Tough Call

Hard to decide between the tarantula and the rats..but I guess I have to go with whatever is closest to the face, so tarantula wins. And now I'm creeped out.

RE: Tough Call

But a tarantula you can evade quickly, just slap it away or jump up. Snot in the face actually takes work to be rid of, and you may end up extremely ill from the bacteria. So I had to go with Snot in the face, especially if you sleep with your mouth open.

RE: Tough Call

The thing about the tranantula that makes it super-creep, super-creep, super-creepay, is it's stealth nature. You could be awake for a few minutes before you realized that the tickle on your neck is this gigantic spider...by then I'd totally panic.

RE: Tough Call

ACTUALLY THE BOAT HORNS WOULD LOGICALLY BE THE WORST. If they were that close to your ear you would lose your hearing and be deaf the rest of your life. Hmmmm, snot in my face which can easily be wiped off, or being impaired of hearing for the REST of my life. Tough choice.

RE: Tough Call

Actually i don't know that you'd be deaf for life. Maybe you'd have a ringing for a bit or something. But I can't assume a short blast from a horn would do much damage. Sure, there's a chance....but the odds are it'd just startle you out of bed. So I stick to my snot answer. Snot in the face(and your mouth if you sleep with it open) carries disease and takes effort to clean up. A blast from a horn would be nothing but a really good alarm clock. Sure MAYBE you'll go deaf...but MAYBE you'll go deaf from a large stereo in your car, MAYBE you'll go deaf at a concert, but after my share of stereos & concerts, I can still hear.

RE: Tough Call

there boat horns people... boat horns... each of those horns puts out at least 24 decibles. now a really awful sound system might push 20 if that person is insane, and the regular rock concert, unless you strap yourself to the speakers, is around 21 decibles. now i know what your thinking... 21 decibles to 24 decibles big deal. well it is. the "loudness" difference nearly doubles between decibles as it goes up. 24 decibles straight into both of your ears in the morning after a restful sleep would leave you deaf for the day, and possibly the rest of your life.

RE: Tough Call

Deafness would be better than the squid. It'd probably freak out and attack with its razor sharp beak. I'm not having anything that can take out a whale in bed with me...

RE: Tough Call

sorry Rigmus, you make it too easy to discredit you. 20-24 decibels isn't very loud at all. I think my phone rings louder than that. I think you're about 100 decibels short of how loud it actually is. And considering a car stereo is capable of around roughly 120 decibels max, and that's a prolonged sound instead of a short burst...I'd still have to say boat horns wouldn't be that bad. And no, when you use 2 horns you don't double the decibel level, you simply make it surround sound. The only worrisome part about the boat horns would be the pitch. But like I said, I'll take that chance over having to clean someone else's snot off my face any day.

Waiting for your angry, hateful response :)

RE: Tough Call

Pingu,
I have to agree with Mr. Assmost. 20-25 Decibels is actually pretty quiet. Per the link below, anything less than 75 decibels cannot harm you ears. A boat horn is probably in the 120-140 range, and could give you hearing damage of some kind, depending on how long the sound lasted. To cause complete deafness, the sound would probably have to go on for some time.

I'm a spider guy, but snot on the face is pretty disgusting. I've been awaken by very loud noises, and although it really sucks, there's no shkeeve factor, like with spiders and snot.

Consider this variation: Awoken by a sumo wrestler pooping on your chest.

On a side note...poop is one of my favorite words. Poop poop poop.

RE: Tough Call

i would also just like to say that if you had two horns both blasting out a constant 120 decibels... the result would not be 240 decibels as one might easily conclude.
in fact, the physics of sound propagation dictate that the resulting SPL (sound pressure level) will actually read 123 decibels. in other words, two identical sound sources results in a 3dB increase over the original level. fascinating eh?
see... "loser" isn't a really a dumbass after all... well... at least an idiot savant. i knew that degree in audio engineering would come in handy at some point!
those air particles can only do so much people... poor little bastards they are... always at our mercy. say something nice to them next time you run across them. (i'm also insane!)

Thanks for reiterating what I basically said already. Guess you wasted all that money getting a degree when you could have just read a few books loser.

RE: Tough Call

Dear Mr. Ashmost,

I appreciate the attempt at scathing humor but I assure you that my education far exceeds an academic knowledge of decibels.
I would be happy to indulge you in a "****ing match" if you would like. :)
