Hold that last one

I actually think that there could be a show just about two British supergroups battling. My first one would be the group on my last comment. My second one would be:
Guitars: Jeff Beck, David Gilmour, Brian May, Ritchie Blackmore, Tony Iommi
Rhythm Guitar and Vocals Ray Davies
Bass: Sitng
Drums: Carl Palmer

CORRECTION!

I meant to put Eric Clapton's name behind one of the greatest guitarists ever to have lived...OOPS! Anyhow, seeing as everyone below me is making up their own supergroups, I'll go ahead and do the same, assuming we can in fact resurrect musicians from the dead...

USA
vocals-eddie vedder and janis joplin
lead guitar-stevie ray vaughn and jimi hendrix
guitar-slash and eddie van halen
rhythm guitar-stone gossard
bass-les claypool
keyboards-ray manzarek
piano-stevie wonder
drums-dave grohl all the way!

UK
vocals-bono (circa 80's lol)and paul mccartney
lead guitar-eric clapton and jimmy page
guitar-pete townshend
rhythm guitar-joe strummer
bass-jack bruce
keyboards-steve winwood
piano-elton john
drums-keith moon

This way, the US would at least have a fighting chance, if not the win! O_o

Without question, UK...but...

In all honesty, I have no doubt that the UK would win when it comes to making the best album of the two supergroups. I mean, they've got Beatle Paul on their team, one of the greatest songwriters of this century. Not to mention Pete Townsend, also a phenominal writer in his own right, as well as one of the most talented guitarists ever to have lived. However, I have to wonder why you chose McCartney to play bass guitar...Jack Bruce of Cream was far better than McCartney ever was, in my opinion. Next, I would change some of the choices for the USA supergroup, starting with the guitarists. Springsteen would be out, though I love his work. I'd replace him with Slash from GNR as guitarist. Billie Jo would be out, and I'd replace him with Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam for rhythm guitar. And though it would be a hard decision, I feel that Les Claypool of Primus is a far more talented bassist than Flea. Now if only we could resurrect musicians from the dead...wouldn't that be a trip! KUDOS!

working together

Its not just talent here, I think. There is a certain amount of cohesion that's needed when making an album. I went with the UK line-Up for the sheer fact that those guys know each other, for the most part. Phil Collins has toured with Eric Clapton, Eric Clapton is friends with Pete Townshend, and has played with Steve Winwood, Phil has played charity shows where he has been the drummer for Paul McCartny and Elton John. So, I think they'd turn out the better album because they have a good sense of everyone elses styles in the group.

Townshend is awesome

I was just watching a video of Townshend on YouTube playing acoustic at the Secret Policeman's concert. He did a song called "Drowned" which was awesome.

This is for a new TV show - only living musicians

Everyone loves Hendrix but I kind of got the idea for this TV show because everyone would talk about the all-star rock band in heaven - Lennon, Moon, Hendrix, Elvis, Entwistle
and I thought "what about the musicians that are still around?" - so that's where the idea for this TV show came from. Make sure you go to the bottom of the page where you can vote for living artists that you'd like to see on a Supergroup.
