Nominations

I am hopeing the Republican party will back a strong candidate here in Az.,to oppose McCain next election. I believe McCain can be put out to pasture, and should be.

The Constitutional Option

One further thought: someone needs to seriously disabuse John McCain of the idea that he's EVER going to be President. That guy's a total disgrace to the Republican party, a raving megalomaniac, in love with his own image as a "maverick", all to the detriment of this country.

The peeps of Arizona need to wake up and get rid of that doofus. I can't believe he comes from the same state as Barry Goldwater, Sheriff Joe Arpayo (sp?), and the Minutemen.

I agree with the last post. This constant hand-wrining, this imitation of Hamlet's Soliloquy ("To be or not to be...") has got to end. We all know how things turned out for Hamlet.

Bolton Nomination/Judicial Nominations

The Republicans are letting the Democrats posturing make them look impotent in their failure to overcome the continued unprincipled opposition to the President's nominees.

If the majority party is going to govern, then govern.

Similarly, Senator Frist continues to anquish over the judicial nominess. If it takes a change of the Senate rules, then change them. However, if you do not have the courage to take the heat, then say so and MOVE ON to something else. This hand wringing is for the weak.

Somebody had better get the Republican party back on track; taking control of the Bolton issue would be a good start. I, for one, am sick of the Democratic MINORITY
whip-sawing us all over the place....This is NOT what I signed up for when I voted for President Bush. We all know what the right actions are going forward - let's see if we can "inspire" our party to make it happen. I can't stand much more of this nonsence.

John Bolton

I'm sure many of you read James Taranto's column in Opinion Journal yesterday. "In January 1995, by a vote of 76-19, the Senate rejected a proposal by Sen. Tom Harkin that would ["permit cloture to be invoked by a decreasing majority vote of Senators down to a majority of all Senators duly chosen and sworn."} This would have effectively done away with the filibuster--not just for judicial nominees but for all purposes. Take a look at the list of senators who voted to essentially eliminate the filibuster. No surprises of course. Just another example of typical hypocrisy of the dems.

Bingaman (D-NM)
Boxer (D-CA)
Bryan (D-NV)
Bumpers (D-AR)
Feingold (D-WI)
Graham (D-FL)
Harkin (D-IA)
Kennedy (D-MA)
Kerrey (D-NE)
Kerry (D-MA)
Lautenberg (D-NJ)
Lieberman (D-CT)
Moseley-Braun (D-IL)
Pell (D-RI)
Pryor (D-AR)
Robb (D-VA)
Sarbanes (D-MD)
Simon (D-IL)
Wellstone (D-MN

Bolton Nomination

Echoing many of the comments below, I agree with those who are disappointed with the Republican's "girlie-mahn" conduct. They seem to have forgotten that 51% IS a majority! Bolton is exactly what the US needs, if we wish to have any say in what has become a US-bashing group of "tin-horn" dictators. Bring the nomination, (and those of judges!), to the floor of the Senate for an up-or-down vote, just like Chuckie Schumer wanted under Clinton.

Amen to the comments I just read, regarding Bolton. Many in the Republican Party has become a real disappointment. For them, maybe we could rename it the "No Integrity Party" or the "No Guts Party". Unfortunately it's all we have to work with.

It's way past time that Republican office holders get very solidly behind the president and conservative issues and quit worrying about whether Democrats will be upset or lie about them.

I think that the Republican Wimp Division would be shocked to learn the political benefits (to them) of standing on principle.

What Republicans are allowing Democrats to do to Bush's nominees is disgusting--and I don't blame the Democrats: it's their nature. What is ours?

The Democrats are acting as though they are still in the majority and the Republicans are allowing them to do so. The Democrats are treating the John Bolton nominmation just like President's judicial nominations. Republicans need to act like they are in the majority and get the President's nominmees to an up or down vote, no matter what it takes. These socialist democrats are ruining our country. They stand for nothing, have nothing positive to offer on any subject as long as President Bush is in office. Republicans must not be weak-kneed, and must be firm on the conservative convictions they were elected on.

Republican Majority

There is no question that John Bolton is the man that must represent us at the UN. The question is, will the Republican politicians represent the wishes of the voters. There are a lot of grass roots people that have worked very hard to create this majority. If the politicians we elected can't do their job, we need to look for stronger people.

The Republican members of the committee are weak and need leadership. Let's hope some Republican in Washington steps forward and gives them the leadership they need.

I have long accepted that the failings of the Right stem from the obstructionist tactics of the Left; however, I am finally realizing that it isn't the Left. The Right has proven over and over that they only talk a good game until the chips are down and then hide behind the need to "get along" rather than standing up for what is Right.
I think our failure to save the life of Terri Schiavo was the final straw for me.
If there were a viable alternative to the GOP I would already be signed on ~~ anyone else?

According to sources Colin Powell has had a hand in this Republican carping. Is it "pay back" time for Powell over Bush not allowing him to march to his own drum beat while he was Secretary of State? I understand Powell and Bolton had several clashes. Bolton wanted to do what he was appointed to do, i.e. execute the President's policy. Powell wanted to execute his own. Colin Powell just drove another political nail in his coffin. Loyal Republicans would not now vote for him for dog catcher!

Mr. Bolton was nominated to be the ambassador from the United States to somewhere else. Now, tell me again why he should swear his allegiance to the somewhere else. Confirm him!

I have to agree with most of the respondents. Bolton is most definitely the right person for the job. I'm glad to see Bush and Rice (you've got to admire her performance in Russia and Belarus) standing firm. If Hagel, Chaffee buckle, they've got to pay. As the WSJ editorial board opined, if bolton goes down, the dems will view this as a major victory. Why can't they just debate him on the substantive issues instead of engagin in pure character assasination?
