Posted By: Steve Posted On: Dec 8, 2012 Views: 453	CASSAVA:MATTERS ARISING The Federal Government of Nigeria asked farmers to grow enough Cassava for the coming several industrial uses they will be put into.The International Institute for Tropical Agriculture(IITA)Ibadan as we are told have developed high yielding stems for cultivation and many farmers are investing their lands for the cultivation of this crop which is going to lead to the high production of this root crop. As for IITA they have not told the farmers the yield per hectare.I went to their blog and found out that it is about 20 to 30 tonnes per hectare which is not bad but I do not think these farmers have been enlightened about the yield as many of them said that they went into the cultivation of cassava some years back and the prices offered for the commodity per tonne was ridiculous despite the fact that China offered a very handsome price they were not allowed to export and they were looking for buyers locally which was not supposed to be.The Federal Government should intervene to buy up their crops for at least N60.00 per kg. The cassava intervention fund should be managed with the Growers Association so that that can be more transparency. The Banks are really working hard with the Growers Association to give them soft loans for the programme to succeed from investigations made.But it should not be like what happened to the Cattle Breeders Association who could not pay their loans due to the ridiculous prices offered for their animals by middlemen who claimed they took the risk of transporting the animals to the various cattle markets across Nigeria and they can have losses due to bad roads and communal crises. The Federal Government should note that Cassava is in high demand all over the world and should encourage farmers so that they will not shy away from the growing of cassava which the Food Technologists are eager to add-value to in order to produce Ethanol,Bread,Biscuits,Glucose,Chips and Fufu which many Nigerians love to swallow.

The next Sunday he complained that he will never talk anything about sexual orgies in the Church again due to the fact that a Parishioner came to invite him for a sexual orgy party.After Mass I approached him and told him to continue condemning it as it is in the scriptures because many who come to the Church are empty about what the Church teaches.By running away from telling them the truth the devil will over take their souls. Many Priests and Pastors who are not working for God involve themselves in immoral activities by keeping "girl friends" and in order to satisfy them they pinch the Parish funds.When the Finance committee questions them they will say "they are the anointed ones and nobody can tell them to give account".This is pure stealing and if you are anointed does that insulate you from hell fire? Some priests in Nigeria will say that they are secular priests and therefore can have sex and not father children and can also own a building to help their poor families.I don't think this is a Catholic teaching. Look at what happened recently to Pope Benedict XVI.His butler Paolo Gabriele who was his very close domestic attendant betrayed him to the press.In my personal opinion it was not any other thing that they wanted but to get information from his butler whether he was living a promiscuous life in order to scandalise the Church and harm it.They are ignorant of the words of Jesus in Mathew 16:18 And I tell you,you are Peter upon this Rock I will build my Church and the gates of hell will not defeat(scandalise)it. In those days during the military rule in Nigeria prostitutes were paid huge amounts by SSS (State Security Service) to lure the retired Okojie Cardinal Anthony to rubbish his priesthood because they said he was talking too much but the Holy Spirit guided him.Rumours were flying all around by their propaganda machinery but all came to naught. A priest once told me that every priest must draw a line in between their relationship with their female Parishioners and themselves as they must rubbish you when you have any intimate relationship with them.I hate writing about this but the Pieta says a priest who is not Holy will not draw enough blessings on his congregation when he invokes blessings on them.Why then suffer your congregation?

It is said that when you pluck the feathers of a bird and the winds blow them away it is not possible to gather all of them together again. Mr President you may not know the evil mind of man.Please even God in the book of Genesis in the Holy Bible regretted creating man because he is full of evil. I don't believe those men meant well for Nigeria when they came to attack the report after deliberately refusing to attend sittings in your presence with no respect for your office.Taking up an appointment with the firm which they were investigating is both morally and logically wrong. Tony said in his interesting write up some days ago that the couples with pregnant wives are not wedded in the main Church but in a side chapel in the Church. Churches with no side chapels do not allow the organ to be played during such weddings.

Most of the men said the ladies will not want to be in a relationship that will not involve sleeping with their boyfriends.Also the ladies said the men would not agree to such a relationship. I told them to keep a relationship which will last not more than six months as the Catholic Church teaches. When you abstain from sleeping with each other on the night after your wedding there is excitement.If you have slept with your partner where is that excitement on that night?Those that get pregnant are they not worried that their wedding will not be celebrated inside the main Church but in a side chapel of the Church?Some will say they want to be sure that the lady can conceive.Then both should go for medical checks. This is probably why many couples are not excited after wedding as what is to be done have already been consumed.Please this is a personal opinion.

By providence three of us Africans a Nigerian,a Botswanan,and an Egyptian were grouped together.I was at first apprehensive of working with these Africans due to my past experiences when I worked with some of them. They were very quarrelsome and uncooperative when they are together. But I loved my company because of the respect they have for their personnel and can go the exra- mile to please them. I decided to accept what came my way as my Cross and prayed the Catholic prayers so that we can succeed in our task. The two Africans came to me that I should be the team leader because I came from Nigeria.They were so serious that I could not decline.I also promised my God that as these guys have given me such a honour I will not let them down. We carried the task and succeeded and the management was proud of our job. Leaders in Africa should learn to satisfy their people not themselves.Most of them loot our treasuries to settle their families in the UK,USA and other parts of the world.Leadership is a call to service and satisfaction of those who elected them. Nigeria is still being looked up to to lead the way as my colleagues called me to lead them.

Also their report on why our female football teams are not doing well in the world cups should be noted.Our girls miss too many chances in front of the goal.They should be taught how to make adequate use of their chances as other teams do when they have their chances at the front of their own goal post. They told him abroad students are not accommodated in large hostels.They are made to seek accommodation off campus. That was why Obasanjo decided to cut Education budget by 40%.He decided that no more hostels should be built as it is easy for students to foment trouble when they are accommodated When students were deprived o subsidised meals they protested and all fell on the deaf ears as Obasanjo had taken his personal decision based on wrong advise from leaders of higher institutions. Students who were living together as brothers and sisters,who knew themselves and were ashamed to engage in scandals or join cults because their female friends will look down on them if they committed any scandal were now asked to seek accommodation in villages where there are no toilet facilities,no water,no electricity.They were now living among villagers whose life style is far different from theirs. I schooled in the UK and up till today accomomdation is still being provided for students.Most of them prefer off-campus due to part time jobs they do.My lecturer from France once told us that as a student he worked before he could eat and that made him to have a great time as a student. We like copying things from other climes without looking at our own situation whether it will be in sync with theirs. If those that made the policy of making students to live in rural villages had children in these institutions will they allow their children to stay in these rural communities? The death of these innocent students could have been prevented if they were accommodated in the campus.I don't think the University security operatives would have allowed the lynching of those students even if they stole. These policies are formulated by men who do not have the fear of God and the blood of these students will haunt them.

I do not agree with him as I think France will not find it so easy to fight Nigeria. It is good that Nigeria is going to appeal the ICJ verdict.These people are not captives of Cameroon and should not be treated as such.A plebiscite should be conducted by the United Nations to know where they want to belong.

Where are the Urhobos? where are the Efiks,Ibibios,the Isokos,Itsekiris,the Ika Ibos, the Benis,the Etsakos, the Ikweres,the Ukwanis and other ethnic groups in the oil producing areas. As for the Urhobos those that are supposed to speak out are clamoring for 3rd class kingship titles which the Federal Government does not seek advice from because of the low grade of their titles.The Northern Emirs are installed and given 1st class titles with funfair and are turned to to by the Federal Government for advice and paid good wages.Where does this money come from? Your guess is good as mine. I was very was very shocked when I saw Ben Bruce who of Silver Bird came out to vie for the governorship of Bayelsa State.This man has never identified himself with anything about the state.How was he going to govern the people whom he cannot speak their language. As for those from Cross Rivers and Akwa Ibom states they are satisfied to see their young girls who due to hardship work as housemaids all over Nigeria(Lagos in particular) and are molested all the time despite the oil fields dotting their communities.Their men work as stewards,barmen,gardeners to those who steal their oil money. Come to stealing of public money I read Mr Eddie Iroh's write up in this day about the British man.He looks at the stealing of public funds as an anathema.He believes that it is associated with the third world countries.For him it is a taboo just like sleeping with your mum or daughter or going back to consume what you have vomited.I agree with him that that evil spirit from the third world countries was trying to find its way into their society for the past half a decade as even politicians were involved in stealing public funds and you can trust them.They gave it a big fight as some were made to refund their loots others sent to jail promptly. I remember when my optician made a mistake to send my name on benefit.Promptly the council wrote me to come and prove that I had no job.Immediately I got the mail I drove to their office to pay back the money.If it were in Nigeria nobody will check.I was very impressed with that attitude.
