The people of America have to wear seatbelts because the people of America have decided to enforce it. If this response applies to you, you may want to go to the nearest library and learn about how the government law making process works. Also, it may be because I am a math geek, but if there's a very heavy majority to lives saved by seatbelts against lives lost to seatbelts, I think i'll go with the safer way and keep my pocket knife nearby just in case. If you don't believe in statistics, go jump off a high cliff. Chances are you'll die, but who are you to trust chance? |

YES, in a VERY FEW cases, people die in accidents because they are wearing their seat belts. But in the vast majority of cases, seat belts are proven to reduce injury and death. It would be prudent to wear a seat belt if you want to reduce the odds of being injured or killed in an auto accident. About the economics: if someone chooses NOT to wear a seat belt, who do you think ultimately pays for the 5-hour facial reconstruction surgery? Who pays for the 10 years of rehabilitiation? Who pays for the funeral and the life insurance payments? WE DO. Everyone "pays" for the stupidity of a few people. Ordinary hard-working people pay the medical bills every day for a few people who "choose" not to wear a seatbelt. Think of it this way... what if you make a genuine mistake and cause an accident this week? What if the other person chooses not to wear a seatbelt, and then sues you into bankruptcy for outrageous medical bills. Do you think it's fair that YOU should go bankrupt becuase someone else decided not to wear a seat belt? It could happen to you today. It happens all the time, every day. |

You will sure be free when you are flying through a windshield. And don't tell me you have a larger chance of living w/o one b/c I was involved in a major accident , and if I wasn't wearing mine I would've been crushed by a truck. SO THANK YOU i'd rather not be ejected from a car going 60. And you can always take your seatbelt off in an accident even in mine i toke it off right after the car stopped so you can take your belt off if you are trapped. My aunt never wore her seatbelt until one day she was hit and flew through her windshield and was lying in a ditch for a few hours. So how is that for comfort? oh and another thing, not wearing your seatbelt (for those of u who dont care about the obvious) could cost all of us. Have you guys ever delt with an accident and the money that goes into it. You probally haven't. I make everyone put on their seatbelt in my car. I had mine on in my accident, and my liver ruptured but I'd rather spend four days of MY LIFE in a hostpital then spend it six feet under. or hurt worse. So you guys need to think about ur rebel idea about not wearing your damn seat belt that could save your lives. Oh and if you were involved in a collision you wouldn't be saying what is the big deal about a seat belt when your through a window. Show me stastistics on you can survie if you WEREn't wearing one... S |

Whats the big deal about not wearing one anyways? Your chances of living are so much better if you get into a car accident. My main concern is that our teenagers dont want to wear them...as if its a fashion statement. Im putting this out their for many reasons but most important their is something out their that is an incintive to wearing your seatbelt...and thats taking away the things you probably love most about your car A.C, HEAT AND YES THE ALMIGHTY RADIO. If someone can agrue to get the In God we trust off money because it offends their rights, then we can fight seatbelts because if offends our freedom of choice. This will not let them off the hook for the charge that the police will lay when it is determined that they were not buckled up, nor the rate hike that will follow when they renew there auto insurance. |
