RE: Gods

Ok, after checking my E-mail and turning on the spamgard (oops, should have seen that one) a certain person has thought that I am an atheist. I am not. I am Wiccan.

Also in the E-mail - "and then proceed by saying people who aren't like you are dumbasses with no right to live?"

Have I ever said that for a religious argument? If I have, I'm sorry.

More spelling corection crap, and stuf. WHatever.

I promise I'll get to the others, this one just offed me. It's the only negetive one, well the only negative one by someone who misunderstood me.

re: Big Bang Theory. Ok, so Big Bang Theorist say that the universe was once one big massive ball of unimaginatively dense energy that suddenly exploded. Makes sense...sure. But what I'd like to know is...what did it explode into? Surely this mass had to occupy some other space. So if something exists outside of the entire universe...what is it??? That one boggles the mind.

RE: Gods

"Wiccans" taken from About.com:

Wicca is an Earth-centered religion - We don't necessarily worship the Earth, but we do hold it sacred, and celebrate the cycles and the seasons.
Wicca is polytheistic - Not all Wiccans follow precisely the same path when it comes to Deity, but typically we believe in multiple Gods and Goddesses often taken from different cultures and time periods. Many Wiccans will work with 1 or 2 Deities, rather than worshipping the entire gamut.
Wiccans do practice magick - Magick and spells are part of our religion. This sometimes seems far-fetched to those who don't understand. Forget every magick spell you've ever seen on TV or in the movies. Magick is nothing more than utilizing the energy that exists around us in nature. It's a delicate art that takes time, study and practice to master. We don't spend our days casting spells willy-nilly.
Wiccans do gather in covens - The media has made this sound more sinister than it really is. A coven can be any number of people (not just 13), and involves a group of Wiccans who gather regularly for ritual, magick, study and celebration. It's not that mysterious at all. Many Wiccans are not part of any coven, and folks who work alone are called 'solitaries'.

RE: Gods

Alright, let me rephrase what I don't understand. I know the big bang theory, that's not what I'm asking about. Two membranes colided, and the rest is history, right? But what created those two membranes? I suppose you could say "they were just there" and if thats your stance, I can't argue it. But wouldnt those two membranes need to have been created at some point or another? That's the part I don't understand. What created those if there is no higher being?

And yes Dr. Zhigalvo, I believe God does need a PDA.

RE: Gods

go away for a week or two and you come back to DM ****ing and moaning and lobbing ideological hand grenades, such an obvious bait. Nice to see everyone gettin' on his ass for spelling. Your poor spelling indicates a sloppy mind. How much effort you put into deciding you are a Wiccan... about as much time as you researched Christianity? You seem to be a snap judgement and only open to ideas you that fit your idea of reality.

RE: Gods

oh and by the way... if I remember correctly, the Christian god is the same as the Jewish god and is the same as the Islamic god. Not everyone agrees on the same prophets, the messiah, or even which version of scripture, but it is all the same creator. At least for those three major divisions of religion.

DragonlordALS:

You say "The difference is that what I do know can be proven". There is a big difference between fact and theory and almost everything "known" about the creation of the universe it theory. Even if we had the mental capacity to understand it all, we would never have enough proper data to prove these theories.

As far as the existence of God, I am not arguing one way or another. That is for each person to figure out on their own.

Dan "the Lead-Eating Retard":

Thanks for changing your name. Actually I only wrote one paragraph and there are 3 typos, not 2. Also, the first atheist should have been plural.

Syrgot:

Nobody knows the answer to that. One theory in quantum physics is that matter broken down to it's smallest structure is nothing but energy. So by that token, nothing really exists in a physical sense to bang. Protozoans have a better chance of unifying Einstein's laws of physics than humans do of solving the secrets of the universe.

Phreak:

Probably five minutes. Yes, all three of those religions are said to come from the old testament. There are seventeen religions practiced by a large group (200,000+) of people.

Syrgot, If a higher being is needed to create those things, who or what created the higher being?

RE: Gods

I think the big bang theory goes something like this.

In the beginning everything was clumped together. Everything. All matter was compressed into a tiny ball, which took up no space at all, and had no volume and the only thing keeping it from tearing apart was gravity. Something had enough force when it smashed into this object that it exploded, sending everything off into what is now space. About... 100 billion years later, earth begins to form. Anyway, there are also 2 theories about the end of the universe assuming the big bang is true.

1. Infinite Expansion
The universe continues expanding forever and ever and ever, because gravity will never be able to compensate for the speed it is doing while it expands.

2. Implosion

Expansion slows down. Gravity catches up with the speed of the universe and starts pulling it back into itself.
