Re: Yoruba Nation!

I think there is a lot of confusion in Yoruba land today.
This powerful race hides a rotten interior
Never mind the veneer of unity which is often presented to onlookers.
The Yoruba has never been united.
This shows in the brutal wars they waged against themselves for nearly 100 years until the British arrived.
A vestige of unity only came along when they came into contact with other ethnic groups that make up Nigeria.
Another point of unity is the deification of Oduduwa to a higher form of divinity and Awolowo to the status of a demi-god.
Awo's case is laughable because in his life time those who trumpet his heroic qualities are the same people who were his worst enemies.
In death even his statue in Oyo state was desecrated, smashed and then removed.
Yet to the Yorubas today next to Jesus is Awolowo.
However the race must close ranks in all honesty to forge a cohesive front to develop Nigeria.
The high rate of political killings in the Southwest must be stopped.
Like Kidnapping, it has the potential to spill over to other parts of the country
Today, the Ijebu will never work with the Egba.
The Igbomina intensely dislikes the Ekiti man.
The Oyo man will gladly kill off the Ondo man. etc.
Another issue is that of not looking inwards but outwards to find a scape goat.
So often Yoruba leaders and Media look towards the East to find the cause of Abiola's failure to be President; often ignored is the ignoble roles played by its own sons. Amongst whom are the very custodians of Yoruba tradition.
This delusional attitude found a victim in Arthur Nzeribe and in Uche Chukwumerije.
Conveniently forgotten were the despicable roles of Yoruba sons in the military, politics and even traditional rulers; Generals Diya, Adisa and Olarewaju were staunch opponents of an Abiola Presidency.
When Babangida talked about Abiola not being acceptable to the armed forces, the prime officers visible in the anti Abiola coalition were these men.
Their opposition to Abiola’s presidency, coupled with Abacha’s own ambition led to the annulment.
Not Nzeribe’s antics or anything else.
The civilians included Olu Onagoruwa, Ebenezer Babatope and the beneficiary of the annulment, Ernest Sonekan himself.
It is worthy to note that the Oni of Ife himself led a group of Yoruba traditional rulers and leaders of thought to Aso Rock for talks with Abacha.
When they emerged, their anti-democracy pronouncements damaged irretrievably, Abiola’s chances to assume the Presidency.
The finger pointing towards Igboland must stop if we all are to salvage what is left of Nigeria.
This mighty tribe must re-invent itself too.
This is my candid opinion

RE:Yoruba Nation!

We won't have Jide Afolabi responding swiftly as per the public lecture on Yoruba nation.

I expect him to classify the likes of Fashola as noise makers. He should rise in contempt of his brothers who are in favour of a Yoruba nation. Fashola put it cleary thus:"Any Yoruba man who said the Yoruba race should not have its own nation on the excuse that it would turn another corrupt country like Nigeria was making two confessions."

Gov. Fashola

Not surprising though, many Yoruba know they can't be trusted not to double speak.

Readers of my strong opinions against the Yorubas in this forum would have been convinced that they deserve to be told the truth about the Yoruba tribe. I expect many to be convinced by now that Ndi-Igbo do not hate Yorubas, but merely express their rejection of Yorubas' insistence on deception, trickery, insincerity etc as a way of life in a pluralistic country such as Nigeria.

In terms of cowardice, the public lecture stated the obvious: "The don stated ''The first is that he does not know the history, the achievements and the capabilities of the Yoruba nation. The second is that, in any case, he does not want to contribute to the struggle to build an orderly, well managed and prosperous Odualand-he is already running away from his beat even before the battle has been joined. "

From the above quote, it can easily be seen that Jide Afolabi do not know his history, and scurries away with tail in-between legs before the mention of "Jack".

To Ichie Ezinwanne, your intelligence speaks volumes. I hope Jide can afford to let forumites discuss Yoruba a while. He was quick to send a rejoinder on "Tragedy Of Pretence" with glee. Now a dampening force has been applied, lets watch and see how he's going to oscillate.

Umu nnem, Nigeria abughi obodo. Nkaa bu eziokwu. Ka mmoo anyi ji acho obodo Biafra guzoro jiim.

Latest News May 13, 2010 By Kolade Larewaju
Vanguard:

ABEOKUTA—A 45-year-old man, Mr. Tanimowo Hunge, has been arrested by the men of the Ogun State Police Command, for abducting his 16-year-old son, John, and demanded N100, 000 as ransom from the boy’s uncle.

Hunge, a native of Maun in Ipokia Local Government Area of the state, who was paraded alongside 13 suspected armed robbers and three others for murder, wept profusely attributing his act as devil’s work.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Musa Daura, said Hunge, a drum maker, had tricked John, who had been residing in Lagos with his father’s brother in-law, Joseph Dosa, to a friend’s house and later contacted Dosa that the he [John] had been kidnapped by some people who had demanded N100, 000 from him as ransom.

The suspect, who confessed to the crime, said he decided to do so when he could no longer endured sufferings as tree fellers had robbed him of the materials with which to make drums.

It was the devil. I used to have money. It was hardship that pushed me to this level and I only pray that God will save me from this problem.”

Yoruba Nation!

ARG and its agenda for Yoruba race
GBENGA ADENIJI:

"Any Yoruba man who said the Yoruba race should not have its own nation on the excuse that it would turn another corrupt country like Nigeria was making two confessions."

Gov. Fashola

The public lecture titled, 'Oodua, know thyself'' which held penultimate Saturday in Lagos under the auspices of Afenifere Renewal Group, provided the platform for some Yoruba leaders to renew clamour for political emancipation, writes GBENGA ADENIJI

Action Congress National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande

The title of the public lecture gave an inkling of what to expect. Hence, Nigerians mostly from the Yoruba ethnic stock defied the cold weather and trooped out in good numbers to listen to the issues some elders of the race wished to address.
The convener of the event was the Yoruba socio-political and economic organisation; Afenifere Renewal Group. And for its public lecture held penultimate weekend in Lagos, Oodua, Know Thyself was the topic chosen.
The guest speaker was a Senator in the Second Republic and Emeritus Professor of History, Banji Akintoye. Seriousness was written on the faces of the audience, just as many of them were clad in traditional dresses. And of course, the mode of communication was essentially indigenous language-flawless and undiluted Yoruba.
There were instances when some speakers had to code mix. But nobody raised any eyebrow so far what was said in English language was later translated effectively into Yoruba Language.
The National Chairman of ARG, Mr. Olawale Oshun, who fired the opening salvo, urged the Yorubas to be more united in order to achieve common goals and agenda for a truly independent race.
In its statement of purpose, ARG stated that as a group comprising younger elements within the progressive camp in Yorubaland desirous of change in the direction of politics in the land, it was determined to seize the mantle of a heritage that had tremendously served the race. It however added that the heritage was tottering at the moment.
''...this has become imperative against the backcloth of the repeated failed attempts to reconcile the warring elders of Afenifere, some of which were initiated by members of this group. We believe that the gargantuan tasks that face the nation, and indeed the rest of Nigeria, cannot wait while our elders bicker over personal differences. There are problems in all parts of Nigeria, which require new thinking to resolve. It is in this regard that we shall be holding hands with progressives from other nationalities across Nigeria to build a national network for change so that our people can get out of this quagmire'', it said.
In his speech, a former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu said that former President Olusegun Obasanjo sold the Yoruba race into what he termed political slavery by his alleged political restructuring of the country into 'mainstream politics' when he ruled from 1999 to 2007.
Tinubu maintained that the ex-President's mainstream ideology did more harm than good to the political fabrics of the race.

''Obasanjo sold the Yoruba race into political slavery.
He called some people mainstream politicians. But I ask where is the stream coming from? It is easier to say we should get ready for the task ahead .We have been told this before and they are still telling us now. The legacy Chief Obafemi Awolowo left is what we are still enjoying till today. Go and register for the coming election. Else, you will be complaining after the election. There is no 100 per cent vote in politics, whoever gets that, stole. It is usually fifty and above'', he said
Also speaking, his successor, Governor Babatunde Fashola, noted that the leaders of the race had sacrificed a lot for the race and the country in particular, urging the younger generation to take a cue from them as they continue to advance the cause of the Yorubas.
Fashola said, 'The crisis of election still exists, but what is the Yoruba agenda? Do we want to be a nation in the federation or out of the federation? There must be something like the Yoruba ethos. No matter how much we disagree, we must not break the bond of brotherliness. We have cast the first stone on ourselves even when people cast doubt on our unity. The task before our leaders is to define what we want for ourselves. Let us evolve a Yoruba nation.''
In the lecture delivered on his behalf by Mr. Remi Oyeyemi, Akintoye called on the race to unite in order to adequately tackle the challenges ahead.
He said, ''All our political leaders are forever blaming one another. But as a perceptive elder in our nation, all I see is that they are all to be pitied- because our whole nation, like other nations in Nigeria, are trapped in a debacle and are not sure of some way out''.
The don stressed that it was time the Yoruba people marched towards their true destiny, saying 'we can no longer allow our destiny to be held to ransom by those who seek to dominate and enslave us''.
Akintoye also lamented bad leadership which had long plagued the country and Africa in particular, adding that perversely ambitious and scheming groups take advantage of the ethical vacuum to subvert and control the elites and the destinies of other people.
''Oodua know thyself! Lift up your head and shine again. You are not a primitive tribe; you are a nation and a nation larger in population and territory that many of today's richest and most influential nations in Europe. You are a nation with one of the world's greatest achievements in civilisation. You are a nation that has a great deal to be proud of, and a great deal to give to the beauty of man's life in this world'', he stated.
He further added that any Yoruba man who said the Yoruba race should not have its own nation on the excuse that it would turn another corrupt country like Nigeria was making two confessions.
The don stated ''The first is that he does not know the history, the achievements and the capabilities of the Yoruba nation. The second is that, in any case, he does not want to contribute to the struggle to build an orderly, well managed and prosperous Odualand-he is already running away from his beat even before the battle has been joined.
'' Our Awolowo does not turn his back and flee from even the most menacing monster. He works with his people to study the nature, the strength and the weaknesses of the monster, and to design his battle plan, and then marches fearlessly forward to victory. The common goal must be to make these lofty approaches real for the Yoruba people''.
Those present at the ceremony included, Action Congress candidate in Ekiti 2007 governorship poll, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the party's National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, former Governor of old Ondo State, Chief Bamidele Olumilua and wife, the candidate of the Democratic Peoples Alliance in Lagos 2007 governorship election, Mr. Jimi Agbaje,Senator Biyi Durojaiye, former Ekiti State Governor , Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, Mr. Bisi Adegbuyi and ARG's National Publicity Secretary, Mr.Yinka Odumakin.
The clamour was not without a firm resolve indicating more of such to come

Detectives in Oyo State Police Command have uncovered a replica of the notorious “Oluwole” in Lagos, where fake documents are printed and sold to willing buyers.

The crime fighters were said to have raided the shopping complex, located at the old Gbagi market in Ibadan, the state capital, where some members of the fake documents syndicate were apprehended.

Elated residents described the raid by the police as a relief, saying they had been afraid of reporting their activities to the police. They alleged that they had been operating in the area for the past 20 years.

Two suspects, arrested during the raid were, Tunde Omotayo (aka Torch) and Lekan Olanrenwaju. Omotayo, 57, confessed to Daily Sun how 20 of them started the illegal business in 2007.
He also disclosed how they produced fake stamps of banks, higher institutions, police, embassies letterheads, statements of accounts and forged admission letters of foreign institutions.
Omotayo, who claimed to have lived in London, said he came back to Nigeria in 1986. He also confessed to have given many people fake documents with which they facilitated their travels abroad.

He disclosed that he charged N70, 000, N50, 000 and N100, 000, depending on the type of document required by his client.

Olanrenwaju, 40, said it was Omotayo, who asked him to carve stamps of organizations for him. According to him, Omotayo lied to him that he operated a travel agency. “I was surprised when policemen came to my shop to arrest me,” he said.

The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Adisa Bolanta, explained that policemen raided the area following many petitions from members of the public. He told Daily Sun that the suspects would be prosecuted after investigation.

RE: The tragedy of pretense

"The problem with Ndigbo is that pretense has gained such prominence in their lives that it is almost irreversible.
Igboman pretends to be more English than Englishman and tries to master the language more than Englishman that he missed a great opportunity to re-invent himself, his language and his value system through Nollywood which he dominates so much.
So this pretending has gone on to such an extent that today outside the Southeast, it is very difficult to know who is an Igboman.

An Etche man is an Igboman who pretends to be an Ikwerre man. An Ikwerre man is an Igboman who pretends he is an Ijaw man.
A Kwale man is an Igboman who pretends to be an Urhobo man.
An Ika man is an Igbo who pretends to be a Bini man.

The Southeast Igbo pretends that these other Igbos are not original Igbo.

So when will these people rally round and present the real Igbo face to other Nigerians?

When will the pretense end?" ... Ezinwanne

These soul searching remarks need honest answers please!

Emeka Ani: Ojukwu, IBB & the critics...

Emeka Ani is blind!

He thinks Jonathan would descend to IBB's VP in 2011 after his ascension to President, even if he holds that post for only a month? No sir; how do you reason? Jonathan is not a dummy, sir!!!

We know that you and Ojukwu are IBB's guys. No problem; go for him.

No sane mind will ever ever support this corrupt trickstar, who looted billions from Nigerian coffers.

Great patriots and statesmen stay at the background to prop up young leaders!

yes, IBB did a favor to Ojukwu, that's not a reason for him to sell Igbo votes to IBB!!!

What of those Igbos whose properties are still being seized by the authorities?

What about those Igbos whose bank accounts were reduced to 25 shillings by Awolowo after the war?

IBB should not not be allowed for another joyful round of looting!!!! Never ever!!!!! This man smelt blood and still smells blood!!!!

Whoever is arguing for the Machiavelli called IBB must certainly be a dumb fool!!!!!

Lagerback: back to square one!

A lot of horse-trading has been going on before the compilation of eagles list.

All the old players have come back to the squad!

Lagerback might have bowed to pressures from lame-duck NFF to pick their friends and relatives!!

Eagles have played no game, had no practice, not met Lagerback, not spoken to him, but were able to smuggle their names through NFF!!!

First round is Nigeia's target, and they'll grind there!!

No lessons have been learnt! Lagerback's philosophy now seems to be, if you can't beat them, join them!!!

A glance to the situation

Efforts are on the celestial 7th plane for perfect reorientation towards giving the Igbo nation its rightful deserved position in this competitive 21st century. Those that tried to annihilate the Igbo race misapplied their target and ended up in self destruction. I speak French Language better than English but it does not stop me from speaking the Igbo language better than all the foreign languages I have learned.

I agreed that Nollywood is another opportunity to market the Igbo language but the film makers are producing to make profits. They need a hyper market to make profits. They equally produce Igbo films for local markets. Nollywood today is the third world biggest film makers after Hollywood and Bollywood. Igbo’s shall always be reckoned among the best in everything they do.

Coming back to who is Igbo and who is not. Only time will be my people’s best teacher. After the Adolf Hitler massacre of Jews during the Second World War, the Jews in Europe hurriedly returned back home and built what is known as the present day Israel. Telling Igbo’s that denounced their identity to come back and form a Biafran nation with their brothers will always fall on deaf ears until the Northerners and the Yoruba’s completes their mission by using a feigned One Nigeria slogan to achieve their target.

However, those that is proud to be identified as Igbo’s are not deterred as we are capable of defending our destiny even on a rainy day. If Igbo’s could face over 250 ethnic groups that made up Nigeria and still survive today as one of the 3 major ethnic group in Nigeria, It simply means that our best is yet to be seen.

The instability we experience today from all spheres of life in Nigeria comes as a result of a failed attempt to marginalize the Igbo’s. Any human with real sense of reasoning can never perceive of marginalizing a race with over 50 million populations. Such an attempt can only lead to an endless bloodshed. There is an urgent need for Nigeria to widen their scope to enable them see things from different perspectives.

We ask of Biafra to lessen Nigerian burdens. Granting us the sovereign states of Biafra peacefully will restore the peace that Nigeria needs most. It is not possible for people with different language, culture, religion to coexist without tentacles of problems. Let’s stop living in pretense and adopt the only way forward for all of us.

SANI MUST BE TREATED.

I am not a mathematician but please help me if I make a mistake.

Like every other lady. The Egyptian Lady gets pregnant and puts to bet next year, Nurses the child for 5yrs or thereabout before Prymary school, the child spends another 5yrs in Pry Sch, 6yrs in Sec Sch and possibly 5yrs+ NYSC in University. This gives us a total of 21yrs. If 21yrs is added to Yerima's age I am sure he will be 70yrs and above. And if this process is delayed for any reason for say 5yrs Yerima will be 80yrs or so. Haba!!! When will either the (150,000USD) wife or her children enjoy this marriage? Or will Yerima have children and will not want the lady to make her own imput?

How much or how rich are his other wives that he has this much to play with.

What a cheating to his Nigerian wives who he may took free.

At 70 yerima could be suffering from (Snai Dimecia)I guess I am right An act of old age coupled with weak thinking

How much did he pay for the once he married in Nigeria? Illitracy and poverty is a desease no one prays for.
If Yerima puts this amount in a Mosque as no Church will need his monay I am sure the mosque will be 1st of it's kind.

We give God what is left and not what is right.

Someday soon we will find out what he actually paid for.
