Where in the World is Dr. Zhivago?

At the risk of being an instigator, I feel compelled to inquire what the esteemed Doctor is up to these days? Still in Mexico, doc? Taking full advantage of the cash crop the federales were so intent upon protecting from your harvesting? Digging around through the ruins of another ancient civilization? Studying vocabulary for your PSATs? Please, inquiring minds want to know- do report back on the recent adventures of the infallible Dr. Zhivago...

RE: Where in the World is Dr. Zhivago?

In response to your query, I have recently been working with a talented group of paleolinguists near the Russian steppes doing research on the Proto-Indo-Europeans and the resulting Indo-Europeans. Within the margins of my schedule I have been checking up on the forums here and, although the tobacco topic was heated (no pun intended), your arguements were poorly planned and contained numerous cases of misinformation. The mindless drivel on the other topics was even more severly uninteresting. I fear that in the near future I may stop parusing this forum altogether so I can concentrate on more stimulating boards. My colleagues have wondered aloud, on more than one ocassion, about my peculiar internet habits and I have to admit that I am fascinated by America's thorough lack of knowledge and child-like preocupation with mammary glands...especially if they make their way into your beloved television sets during a football game instead of actually paying $9.95 to see them. I hope that I have sufficiently answered your question and I look forward to posting more responses if a spark of thoughtfulness happens to sneak into somebody's post.

Maybe this is just a coincidence, but I found a Dr. Zhivago posting on the Polygoo.com forums...if you register a username you can check out his profile

RE: Where in the World is Dr. Zhivago?

Don't hate us Americans. Some of us are alright.

Even though I should have been born in the times before the U.S. was created I have grown to at least tolerate the poor culture here.

Then again. I can't wait till my training is complete so I can travel to my ancestrial homeland of Scotland. I have German and Irish in me to but I'm intregued that the family has a castle in Scotland. I just wish that the family still lived there. It must look pretty run down since they left with that potato thing back in the day........

RE: Where in the World is Dr. Zhivago?

Ah Dear Dr. Zhivago, I must admit the thought of you leaving this board is rather disturbing. Why, there would be very little intelligence left here for to stimulate me. Between the cliquey little groups posting on the other boards of this site, and the witless pre teens on this board, I am becoming disillusioned as to why I come here. But I do find your thoughtful posts to be a stabilizer, and a joy to read amongst those who merely post for the sake of posting. So I thank you dear Dr. for making my surfing experience more enjoyable.

RE: Where in the World is Dr. Zhivago?

Personally, I do not think Dr. Zhivago adds much of anything to these boards. Sure, he chimes in every once in a while blasting topics, combating childish remarks from others, displaying his seemingly immense use of the englisgh language (although I'm always reminded of a quote from William Penn: "Speak properly, and in as few words as you can, but always plainly; for the end of speech is not ostentation, but to be understood.")...

...but not once have I seen a post from Dr. Zhivago where he actually debates a topic. Who cares if he fends off attacks from the 12 year old masses who flock to this website (funny or otherwise). I want to see some substance from you Zhivago. Lets see that brain of your actually work.

You said you were reading the last tobacco topic with interest, and you had questioned some of the arguments. Why didn't you bless us with your apparent knowledge in the subject? Why do you simply only respond to attacks?

RE: Where in the World is Dr. Zhivago?

Aurora, maybe you think the other boards are cliquey simply because you don't bother hanging around there enough to be recognized as a regular poster. Sure, there's about 4-5 people who seem to be in their own little world. But to call all of todd's other boards cliquey? That clearly tells me you're just a lurker afraid of posting and defending your thoughts/opinions to anyone other than 12 year olds on this little poll board.

BTW, nice of you to attack the "other board regulars" by posting your insult here on a different board. that must take guts :)

RE: Where in the World is Dr. Zhivago?

Nik,

I started posting on the other boards, but quickly lost interest in what seemed to be the task of breaking through the barrier of being an outsider. I found their conversations to be self involved and not very appealing. But for the odd real topic, most of the posting is done from one person to another, about their lives. I have no interest in the lives of the posters here. My comment about it being cliquey was not intended to be an insult, rather how I feel about the boards, and I don’t see any reason why I should be regulated to where I should post my feelings. When you post on this board do you c/p everything onto the other boards? And what good would it do to tell the other boards that I think they are cliquey? I have no desire to get into a catfight. You have no need to be so defensive Nik, you were actually not one of the posters I was referring to anyway.

RE: Where in the World is Dr. Zhivago?

Oh I didn't take offense. I'm certainly not a true clique/"cliche" member at all on those boards, just a regular poster. I agree that at first the other boards seem hard to adjust to because a lot of people there know more about & therefore address one another more specifically. But in time, you learn to simply ignore their personal threads to one another & partake primarily in the topical threads that have general topics more open for public discussion.

Sorry if I sounded rude. Your tone just struck me as a little snarky.

Name Names... who are the cliques from Cliqueville Aurora? You say it’s not Nik then who. I’m new to the boards and would like to know. Please tell.

RE: Where in the World is Dr. Zhivago?

Just go spend some time reading/posting on the other boards. You'll come to understand the theorized "clique" mentality, and be able to make your own judgement accordingly.

RE: Where in the World is Dr. Zhivago?

Nik,
If I sounded snarky, I apologize, that was certainly not my intent. Perhaps opinionated arrogance, but not snarky :-p

All in all it was just my opinion of the boards, it was not meant to be the sniper shots that begin a war. And it is for that reason that I will not name names Meko. It is not important to whom I was referring because it’s not an absolute truth. If you truly are new to the boards, you will form your own opinion over time.
