Posted By: WWII Buff Posted On: Dec 15, 2003 Views: 678 | America and WWII Okay, first off, 5 beaches were taken in D-Day, 2 by America, and 2 by Britain, and 1 by Canada, however, all of the WWII D-Day movie's you've seen generally show the Americans invading Omaha Beach, which was the only beach that gave the allies any serious problems. The war was not almost over before America entered for several reasons: The war lasted 3 years after America entered, France was completely taken over, Britian suffered massively from the Blitzkrieg Air-strikes from the German Luftwaffe. Yes, Britain did do nearly all of the fighting in Africa, however that was almost entirely against Italy, until Hitler had to push back the date of Operation Barbarosa (invasion of Russia). So if Mussolini hadn't screwed up in thinking he had a military of any sort and Hitler didn't have to bail him out, Germany wouldn't have been stuck in the Russian winter and therefore been able to take Stalingrad and after that Moscow, ending the two front war and most likely ultimately winning the war for Germany. The European nations, however, did almost nothing in the Pacific war. So, for all you trying to say that this country did everything and this country did nothing, you're all completely full of it as it was an ALLIED effort, and credit is due to all Allied nations for the victory, as well as the screwups made by Hitler and Mussolini. |
Posted By: WWII Buff Posted On: Dec 15, 2003 Views: 676 | By the way By the way, America did not invade in 1939 as they were hoping to stay neutral in the war, however that became impossible with the attack on Pearl Harbor, after which America declared war on Japan. After that, all of the Axis powers declared war on America, putting them into the war. As for the Holocaust, America had heard only rumors of the German concentration and death camps, and those rumors were not confirmed until America could actually get inside of Germany's borders, which was practically at the end of the war in Europe. And as for the nuclear bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, America had just developed the powerful nuclear weapons, and did not have full knowledge of the kind of damage these bombs would inflict on a populated city, especially the aspect of radiation. Yes, America did know that civilians would be killed, however, civilian casualties are impossible to avoid in a time of war. The point of a war is to end it as quickly as possible, and when facing an enemy such as Japan at the time, this powerful new weapon seemed the only chance at ending the war anytime relatively soon, if at all. Yes, it was terrible what happened to all of those innocent people, however, not to completely justify the deaths of all those innocent people, but Japan did surrender shortly afterwards, in a war that the allies may have lost, or at least spent many more American lives and resources fighting for much longer. |
Posted By: As for the nukes... Posted On: Dec 15, 2003 Views: 673 | RE: Media makes Saddam look bad Each Nuclear bombing was preceded with a warning/threat to the emperor. The fact that two bombs were dropped means the Emperor ignored the first warning and refused the second warning. Pride brought down the second bomb upon Japan. |

Posted By: kevin Posted On: Dec 21, 2003 Views: 608 | RE: Media makes Saddam look bad sneaky your one of those guys that can read stuff but not really get it. 1963-1975? you mean the vietnam war? not a "terrorist action." that doesnt count. we didnt train osama in the 50's either. that happened in the 80's during the solviet invasion of afghanistan. giving aid to countries is not terrorism, even if they become our enemy later. thats bad judgement, sure, but not terrorism. and the u.s. gave billions per year to afghanistan before sep. 11. there were other, obvious discrepencies in your accounts of history, but i think i can prove you shouldnt have wasted your time or mine in writing that whole thing. |
Posted By: alfred Posted On: Dec 24, 2003 Views: 605 | RE: Media makes Saddam look bad the japs started it i assume by the term bloody that whoever said the war was over is a brit, cept fer churchill that foggy island had its head up its ass. lets get hitler to sign a peace treaty, that'll work, i know hindsite is 20/20 but i mean cmon, it was called world war one, you know that left it open for a sequal. oh, and bowling for columbine while entertaining is a bit jaded in its "facts" and theres a reason it is a private film, just cause its on dvd dosent make it true. |
Posted By: The Doc Posted On: Jan 27, 2004 Views: 596 | RE: Media makes Saddam look bad Alfred, Actually, WWI was called the great war prior to WWII so there goes your theory there, but you are right in that appeasement was the wrong policy for Chamberlin to follow which is exactly why the US had to go in and take Saddam out. Those you do not learn from history are condemed to make the mistakes of the past. |
