more than a market litmus test that's hopeful goal is to take away from everything that I have any interest in in this game....which is working functionality and bug free D&D multi-player RP.

Cheers

Support

I bought all three, to support the live team and to play some good quality mods.

Started playing Witch's Wake and it is pretty interesting so far.

I will Support NWN

I really spend most of my time building and creating - but I'll buy them just to help support the Live Team.

Both

Got them both - both Kingmaker and Witch Wake. Currently playing Witch Wake - it has really been improved. I can't wait to try Kingmaker. As for ShadowGuard - hmm, maybe I will play it - probably not though, as I hated Lone Wolf. The only reason I bought ShadowGuard was because I wanted Witch Wake

Prc = No

"How about 'waiting to see if PRC can be added to the module'?"

I guess you'll have to chose:

"Not sure whether I'll get them."

I think it's pretty clear cut: my understanding is that you will definitely not be able to add the PrC to the module.

PRC

How about 'waiting to see if PRC can be added to the module'?
I'm all in favour of Bioware creating new modules and selling them and it's entirely up to them what restrictions they add to them. However I won't be purchasing any modules if I can't add PRC.

They have my support

While I did not buy Kingmaker or Shadowguard, I support any efforts to support the continuation of Bioware's support for the NWN community. Maybe upcoming mods may catch my interest and my credit card, but right now I'm just waiting for something better.
