National League player of the week

Ken Griffey Junior has once again proved that he is the best. Obviously healthy, Griffey has for the first time as a member of the Cincinatti Reds won the National League player of the week. Congrats and keep up the pace and the great work and hopefully the Reds can turn it around and follow the lead of one of the best of all-time.

Best of luck this season

You will always be my favorite player and I sincerely hope that you hit 40+ homeruns this season. I just know you still can. If not for your injuries last year, you would have easily reached the mark. Your the greatest or at least you could have been. To me, you are still the greatest player of any kind in the past 20 years.

Your greatest fan,
Ethan

To Mr. Griffey

Dear Ken,
Thank you for being the best player, and role model around today in baseball. I grew up in Seattle, and my first game was in 1989. I got to see you hit a home run, and I even got a ball signed by you in the parking lot. I was 5 years old at the time. I have been a fan of yours since then. Your the greatest player of the game. Hands down. I know you have had some injuries, and missed some playing time, but that happens.

If you would have been healthy, you would be at 700 easily. I just want to say thank you for being you, and I will always cherish the memories of watching you in Seattle. I am now a Reds fan because I will not stop following your career until you retire. I wish you the best of luck for this season, and I believe you will be great in right field. Thanks Ken.
Sincerely,
Jason Coombs

Thank You

To Mr. Griffey,

Thank You for all the memories you have given me over the years. You have made me a true fan of the game by the way you go about your style of playing baseball. You are cool and relaxed up until the point when the time is serious. I modeled my way of playing baseball after you, and was very successful at it. Hope you have a great year, and I don't care what any says, you are still the "kid" who will be the greatest ever.

Thanks!!

I have been a life-long Mariners fan and will always cherish the memories of watching Mr. Griffey, Mr. Martinez, and Mr. Buhner play at the old Kingdome. My family still lives up in the Bellingham area where Mr. Griffey started his career. Unfortunately, I had moved away and never got the chance to see him play in my "backyard". I now live in Arizona and I hope I'll be able to take my son to see the greatest player in baseball. I don't say that because of his stats, but because of the person he is both on and off the field. You have been a role model for a lot of kids and I will definitely be telling my son about you when he gets older.

Story

13 years ago, I was 14 years old. I lived in an apartment in East Syracuse, New York and Ken Griffey Jr. was my favorite baseball player. My prize posession was my collection of three or four hundred of Ken Griffey Jr.'s baseball cards. My stepfather took me to Seattle in 1994 to see a few games where the Mariners played the Yankees. I believe that prior to one of those games, I was among a group of fans who went onto the field to meet the Mariners. I can't remember, but I either shook your hand or had you sign one of my cards or both. Either way, I can't remember for sure what happened because it wasn't long after that when I lost interest in baseball. My stepfather gave me a few hundred dollars for my Ken Griffey Jr. cards so I could pursue my next hobby - hiking and camping. I bought a nice tent and sleeping bag and forgot about Ken Griffey Jr. and the Mariners. After some time had passed, I asked my stepfather what he had done with my collection. He told me that he took it to Cooperstown and sold whatever cards the memorabilia shops would buy. He said all the rookie cards were gone. A few years ago, I found most of the collection in a closet in my stepfather's home. Sure enough, all the rookie cards were gone. Like a little kid, I took whatever cards remained that I remembered as being special - like one of the Upper Deck cards from the Iooss subset from 1993 or 1994. My stepfather passed away unexpectedly the day after this past Christmas from a heart attack. I returned home for the funeral and to help my mother settle her affairs. Once again, I found the old card collection. This time however, the rookies were all there. Turns out that my stepfather kept all those cards. He just told me he sold them - likely so I would think I earned the camping equipment I traded for my collection. I have no idea why this time, all the cards were present. Furthermore, one of the rookies was autographed. I do not know whether that card was autographed at the meet-and-greet event 13 years ago, or whether my stepfather had that autographed at some other point in time. Either way, I treasure this collection more now than I ever did - especially this autographed rookie card. Although I still have not resumed any interest in baseball, Ken Griffey Jr. is at the center of one of my greatest memories of my stepfather.

Hang in there

Hey Ken

I am sorry to here about your broken hand, I hope it is not too serious. I have really enjoyed watching you play over the years. I am 44 years old and have been a Reds fan since I 6. I watched your dad play when he was on the team. I recently joined a Senior baseball leauge and really enjoy playing the game again after not having played for over 20 years, even though I'm not the player I was.I hope you keep playing for as long as you enjoy the game. Don't stop, until you decide. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a successful season in 07. Go Reds!!

Thank You Griff!

Thank you Griff for being a positive role model in my life. Growing up I often looked to baseball players for inspiration. I played little league and was very talented, but as I got older, I realized that baseball wasn't my great gift. I admit I have admired many baseball players over the years and you were one of them. However, I guess what stood out the most to me after my playing days is how very close you always seem to your family. I am now very thankful for your role as a sports entertainer because of how it has so strongly impacted me in that transitional period from a growing adolescent to becoming a man. As I grew up you became more and more of a model in my life. I still admire you for your talent on the field, but now more so for the man that I feel you have helped me to become. Thank you for your positive influence, and know that you'll always be my favorite no matter how many homeruns you end up with.
Thank you for your excellent example; it has impacted me immensely.

God Bless,
-Jason
