Posted By: Brian Posted On: Jul 8, 2002 Views: 203 | Best Album? All of 'em Picking a best U2 album is like picking a single favorite food: It all depends on your mood. Pizza when I feel funky, Mexican when I need some spice and sushi when I need something exotic. That's exactly how I feel about JT, Achtung and ATYCLB. JT is a classic -- like a burger and fries -- and sometimes nothing can beat it. Achtung is exotic, "mysterious" and funky at the same time. ATYCLB is spiritual, inspirational, uplifting and optimistic. They all work. Still, day in day out I go with Achtung, then JT, followed by ATYCLB with a space no wider than a hair between them all. What about Unforgettable Fire? War? Boy? Damn, talk about a fine body of work (notice that Pop doesn't make the cut). I hope U2 will keep churning 'em out for a long time. Rock on Dubliners. |

Posted By: Kat Posted On: May 16, 2002 Views: 208 | U2 Well I chose Joshua Tree, and in my opinion there was no competition. I dearly love U2 - everything from Boy to ATYCLB - and many of their albums are near the top of my all time favorite list. But Joshua Tree stands out as the one album, not just by U2, but by any artist that I love unconditionally. I can listen to it over and over without ever getting tired of it. It truly is a masterpiece. |

Posted By: Jo Lyndon Posted On: Apr 29, 2002 Views: 202 | Joshua Tree "Jacob wrestled the angel and the angel was overcome" This album spritually ripped through my soul with "Bullet The Blue Sky," with its soaring guitar feedback and politically enraged lyrics detailing a war-torn country terrorized by fighter planes and insanities. Bono's poetical prose brings me to his place whenever I hear this song, it breathes like a bloodied painting. And deep within the politcal mayhem there is pure blues that elevates and emanates just beneath hidden streets void of names where old men live their lives in the ways that Miles and Coltrain spit images though their jazz instruments. These old men may be sitting on broken steps in the disgruntled shadows of abandoned hotels and apartment buildings not far away from the rich neon glitter of any city's Times Square, but they are truely living...singing and personifying the blues. U2 went out into a desert, they went into the streets of places and touched the angels of Harlems, they danced with clowns and jokers and thieves and spoke with the tongue of angels and held the hand of a devil, they sang with the ghosts of dead heros who barely could afford to buy new strings for old guitars, they wandered the lost streets of America and they found not what they were looking for, but what it was that was looking for them. They were discovered by the echoing blues [bright and resonant as saints and sinners] with a sense of atmospheric depth beautiful and powerful. They lived the creation of this album. "Across the field you see the sky ripped open, See the rain come through the gaping wound." We know they have come from under the bloodied red skies of what may be close to any circle of Hell, and what they have discovered in our streets and deserts, "As a man breathes into a saxophone Through the walls we hear the city groan Outside it's America Outside it's America." They discovered "She is Liberty And she comes to rescue me Hope, faith, her vanity." Well, they listened heavy to Dylan's Blonde on Blonde and they wrote a masterpiece that is sometimes criticized by its popularity. There are truely 10 great records ever written, and Joshua Tree is one of those records... "The cities a flood And our love turns to rust We're beaten and blown by the wind Trampled into dust " And me, well, I still haven't found What I'm looking for , but I've found this record. Praise The Joshua Tree... |
Posted By: M. Omoto Posted On: Apr 26, 2002 Views: 198 | The Album by far is BOY! Boy, oh BOY are people really sucked into commericalism and trashiness. What makes XTC a Whole Lot BETTER than U2, is their unique themes and interests that transcend the very flambuoyancy that attracts some proverbial flies. If Music is about being publicity motivated, then the hope that Euthanasia is an OPTION that may be chosen. Then again... WHO cares what I write, Right, Wrong or Indifference it may show my ignorance! BOY, In my opinion is their best and only Album worth anything maybe the INCLUSION of '11 O'Clock Tick Tock' on BOY is highly recommended. The entire Album is dynamic and derives a freshness that still resonates a YOUTHFUL IRISH feeling. Pride is the END of the LINE that U2 crossed over and killed their uniqueness and the rebelliousness... Cattle and Scum really sucked the big Phallic Symbol{AKA: Joshua Trash}. Even Ultravox was better than U2, 'cause Midge Ure knew when to throw in the F*CKIN' towel. |

Posted By: Ryan Posted On: Apr 7, 2002 Views: 197 | October Without being nailed to a favorite selection, I would like to bring October to light. Nobody seems to have chosen this one as their favorite and I think it has been wrongfully neglected. The lyrics that scream and cry and the instrumental landscapes depicted in this album express the burden and passion the band was feeling. One senses their yearning for social and spiritual healing in each song. The whole album is rockin!! Besides Achtung baby, it is the only other album that can be played all the way through without needing to skip a track. If you haven't given this one a chance, listen to songs like "Gloria," I Threw a Brick," "Fire, "I Fall down," and "Rejoice." The Joshua Tree probably has my favorite songs, but I have the most respect for their earlier works like October. It is truly fresh. |
Posted By: amber Posted On: Apr 6, 2002 Views: 187 | U2 every U2 album is awesome!! but i think Pop should of got a better score because it had some really amazing songs on it like 'please' and 'gone', gosh, every song ruled!!! they are just the best band i ahve ever heard, and i'm in love with Bono, no really! (ha) |
Posted By: Carol Posted On: Apr 1, 2002 Views: 191 | favourite album Achtung Baby is probably my favourite U2 album. Mainly because its was a new sound for them at the time, and each song is really catchy. I also really like their earlier stuff particularly the joshua tree and war, but their later stuff really shows their talent for experimenting with new sounds and trying something different. |
