Directions

It irritates me when people use the wrong word for directions.

For Instance ~~~ When someone is in New Mexico "I am coming down to see you in Montana?."

Give me a break.
*If you are going from your current location East, you are going OUT EAST
*If you are going from your current location West, you are going OUT WEST
*If you are going from your current location North, you are going UP NORTH
and
*If you are going from your current location South, you are going DOWN SOUTH

Get it right.

This could also go under Geography.

RE: Directions

perhaps when that person in New Mexico that as you have afore mentioned was going "down" to Montana was rather referring to altitude above sea level in which the two locations differ. Therefor, he actually would be going DOWN to Montana.

RE: Directions

It is generally accepted that when refering to going North, one says "Up North" or in the instance mentioned, assuming that the traveling individual was coming from the State of New Mexico, the traveler incorrectly stated "I am going down to Montana." Where as, generally accepted, one can not travel down to Montan from New Mexico, according to accepted terms for travel, which was developed and specifically used when looking at a map, ie; South is generally at the bottom "down" part of the map. The correct term would be for the traveler to state "I am going up to Montana." Sea level has nothing to do with this matter.

Thus when looking at a map, one goes UP NORTH, DOWN SOUTH, OUT WEST, AND BACK EAST (I was in error on my first post).

hmmm, methinks you're down to Nerd 99% now.

I agree with the directions thing. There is a popular song out here that talks about going down to the north shore. Drives me friggin' nuts.

I will stand corrected. I was wrong, I mis-typed, I am now a 99% nerd.

RE: Directions

Is the North Shore the actual name of the shore?

If so, then one could actually be "above" the North Shore, and have to go down to the North Shore.

Call me devil's advocate.

Ok, devils advocate.
Yes, the area is called North Shore. That's where Sunset Beach, Pipeline, and several other famous beeches are. It's also where they film that doofy reality show "Lost"

RE: Directions

Personally, I voted for directions, because I can barely find my way out of a driveway.

RE: Directions

I know nothing of beaches, unless I happen to visit one. I have no Idea where North Shore is, but I thought I would throw out that just for the fun of it.

RE: Directions

Most of Cape Anne (which is in Massachusetts) is considered the north shore. I grew up there.

I picked Geography. I can get out of my driveway, but I have never once taken a geography course. I thought Russia was somewhere in Asia until recently.

I hate geography, that is I never study it. I do have a current atlus, so If I find myself wondering, I look it up...

I think I am going DOWN stairs for a bit.

What is an atlus? I don't think I have one of those.
