The roots of these Black separate from White groups has its origins in white controlled governmental actions. Years ago the government was adamant that there were to be Black schools, Black restrooms, Black drinking fountains, Black seating areas, Black eating places. etc. Racial segregation was enforced into the 1960s. Laws were passed to ban the mixing of Black people together with whites. There were even laws requiring birth, death and marriage records for Blacks to be kept in separate registers. It was understood then that if something was not indicated to be for Blacks, it was for Whites. Unfortunately that understanding still holds true today for most groups and pageants. It certainly looks like you want it to stay that way.
