RE: Gods

So shut your hole.

All that and you are still just talking about theory. It proves nothing in German or English.

That should read:

RE: Gods

Wow! I like this thread.
The shape of the universe thing is interesting. There are three prevelant theories as to the shape, open, closed, and flat. People have used mathematics in crazy ways that I can't remember to explain their theories.
Here's the basics:
If the universe is open, it is saddle shaped, parallel lines diverge, and it will continue to expand forever.
If it is closed, parallel lines converge at the edges, it is spherical and will one day stop expanding and end in a big crunch as galaxies cave back in.
If it is flat,(pancake) It will continue to expand but the rate of expansion will approach zero as the repulsive forces of the big bang and gravity cancel each other out. From the scientific data to date, flat is the most likely shape.
Given the fact that solar systems and galaxies are disk shaped, I would guess the pancake theory is the most accurate.
As far as a god goes, that is at best a hypothesis. You can't test it, measure it, or collect any data about it.
Personally, I don't believe there is, has been, or ever will be a god or gods.
Several people have said that religion is harmless but I have to disagree.
Many of our laws and the way society behaves are based on religion. We still have laws in some states that outlaw homosexuality. That makes absolutely no sense. How do the actions of two consenting adults behind closed doors affect anyone else at all?
Remember too, that slavery was once lawful in this country because people viewed blacks as sons and daughters of Cain and the bible says that they are to be slaves.
Ok, I'm done ranting.
For the record, I also don't believe in ghosts, magic, or alien abduction.
One more thing, everyone seems to like to trash Dragonmaster on this board and yet his threads always seem to have the most responses. Why is that?

RE: Gods

New data from deep space supernovae suggests the open theory is the most valid.

Yes, the existence of God can't be proven, and for good reason.

Belief is no more harmful or harmless than non-belief. The issues you bring up are about power and control and have very little to do with the word of any God. People make the incorrect assumption that God would be as stupid and petty as a human. Slaves were slaves because it was free labor and skin color made it easy to justify. Any connection to the bible was purely for easing the conscience.

RE: Gods

I agree completely!
Someone trashed Dragonmaster earlier for connecting religion, the KKK, and Hitler.
It may be extremeists that do it but the KKK has had many members and Hitler was able to unite an entire country against Jews.
Religion is an excellent moral scapegoat but just because a ton of like-minded people are down on their luck, it doesn't make it ok to do all of that stuff in the name of god.

Use your same logic to defend terrorists, it works just fine.

RE: Gods

wait, quick question: why does the shape of the universe have to be a big thing we want to know? how does this help us in any way, shape, or form?

"Alright! We know that the universe is flat!...uh, who wants IHOP?"

How will knowing the shape of the universe make things bigger or better? It's like knowing every single word on every stupid song by Cher! It's worthless.
So why are we even talking about it? It's just plain retarded, and not in the good way!

The reason he gets the most replies is because he is stupid, offensive, ignorant and intolerant. Plus it's easy and fun to make fun of him.

RE: Gods

By that same logic, knowing anything is stupid. Knowing everything is stupid. Knowing the unificaton of einstiens grand theory of relativity is practically worthless. Pi? Who gives a damn. What about going into an arby's, buying 1 sandwhich, giving the guy $10 and a penny, just for the sport of it. We do it because we can, we do it because it takes us off the issues going on on the global scale. Thats why.

When did retarded become a good thing?

RE: Gods

aw snap,
The answer itself may not make any difference to you but the technology developed to find the answer will certainly affect you.
Aside from that, it's a search for knowledge and that kind of pure research is always a good thing. If everyone had the same point of view as you, we would all still believe we live on a flat disk in the center of the universe and everything else revolves around us. Anyone who dared question our beliefs would be burned at the stake for being a heretic.
That sort of brings us back to the original topic, doesn't it?

Bob, did you get that off some online dictionary or do you really know German? If so, what does this mean:

I don't think anybody else is going to, so I'm giving points to Bob Dole using Fluorine. Some of you might not know why, but only the smart ones count anyway.
