my daddy is a welder and has had 20 years of experience now. i wnet to work with him once. he works in grimy, grungy places that only rats knew about until they broke! i am so proud of my dad for supporting our family, and being a great guy!

As a welding instructor, I think that most people see welders as uneducated rednecks with a tenth- grade -education, at best. Also, it doesn't help that most engineers don't have a clue on how welding really goes.

After 3 decades in this buisness, I think that there are too many over educated people and not enough people with hands on experience doing the job. Look at it like this. We all didn't start looking bad until they came along. That what I see.

The real problem with the welding field is there is no respect for your fellow tradesman. Most of them will cut their wages and work for peanuts when times are slow. If they would stick together and quit cutting the rates to stay working.

PROFESSIONAL IS JUST THAT FORMAL TRAINIG OR NOT IF YOUR PROFESSIONAL YOU ARE SELF TAUGHT AND USUALLY RESPECTED. MAYBE THE ANSWER SHOULD BE TOO MANY UNPROFESSIONALS W/OUT FORMAL TRAINING ARE DOING THE JOBS.

I think these companys who hire us to weld for them should wake up and smell the welding fumes when they have a talented, skilled professional working for them.. For gods sake pay us what we are worth I am worth $20.00 hour. Ain't U????????

Welding use to be one of the leading "High Paying" employment opportunitys. Well that is not a fact anymore. Unless You are with a Union or you own your own welding business , a welder can look forward to the all so common $7-$10 dollar an hour
