I'm actually working on a piece right now, I'm not quite sure what genrea it would be considered, I'll put a synopsis up here sooner or later when I write one. I usually have a few ideas in my head at once even while I'm writing something. I have a rough idea of the next three things I'm going to write, which could easially take the next five years... its rare when I really don't have an idea to work on, though it has happened. |

Posted By: Syrgot Posted On: Jan 4, 2005 Views: 573 | RE: University of Arizona I finish everything I start... in writing that is. I made that a rule for myself after my freshmen year of highschool. I literally wrote about 1,000 pages of fiction freshmen year, 50 beginnings no longer than 20 pages.... that was duing my "Fantasy is Cool!" phase though, looking back there wasnt 1 that is worth going back and finishing. Now the question is, if I finish everything I start, how many ideas do I actually start? I'd like to say all of them, but I'd be lying. Dole do you have AIM by any chance? |
Posted By: Aurora Posted On: Jan 4, 2005 Views: 570 | RE: University of Arizona I like the ambition you show Syrgot, personally I like to brag that I start everything I finish. |
Posted By: Bob Dole Posted On: Jan 4, 2005 Views: 569 | RE: University of Arizona That is excellent work. Just like anything worth doing, you have to make a lot of crap before you can get to make the good stuff. Sorry, no AIM here. I have ICQ on another machine but I haven't moved it over here yet. You know I'm not this sites original Bob Dole, don't you? |

Posted By: GirlUWant Posted On: Jan 5, 2005 Views: 552 | RE: University of Arizona Congratulations on choosing to follow your passion! I wish that I would have pursued a Journalism career and now my daughter is going to be an editor on the high school newspaper and wants to major in Journalism...weird... I often daydream about writing a book, but I think mine would have to be a self-help book for other women that are in potentially abusive relationships, because it sucks and you really DON'T have to stay in them! |
Posted By: Syrgot Posted On: Jan 5, 2005 Views: 550 | RE: University of Arizona It never hurts to sit down and start writing :) I think everyone should follow their passion and chase after their dreams. So many people give up them before they ever even give it a shot and claim defeat just because they realize that it's going to be hard. But as they said in office space "If everybody followed their dreams and did what they wanted there would be no janitors because nobody dreams about cleaning s*it up." Even if it turned out to totally not work and 10 years from now I end up going down a completley different road, I know that if worst comes to worst I can alwqays move back in with my parents. Take Todd for example! He wanted to make it as a cartoonist, and almost had to move back in with his, but then we (the fan base) came along and now he is supporting himself just with this! |
Posted By: Bob Dole Posted On: Jan 6, 2005 Views: 545 | RE: University of Arizona Syrgot: You're a complete idiot. Try and put yourself in their shoes. How would you feel if your 30 year old son was a complete loser, had accomplished absolutely nothing, and wanted to move back in with you? **** that. |
Posted By: Stan Posted On: Jan 6, 2005 Views: 541 | RE: University of Arizona Some parents don't mind, they like to have their kids around no matter how old they are. |
Posted By: Darren Posted On: Jan 6, 2005 Views: 540 | RE: University of Arizona Syrgot, how about starting out with short stories or articles that you can actually finish instead of trying to write huge epic novels? A novel requires a lot of planning and structure. |

Posted By: Syrgot Posted On: Jan 6, 2005 Views: 535 | RE: University of Arizona Darren, I've done short stories and articles. The 1,000 pages of novels I wrote freshmen year is where I figured out I needed to work my way up to it, which I have, and am. |
Posted By: Bob Dole Posted On: Jan 6, 2005 Views: 532 | RE: University of Arizona Syrgot: Bob Dole is the idiot. There is a difference between a deadbeat just looking to sponge off mom and dad, living at home with no ambition and a minimum wage job (aka Dragonmaster) and a kid working at a career and needing some help to get there. Most parents would be willing to help their kids for a while if it would help them get a career they enjoy and not have to serve coffee their whole life. If you are finishing the novels you start, keep writing them. It will help build experience in dealing with a project that large and each one will get easier. You will be way ahead of the game when it comes time to write one for publication. |
Posted By: The Almighty Doer of Stuff Posted On: Jan 6, 2005 Views: 529 | RE: University of Arizona I write too, although I'm not very good. I'm going to put short stories and Flash cartoons, among other things, on a website. The website won't be publicized until I've written several stories and have at least two cartoons up though, so I can be sure I'm good enough at writing that I can keep it going. It would be very embarrassing to start advertising a "great" website and then realize I'm not good enough at coming up with ideas to keep it updated. But what I really want to do is make video games. I've loved video games since I was little. I want to make shooters, platformers, and especially RPGs. |
