Wicca was invented between 1870 and about 1913 by two dudes and a chick in rural england who were a bit over influenced by romantic poets and opium. I can't remember their names offhand (will try and find out later, I remember one of them was a good mate of Keats) but they were trying to pretend what the old druids and such used to get up to in the old druid times. Despite what some people tell you, there is no, absolutely NO, information from those days regarding what they got up to. The frequent invasions of England killed out any memories of what happened back then. The only people who got into Wicca were drugged out hippy losers gulible enough to believe anything they are told. And no, I can't spell either. |

You have fallen pray to everything you were told growing up. If you get involved into it then you will see how far back it realy does go. There isn't much documentation, thats becouse anybody folowing this was burned when christianity took over. Look at the records of "Witch Burnings" That even you can look up. It does go back to when christianity started to gain power. We have lost most of our heritage, and will never get it back, but we re building our own, and staying out of the way as was do so. Wicca was a pagan religion that dates back to 800 BC. It was popular in northern Europe up until the Christian church began a smear campaign on paganism and portrayed it as evil, witchcraft, and devil worship. It worked and to this day people think Wiccans are evil. Christian holidays were placed on top of Pagan ones. Most notably are Christmas and Easter. Christmas replaced the winter solstice or Yule and it is where the Christmas tree comes from. Easter replaced the vernal equinox or Ostara and it is the source of bunnies and eggs, both symbols of fertility. The Wicca that Dragonmaster believes is not the same thing. There is information about the ancient Wicca but virtually none about the actual practice of worship. The modern Wicca is a neo-pagan religion based on the writings of Charles Leland, Margaret Murray, and Gerald Gardner. They started with the little they knew of the ancient religion and augmented it with stuff from the Masonic Order, Celtic beliefs, and ceremonial magick. The Wiccan religion is not a bad religion but it does attract societies misfits because it is accepting of everyone. A lot of the misfit types don't follow the religion all that close but rather just like to say they are Wiccan to be seen as a unique rebel and not just some loser weirdo. For example, someone that was truly following the Wiccan belief would not say Happy New Year on the 1st, as Dragonmaster did, but would have done so on October 31st. You have charlatans in every religion though. |
