RE: Visit the pyramids

We can't do it now because we have a few labour laws that stop us from getting thousands of slaves to drag rocks around in the desert for years on end.

Also, the leading egyptologist is unlikely to be the one who turns up on tv with a funny accent. The top egyptologist is probably rotting away in some university library, unaware that the television has been invented.

RE: Visit the pyramids

They can do all the steps needed to build a full pyrimid now. A full pyramid does not need to be built to know this. Scientific experiments have been done with small groups of workers in Egypt using only the tools known to exist at the time and they were able to cut, move, and stack equal sized blocks in the timeframe needed by the ancient Egyptians.

RE: Visit the pyramids

i'm curious to understand how 'we' can't build a pyramid? Granted, I can't do it personally, but I've been to a few dams that are taller, wider, more massive than all three Giza pyramids put together. They were built in less time too.

Ya gotta remember that these things are shaped due to their construction method and materials. They didn't believe in the mystical powers of the pyramid. If they did, why doesn't it appear anywhere else in their architecture or art?

The sole reason pyramids appear elsewhere is the geometric simplicity lends to 'easy' construction. I always find it interesting that nobody marvels that square and round buildings appear in many cultures, but nobody says they were built by aliens.

Too Late-

It appears that you are too late! Any how, I believe that Jack was being sarcastic in his thread.

RE: Visit the pyramids

I can cut a 2x4, but I cant build a house. So what if a few people can move a stone, thats not the point, how did they get them up to those hights withought a wenching system or cranes?

"The top egyptologist is probably rotting away in some university library, unaware that the television has been invented."

I'll agree with that.

The thing is that the pyramids in Egypt and the ones in south america were built at about the same time, with the same gods in mind (different names, but a sun god is a sun god). There were some built in China also, just earlyer. Also, nobody is saying they were built by aliens.

I think that there was a large civilisation that somehow got wiped out, almost all religions have a "great flood" or something like it. Atlantis, easter island, stonehenge, the great wonders of the anchient world, peoples just starting out in civilisation wouldent have needed these.

Not all buildings are the same, different peoples of the world used differnet building materials, and such had different shapes for their buildings, only within the last few hundred years have we started using the square shape, and thats becouse squares are easyer to fit together when your building towns.

I am sorry for my horendous spelling and all that, no spell check on this PC. No word program either.

Do you have any evidnece supporting your crappy theories? You are like Leonard Nimoy in "In Search Of.." (Doubt you get that reference). Just throwing up crap.

RE: Visit the pyramids

Too Late, you are exactly right on that one. IT is uneducated opinion tossed around as fact.

"I can cut a 2x4, but I cant build a house."

First, you are not a measure for anything. I can cut a 2x4 and I can build a house. The studies were not a few people moving a stone. They were scientific studys to verify theories, which take into account the scale differences.

"I think that there was a large civilisation that somehow got wiped out,"

Or maybe human behavior follows patterns.

"only within the last few hundred years have we started using the square shape"

What is your source for this and how do they explain the square shaped builtings that are more than 100 years old. Also, how do they explain why settlers built square homes when they lived outside of town.

RE: Visit the pyramids

Whats wrong with you two, read the whole thing, take it all in with context, children.

"They were scientific studys to verify theories, which take into account the scale differences."

That doesnt explain how they got the stones up that high without cranes or things of the sort.

A generalisation. Some peoples did use that shape becouse of their building material. Your not going to build a round building out of square stones if your in a hurry, your likewise not going to build a straw house square. The point was that MOST people now use a general shape.

I'm through arguinig with you if your going to act this way, grow up and show me wrong instead of just discounting everything I say.

huh? your typing reminds me of a dog with peanut butter in its mouth. I know you are trying to say something, but it is incomprehensible.

I'm glad you are through arguing because your viewpoint is inane. I don't discount you out of hand, but you have not said a single thing based on fact, just opinion.

RE: Visit the pyramids

i didnt read through any of the long messages
i can copy and paste too!

Last year saw plenty of action in the media world. Rupert Murdoch won his decade-long battle to own a U.S. satellite service, using his 34% stake in DirecTV (DTV ) to become the planet's most powerful man in media. Former Disney (DIS ) board members Stanley Gold and Roy Disney stoked enough shareholder opposition to Michael Eisner that the CEO ultimately announced he would retire in 2006. NBC (GE ) took control of Universal Pictures, and Sony (SNE ), with the help of private-equity funds, bought the legendary MGM studio.

Who wins for being the smartest now!?

RE: Visit the pyramids

No, Dragonmaster. Your point was to post some more stuff you don't really know anything about and act like the enlightened one. Bad spelling, no friends, and uninformed views do not make you a unique rebel with some special life knowledge and maturity. It doesn't change the fact that you are a know-nothing coffee-pouring 21-year old kid living in West Virginia. If you knew even a little bit about what you were talking about you would know how stupid your attempt at an argument is.

RE: Visit the pyramids

Sarcasm, moi? It seems likely...

Of course it would be possible to build the pyramids now - my point was just that it would involve far too much time, effort and cash for anyone to bother.

"your typing reminds me of a dog with peanut butter in its mouth"
Quite so. Recent studies show that 90% of all dogs with peanut butter in their mouths have poor typing skills.

RE: Visit the pyramids

not trying to knock you here dragon but I love a good debate...

It has been proven very very possible to do it (if you ever get the chance pick up the old win 98-2000ish game pharo which shows how very nicely). They also used wooden scafolding, levers, and cranes with counterweights to build it. Even if that theory is wrong no matter what they used we have better technolnogy.
