Femminism

WOMEN ARE AS BAD AS MEN!!!
Nothing new about that - in one way or another it has been expressed through Scriptures,History Literature,Politics,Family, etc for millennia.
Rarely as proclaimed protagonists (though recognised through their action behind the scenes, often underhand).
The ideal that world ruled by women would be more just, peaceful, etc.? Bull!!!
Just take a look at women and their "peaceful and just leadership" in the 20th century.
Golda Meir,(proclaimed to be a terrorist by the British when their influence over Palestina was lost to North Americans),Indira Gandhi,Bandaranaike(unless I am wrong, the militancy of Tamil Tigers started during her second term),a woman leader in Bangladesh(if I remember correctly),Benazir Bhutto,Margareth Thatcher.I may have forgotten some name,I am after all talking about what I read in newspapers from my childhood onwards. All these women leaders have been involved in external and/or internal wars, accused of corruption and the only "untouchable" remains "Lady" Maggie. Her son Mark, accused of arms-smuggling,embezzlement
and "various" for 90 billion pounds has not (as far as I know)only avoided successfully to face justice, but has been awarded the title of "sir". It just shows us what a title means today. And the only reason that he was able to do what he (too allegedly) did and not payed the consequences was because "mummy" was PM.How can we even pretend to imagine that we can teach anyone anything about "democracy,correctness..." or anything else.Integrity,Honesty,Sincerity,
Correctness HAVE NO GENDER.Just as greed, avidity,
hunger-for-power,total absence of sense of morality and ethics, aggression, HAVE NO GENDER.
A briefly publicised (ONE DAY) visit by Mrs.Blair, while Mr Blair was PM,to a charity fund-raising evening for a childrens' oncological wing in a Perth hospital, raised 150.000$. Mrs.Blair "was paid" (for clothes,hairderesser,make-up,etc.,according to her) 135.000$.The hospital RECEIVED 15.000 $ (FIFTEEN THOUSAND,YES!).She certainly is cheap,if that's the price of her reputation. And now,you all seem Oh so! shocked by the MP's expense accounts.I wasn't even surprised-it's nothing new.It just hasn't been exposed before.
Read,or re-read "Barnaby Rudge" by Dickens the Great.(Yes, I know it's one of the lesser known and least read among his works - and it's easy to see why!).
For me,a born believer in equality, that is:equal opportunity regardless of race, religion, gender, and equal reward for equal merit.Being a Woman,I feel keenly any discrimination committed on these sole grounds. But I do not isolate it from INJUSTICE committed on any other vulnerable group.(Not vulnerable as individuals, but victims of atavic and primitive prejudices and ignorance, solved by "brute force".

Feminism & Feminists

To me, feminism should be women being equal to men. But those who label themselves feminists (to the best of my experience) generally act like women are way better than men and that the whole male sex is just stupid and useless.

Feminism

Feminism is saying 'you can't tell how bad or good I am just by noticing whether I'm a man or a woman'. Sexism is lazy. Feminists make an effort to base their judgements on merit.

Feminist

Maybe its about women being who and what they want to be with no limitations, even if they have to fight for it.Being beautiful in your own unique way and have confidence within yourself to go and be what it is you want to be.
Dont be down on men as I know some pretty wonderful ones..
Being a Feminist is about being who you want to be and getting there yourself..if you want to go show your tits then go do it and if your happy cooking meals for your man then why shouldnt you?? know what makes YOU happy and go for it.

Feminism is

or may be an attempt to achieve the equality of the sexes but what it results in is women trying to be men, which, de facto, is impossible. All that happens is that they lose their feminism and become something less than either...

Feminism

I almost voted "women being as good as men"--it's pretty close to what I think. But if I'm going to be honest, I'd have to say that feminism is the BELIEF that woman are as good as men and should be given equal treatment. That last part is important.

feminism?

What I would like from my day to day life is not to be criticised for the choices I make by anyone. I believe that true feminism is the freedom for a woman to conduct herself in her own life however the hell she wants without fear of persecution, condescension or criticism from either men, or feminists. Being told what to do or being looked down upon for my decisions is just as offensive coming from a woman who thinks she knows what my best interests are, as it is from a man. I don't appreciate people who don't know me or how I work, telling me that I'm stunted for wanting to wear makeup, or perform burlesque. I do what I want, regardless of what any man or woman tells me to do, because I'm proud of who I am as a person, not as a gender.

FEMINISM

Great topic. I AM A FEMINIST.
I also work as a stripper. Add the 2 together & this is usually what I hear:
"That's brilliant! Show those slimey men who's boss & take them for every cent!" OR "It's women like you who give TRUE feminists a bad name!" & "A woman using her body/looks to get what she wants/needs from men is NOT a feminist! You should be ashamed of yourself!"

Ok.
The 1st group assumes I, like they, (am as f**ked-up as they are ;) HATE men, think women in general are better than men and, like them, I believe men are only worth having around for procreation & taking advantage of.

The 2nd group thinks, UNlike them, I am (NOT as f**ked-up as they are ;) allowing myself to be exploited my men & that I am dependent on men & of course, that I am the antithesis of a feminist & should hang my head in shame for making THEM look bad.

Now let me set both straight.
It is MY belief that feminism is about the abolishment of antiquated ideas of women being inferior to men.
That women should never
-wear pants or anything revealing
-take any job other than that of being a homemaker, barefoot & pregnant, a mother.
-should not be allowed to
--express our own opinions
--think for ourselves
--dress how we choose
--vote
--smoke
--choose to be & enjoy being, single
--be a sexual being with anyone who is not our husband
...and so on.

I do not hate men in general at all.
And despite my CHOICE to work as a stripper, I am NOT dependent on men & I am NOT, nor is anyone else, exploiting me.

Feminism is about equality of ALL genders.
It is about NOT allowing a male dominated society to keep us in servitude to men.
It's about many things, but what it is NOT about is man-hating or who should hold open the door!

And never, never, never will I hang my head in shame because of my beliefs and/or the choice I made to work as a stripper.

It is MY choice & much of what feminism IS is about a woman's right to make her own choices.

Fabulous site, BTW.
One you could not have if true feminism did not exist.
:)

feminisim

i suppose its more to prove yourself. you are just as good and there is no need for put downs.
feminisim is only needed when someone doubts you just for being a woman. (in my oppinion.)

My View

Femanisim is being a woman without being ashamed of being a woman. It is standing up for who we are, asking for the same as everybody gets and celebrating what make us women.

A femanist can work in an office or stay at home with the kids, as long as she doesn't let anybody make her feel she is less than worthy simply because she is a woman doing womanly things.

feminism

feminism is about ( or at least should be about) women being treated exactly the same as men. women should not just be expected to stay home and look after the kids, make dinner for the husband when he gets home. why should the woman take the mans name, why is it not that they have a double barrall name? i am not saying that the man should take the womans name, because then that would be unfair. feminism is about equality.

ha ok.

feminism..
it seems to of started out as a great power and a way to get noticed, but has come to this proving we (as women) are some great thing. we are all the same. there should be no need to claim yourself to a "side"!
feminism shouldnt be about proving anything. it should be about having and taking pride in being a women. men are no better than women, and women are no better than men!!
and by trying to prove so we are just as "oppressive" as they have been throughout history.

feminism...

feminism is just about women having the choice to do what they want in life. no more, no less.

i'm guessing anyone who doesn't see the need for it is too young to remember what it was like when we didn't have the choices young women have now.

feminism is just as important as it ever was in all those countries where women's lives are still restricted.

Feminism

Feminism is an out-dated concept, which often we cling too without much though about what it is now in a modern day setting.

When feminism first arose it gave women power to become equal with men, and level the playing field. It was successful in starting a change in the way people thought about equality. But now itÂ’s not about this anymore, we've moved on in the world. Now we need to concentrate on humanism. We are all equal, men, women, children, all ethnic backgrounds and walks of life.
