Turkey

Turkey is incredibly boring. You can interact with russia, austria, and maybe italy. Nothing else.

england

England is always hard to play because you have such little space to move around and you have the least amount of resource zones. It isnt always easy.

Advice

If you're in a 2-front situation (i'll assume these two are austria and russia) the most reliable tactic is to convince Italy to turn this into a 2 on 2. Italy can benefit from this situation too.

Turkey

I think that Turkey isn't always a walk in the part. I'm just before the start of 1903 and I'm on a double front with England as Allies

The advantages of being a female Player.

Being a girl, you can actually have a better oporitunity to win, especially in ftf games. You can always promise a sexual favor for an alliance, or get a support in return for my (wrong) number.

2v1

Often, the western countries form into a 2v1. But which one happens the most?

The F/G v. E can be ruled out, it doesnt happen much.

The E/F v. G has serious tactical problems early on.

So the most common, and most sensible, is the E/G v. F

So long, France!

The Wicked Witches

Why does everyone hate Turkey and England so much? Both can sit back, relax, and play their enemies against each other. Then, they can sweep the board whenever they choose

sheesh

A solid alliance is I/G/A

It's VERY tempting for I or A to stab each other, but if this triple sticks it out for 3 years each can get to ~8 SCs. This is greatly helped if the alliance is hidden for 1 yr and they can get R & T to battle in 1901.

Italy can keep some pressure off G by picking at F. G & A can provide a strong front against R. R will be worried about Sweden, Sevast & Warsaw.

Boo all of you

Games, Diplomacy especially, are about fun! And god damn it, fun is all about challenge. No on likes an easy football game and chess isn't enjoyable when its played against a three-year-old unless that same three-year-old is busy shoving bishops up his nose and rocketing them across the board at you. So by god, what the hell is wrong with playing as Austria or Italy or Germany? Certainly I can see the logic of disliking Turkey or worst of all England (by far the most boring power in the game), but really, challenge yourselves my good men and you will find your skills improving that the game that much more enjoyable. Screw the man who demands to play a safe power!

good plan, but not exactly in that order. attack england and germany at the same time while their units are in different places. and never attack italy early. but apart from that it's great.

France in an EFG

I have found the most sucessful plan for france by far to be a starting EFG allaince, in which you begin by going for Italy, England for Russia, and Germnay for Austria. You can usaully negociate yourself Belguim, making for 3 opening builds. Use these to take down Italy with Austrian/German support. With those supply centers in your pocket, work with Germany to take out England before he gets bored with Stp and Sweden and tries to stab you. If you can wipe out England, next go for Germany, that attack on england was the perfect excuse to put your fleets up north! Onece doen with this, you are almost there. All you have to do is deal with Turkey, who will by this time have swallowed most of Austria and Russia. This is a great recipe for either a solo or a draw with Turkey.

Russia

if you read The Game of Diplomacy (http://www.diplomacy-archive.com/god.htm) it'll show you how Russia has the highest rate of BOTH WINS AND LOSSES. it's good if you survive for a while until you can get sorted out and eliminate threats. just like austria.

Russia

I reckon Russia is the toughest. Point is everyone is your potential enemy from the start, except France and Italy, who will soon be your potential enemy if they decide to go through Austria. The fact is the extra unit you get with Russia doesn't compensate for the fact that your entire country is open to attack from practically everyone. Also, unlike the other countries, you don't get any guaranteed supply centres by end of Fall'01. Unfortunately your fleet up north is on the south coast which means Germany can bounce you out of Sweden with its fleet coming from Denmark, Romania is a free for all once Austria gets close and can boot you out, the Black Sea is a nightmare and both Germany and Austria make a play for Warsaw. Therefore I reckon you've got to be a brilliant diplomat if you want to succeed with Russia.

England

Not really the worst I found out a good way to put down Germany with England but I want to email someone from this site and for them to make an artical of it and tell me what they think about it because really..its not that bad going against France is one thing going against Russia is a bad thing but Germany is the best thing

So if you can give me an email so I can send you what I think England should do in the Open Starting Game
