Police to clamp down on cultists in Ogun

Police to clamp down on cultists in Ogun
By Ademola Oni, Abeokuta
Tuesday, 8 Jun 2010

The Ogun State Police Command has warned parents and guardians in the state to put their wards in check over the incessant cult clashes in the state, on which the command has promised to begin a massive offensive.

In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in Abeokuta on Monday, the command reminded residents of the state that cultism remained a criminal act punishable under the law of the land.

There had been cult clashes notably in Sagamu, where no fewer than five persons died in April and in Ifo, Ifo Local Government Area in May, where a leader of a cult group, Murtala Alaya, and others reportedly died in a clash with members of Oodua Peoples Congress.

Tension is still said to be thick in the town over fears that the two groups might still engage themselves in a violent confrontation as the house of an OPC member was said to have been razed in retaliation.

There is also a running battle between suspected cultists and members of the Muslim Students Society of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, with the MSS students vowing to use all weapons at their disposal to resist further onslaught on their members.

Two weeks ago, suspected cultists invaded the residence of a lecturer in the Department of Paediatrics, Olabisi Onabanjo College of Medical Sciences, Sagamu and injected the lecturer’s wife with lethal chemical over an unknown matter.
Adejobi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, vowed that the command would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone that was involved in cultism.

He said, “The command appeals to parents and guardians to warn their children and wards that cultism is a criminal act and punishable under the law; and the command will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone parading himself as a cultist and/or fomenting trouble in this peaceful state.”

The PPRO denied that three suspected cultists were killed in Sagamu during cult clashes in the town recently, admitting that the cultists only engaged in sporadic shootings to scare away their opposition.

He added, “The command wishes to state categorically that the cult boys were only shooting sporadically into the air to scare one another and no one even sustained any injury as the sudden appearance of the police at the Bright Fashion Area of Sagamu (the conflict theatre) made the miscreants to flee and sheathe their swords

Igbo Language

Igbo Language Law Debuts In Anambra
By Chukwujekwu Ilozue , Reporter, Onitsha

Principals of secondary schools in Anambra State who promote pupils from Junior Secondary School III (JSS III) to Senior Secondary School I (SSS I) without the pupils passing Igbo language are to be removed from their positions and fined N5,000, for each of the pupils so promoted.

Also, any state or privately owned tertiary institution in the state which is found not to have established an Igbo language department or made Igbo language a mandatory general studies course by September, 2011 shall pay a fine of N100,000 for every month in which the offence continues.
These are some of the punishments prescribed by the newly enacted law, which is cited as Igbo Language Enforcement Law, 2010, which came into force on May 11, 2010.

It would be recalled that Governor Peter Obi signed the Bill into Law on the day he launched **Suwakwa Igbo** (speak Igbo) designed to enhance wide usage of Igbo language to save it from extinction.
At the public signing of the Bill into Law Obi also announced the stoppage of corporal punishment to students who speak Igbo in schools in the state and announced that Igbo Language would henceforth be compulsory in all the categories of educational institution in the state just as English and Mathematics are.

Among other things, the law prescribes that Igbo language as a subject must be passed by an Igbo student before he can be promoted from JSS III to SSS I in all secondary schools in the state; every state or privately owned tertiary institution in the state must establish an Independent department of Igbo language a mandatory general studies course in the institution and that any state or privately owned tertiary institution within the state and which is found not to have established an Igbo language department, or made Igbo language a mandatory general studies course in accordance with the provisions of the relevant sections by September, shall be liable to a fine of N100,000 for every month in which the offence continues.

Also, a head of the relevant department who finds a staff of that department dressed in Western attire in contravention of the provisions of a particular section of the law shall send that staff home to change into an Igbo traditional attire.
Also, from the commencement of the law, every Wednesday in every week shall be observed as Igbo day. That means that every staff of the state public service shall dress in Igbo traditional attire and all businesses and transactions in all offices and departments of the public service, including proceedings in the legislative chamber shall be conducted in the language.
However, the law excludes some professional bodies like judicial officers and nurses which are bound by the law.

The explanatory note of the law states that it is meant to ensure and enforce such level of fluency and vibrancy in the usage of Igbo language as befits its status as one of the three officially recognized indigenous languages of Nigeria pursuant to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 such that the language will once more be proudly spoken and written by **Ndigbo** in Nigeria and the Diaspora, and used for broadcasts in reputable international media.

Recently, Governor Obi also promised to build Chief Chiedozie Ogbalu Igbo Language School that will cost the government N50.5 million for specialized and holiday programmes in Igbo.

Man, 30, nabbed with human parts in Lagos
Cover Stories Jun 7, 2010
By Evelyn Usman

Emotions ran high Monday at the Oduduwa, Ikeja office of the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Frank Mba, following startling revelations of how the dismembered remains of a teenager was exhumed from Era cemetery in Ijaniki area of Lagos, 12 hours after it was interred.

The dismembered human parts included a fresh head, which still had long braids, indicating it was that of a female, two severed hands and legs and intestines.

The human parts were recovered from a 30-year-old man last week at Ijaniki area of Lagos by policemen attached to Ojo division.
The suspect, identified as Femi Ade, during interrogation by Policemen, confessed to have worked at the cemetery as a security man.
Surprisingly, the human parts were identified as that of a teenager simply identified as Seki. Ironically, the bereaved family were reportedly taken to the cemetery by the suspect, who unknown to them, had a sinister motive.

Explaining the circumstance that led to his arrest, Frank Mba said: “At about 11.30 a.m, police operatives attached to Ojo Division while on a routine stop and search on June 3, 2010, sighted a man on an unregistered Suzuki motorcycle, with a black nylon bag tied on the carrier.

“Acting on reasonable suspicion, the policemen flagged down the motorcycle to conduct a search where the items inside the nylon were discovered to be suspected human parts. During interrogation, the suspect confessed that they were exhumed from a cemetery in Ijaniki area.
“To ascertain his claim, he was taken to the cemetery where it was discovered that the grave of the deceased has been massively tampered with. He even demonstrated to the policemen how he usually open the grave and carry out this horrible operation.”

Before being whisked to the station, the suspect, it was gathered, offered the policemen N50,000 as bribe to facilitate his release but it was reportedly turned down.
On his part, Femi claimed the human parts were given to him by a staff at the cemetery to take to a herbal mixture seller he identified as Lanre, at Ojo market.

Although he claimed not to know the whereabout of the staff whom he simply identified as Baba he said he was to get N1500 from the errand.
Other items recovered at the Ogun State-born suspect’s home, according to the police, were dried human bones and teeth. These items, Femi explained, were usually exhumed to allow for space to bury fresh dead bodies. The items, he claimed, were used by herbalists to prepare concoctions for those looking for employment

Are you a parent? Are you fond of leaving your children with your parents, in-laws, neighbors or other relations? Then, you need to read this to be extra careful on leaving your “most precious gifts” with anybody.

On that fateful Wednesday, when Mr. and Mrs. Babalola had a programme to attend outside their home at Ile-Ife, they thought of a secure place to keep their three children. After deliberating for a while, they agreed to keep the children with their maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ibidun Makinde, 75, living at Agbedegbede Street, Ile-Ife. They appealed to the old woman to assist them take good care of them.

She assured them of their safety, more so, since that would not be the first time of the children staying with her. Joyfully they left Ile-Ife allegedly “for Lagos to attend a naming ceremony”. The children quickly adjusted themselves to the new environment. They started playing when their parents took them there.
Angel of death

At noon, one of the brothers of their mother, Ogunyemi Oluleke, 30, entered the family house where grandma was living. He came from his house located at Iredunmi to visit their house. A reliable source narrated that grandma was not in when Leke arrived.
”We learnt that he sent one of the children, Moshood Babalola, 12,on an errand to buy him rice. After eating, he told the boy to go and wait for him in a particular place at Oke -Itase. The boy complied and that is the last time he was seen alive”, a source disclosed.

When the grandma returned, she started looking for the boy. They searched all the likely places to no avail. Moshood parents returned and frantically continued the search for days. Emotion took over. Wailing and anguish pervaded the air. The grand mother and Mr. Babalola Sikiru, Moshood’s father went to ‘A’ Division Police station, Moore, to report that his lad was missing. Police joined family, friends and neigbours in the task of finding Moshood. Special prayers and fasting began.

Not missing, but kidnapped
From information gathered by the police, it soon became clear that Moshood was kidnapped and not missing. Who kidnapped him? Where, when and how? These were the question everyone was interested in getting answers to. Kidnapping cases are rare in the community.
One of the children later told the search team “It was brother Leke who told Moshood to go and wait for him at Oke-Itase”. Pronto, police and others moved to Leke’s house .He denied ever seeing the boy or sending him on errand.

“He lied fluently that nobody suspected him after his explanation. Moreso, he is a brother to the Moshood’s mother. Though, we know him as an herbalist. It never crossed anybody’s mind that he could do any harm to any of his family members or close relations”, a source disclosed. The search and prayer continued.

Found in pit latrine, cut to pieces!
When the boy –dead or alive-was not seen on time, a crack team of police detectives from State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) took over the case. Osun State CID is headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Ebenezer Adeyemi Gbolahan. The team again interrogated the suspect.
“He still denied knowing Moshood’s whereabouts. He even looked so harmless and was weeping to affirm his innocence. Police team later took him to his house for searching.

It was during the search that some intelligent, experienced detectives got some clues that linked the boy’s disappearance to Leke. They first saw a freshly plastered ground inside his room. When asked why, he said as an herbalist, he prepared juju and had to bury some component and bath water he used on the ground.

The detectives were about to dig the ground when two of them said they perceived a strange odour. Leke quickly told them that it was from a dustbin at the back. He took them to the backyard where the odour of refuse, feaces and other stinking materials assailed their noses. But like trained, hunting dogs, the detectives continued to sniff around the premises. One of them, waited for a long time in front of a pit latrine. He peered through the pit. He later ordered that the toilet be broken”, an eyes witness narrated.
And behold, the dismembered body of Moshood tragically stareing all in the face! But his head and private parts were missing.

Singing like canary
Seeing that he has been caught red handed, Leke begged for forgiveness. He blamed the devil for the dastard act. He allegedly confessed to the police that “it was his friend called “Charity” that told him that he needed a boy for money ritual and the boy must be one that his name is known”.
“After bringing Moshood from Oke-Itase to Leke ‘s house which served as his office and residence, the boy was given six tablets of Cypro Cold (sleeping tablet) around 7 p.m.

He slept off and around 11p.m, Charity and Leke went to work. The body minus head and private parts were dumped inside a pit latrine. Leke was weeping after he confessed. He begged for the mercy of God and government and forgiveness from Moshood’s parents and others. It was a pathetic scene”, a reliable police source disclosed.

The news of discovery of dead body of Moshood and Leke’s confession spread throughout the ancient town of Ife. Thousands of people gathered to see the “face of murderer”. They became wild and requested for the killer’s head. Police smartly took him away to Osogbo. However, the mob vent their anger on his house-It was razed down!
The AC (CID) confirmed the story, disclosing that Leke had been arraigned in Magistrate Court, Osogbo and now being remanded at Ilesa prison.

RE:Izuogu invents new tool to end energy crisis

Similar feats have been killed by Nigerian leaders. I wish Izuogu the luck of finding a place in the world where he can apply his invention. He can start on Biafran land. But can they allow him to? Yorubas and Hausas will peruse the constitution and quote how federal exclusive legislative lists impacts on that.

chief Akinyele/President Jonathan on 2011 ambition

Sir,
In your true self as Chief Akinyele, you accepted that the so called zoning arrangement is not in our constitution, but the north should complete their eight years birth-right regime. Fine sir, you and your northern cabals should explain to Nigerians why Gen. T.Ironsi was not allowed by the same North to complete his own tenure, so all so Chief Shonneke.
If president Jonathan & co are doing fine, your suggestion Sir Allex Akinyele is that Nigerians should stop a winning team, in order to satisfy the interest of North/ the stupid zoning formula.Look PDP must be very careful in tackling issure of zoning ,otherwise they will loose the residenail seat in 2011 election.

Izuogu invents new tool to end energy crisis

The new invention will offer uninterrupted power supply at no cost, says the inventor.

This was the view expressed by most of those who attended an investor’s dinner in Abuja where the invention was presented and demonstrated.

The invention called Self-Sustaining Emagnetodynamics Machine, according to the inventor, Izuogu, was made possible after over 30 years of research and work.
Already, the machine has received patent from 104 countries and is recognized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Presenting it to the investors at the dinner which included former Vice-President Alex Ekwueme, Senator Osita Izunaso, Gen. Chris Garuba (Rtd), Alhaji Alani Bankole, Prof Peter Onwualu who is Director-General of Raw Material Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Izuogu said the machine is capable of generating as much megawatt of electricity as could power Nigeria.

"We are here today to announce to you that this machine can give uninterruptible electricity power supply to our nation and because it uses no input energy to operate, government can indeed make Nigerians pay nothing for electricity."
He said that the new invention, when fully installed, would also eliminate running cost as it is self-sustaining and needs no diesel or petrol to power it.

The machine, he said, became possible after turning the two laws of emagnetodynamics into interpretable work.

"We are here today because some 33 years ago, while I worked as a missionary itinerant evangelist of the gospel in Benin City, the Almighty God gave me a vision of a machine that could help solve the energy problems of the world. Right there in 1980, I received the two laws of emagnetodynamics.

"By June 5, 1982 I had succeeded in turning these two laws into a working machine. It was very exciting but because of the frightening and intimidating effects of the well known science laws, I was scared to publish my findings. I wished to work more and prove these things very well. So, I worked fro another 27 years before I approached the World Intellectual Property Organisation for a patent.

"Under the direction of the WIPO, patents for this invention have now been filed in 104 nations of the world," he said.

Describing the machine, WIPO said "the self-sustaining emagnetodynamics machine utilizes a theory that is different from the age old theory on which electric motors have been built for over five hundred years since the days of the great inventor and scientist, Michael Faraday."

WIPO said: "The present invention is a magnet motor that utilizes the inventor’s first and second laws of emagnetodynamics as well as the inventor’s horse orientation theory of magnetism."

It said, "the critical feature of this machine is that it is distinguishable from earlier invention of the non self sustaining emagnetodynamics machine in that the self-sustaining machine generates a feedback current which provides release from the backlash stators and therefore the machine is able to run without any external source of energy."

PATHETIC

The Story of my abduction.

I was traveling from Aba in Abia state back to PortHarcourt where I reside after a marriage introduction ceremony of my youngest sister Nene in my family house in Aba. I left the house at about 4pm that day 15/5/2010 with my small uncle Anayo and a cousin Maureen. Maureen dropped somewhere in Aba while I proceeded to Portharcourt with Anayo. We had barely traveled 11km when we met what appeared to be a routine Police check point at Ihie. Normally we were flagged down for routine check at about 5pm or even later. I was asked for my driving license which I produced, I was asked to come down and open my boot and it was at this point that I was told to enter a waiting Kia saloon car facing right and at right angle to the main express road. Other vehicles were stopped simultaneously for stop and search. An SUV that refused to stop was sprayed with bullets with apparent missing of targets and within about 5minutes the operation was over. About 2 vehicles carried the victims, a Kia saloon and a Pathfinder SUV. Some of us were loaded in the booths. After 5minutes drive into the village we were all blind folded and now driven through untarred bush roads to an isolated location which was a transit point. It took about extra 5minutes to get there. You know things were happening fast and it was so easy to lose tract of time. At this temporary site, we were thoroughly beaten with the butts and barrels of the gun. I never knew pains could be felt in quick succession after trauma to a particular point. When I was hit at the back with the AK47 assault riffle, I felt the first superficial pain and this was followed immediately by another crushing pain much deeper. We were about 15 people, men, women and children. After about 4hours, the women and children were driven back to the road to find their ways home. We the men, about 9 in number now waited for the next 1.5hours to be taken to their so-called police cell were they kept captives. In the transit camp where we were kept, there is one small house inhabited by a woman and some 2 or 3 children. The woman had normal conversations with our captors and her small baby was always crying. We left the temporary area in the same 2 vehicles and by 10minutes we were in the cell. The place was surrounded by bushes and harbored a roofed but un-completed block house with doors. A standby generator was on and I had lifted the scarf over my eyes a little long before we left the transit location. We were bundled into a dark room wit one window and with 8 captives inside already. The mode of capture of these previous 8 was targeted and not as random as ours. Example the councilor was visited by them as a Police team in a Police vehicle and informed that he was wanted in the police station in connection with certain matters. He followed them willingly. We could only sit or lie down with our eyes covered. We were 17 in number in my cell. These include 3 Royal highnesses (The Eze of Isuochi, The Eze of Omuma, and another very important Eze that I couldn’t quite identify well because he was taken away shortly for ‘special treatment’ and remained there after I left), the councilor representing a constituency in Omuma (hypertensive and diabetic), a retired NNPC manger (diabetic), a retired CBN supervisor, a PTI lecturer/pastor, 2 yahoo fraudsters, drivers, a tailor, and some others. Our cell phones, money and every other belonging were taken from us apart from our clothing. Food is never given to the captives and water is dispensed at extreme discretion of the captors and by my calculation this amounted to 500mls alternate daily. At a point the councilor drank my water as I moved a little out of my position to urinate. As it was close to midnight, the captors encouraged us to pray and came in periodically to check on us. I must tell you that we all prayed as never before till morning. We also continued to pray like that every day. For me it was as true as daylight. The next day was a Sunday and at about 9am, the captor in-charge of making contacts for the captives came into our cell enquiring for people needing to contact their people for early release. It followed the sequence from interrogation about yourself and work to brutality and torture, bargain for release and possible mortal injury following failure to reach an amicable settlement. One of the captive’s phone lines was always used for these contacts. The man in charge of the contact making is called a name. I figure he is the 3rd in command in the camp. He comes with aides who brutalize the captives mercilessly on failure to agree to a stated bill which runs into millions of naira. My initial bill was N10million even though it came down to N2m later. I was now asked to talk to my people. I talked to my people and returned the phone to the captors for negotiation with my people. The first bidding amount from my people was N100,000 which earned me the beating of my life in the hands his aides. I was hit with the gun repeatedly and while pointed close to my neck with the gun corked and uncorked severally and with several simultaneous kicks on the head and body, I was asked to talk to my people. The beating was temporarily halted when impressed it on my people of the need again to be ‘reasonable’ amidst my cry of pains. I was one of the youngest captive. One can now imagine the impact of the brutality on an elderly man and the sick people. On that Sunday the councilor was beaten blue and black on failure to accept the N10million request fast. This was a frail looking man with 10 children, a wife and with the whole extended family as dependants. He collapsed with repeated hits on the head, ribs, hands and every other parts of the body with the butt, barrel of the gun and woods measuring 2inch x 2inch in thickness. He was literally left helpless on the floor. He constantly bemoaned his fate and wished to die in his house where his corpse will at-least be seen and given a burial unlike the camp here where our captors will bury him. He recovered a little by Monday but that never gave him any reprieve as he continued to receive thorough beating like the rest of us. Many of us all cried like babies. The councilor got his people to sell his new car, his lands, and several other belongings and all amounted to the sum of N450,000. He also sought to collect the month’s contribution among 10 of his colleagues amounting to N500,000 which never materialized by the time I left them. My brother it was pathetic for the diabetic and the hypertensive. It is noteworthy that age was no barrier to the brutality because we had 2 people who were above 70years of age, the Eze of Omuma and the Eze of Isuochi. The first received thorough but a moderated level brutality which increased sequentially with each daily failure to meet the captors’ demand while the second, though brutalized, had some significant consideration because he is 74years. His wife had to walk virtually the whole streets begging for money and he also had to sell lands. The rest received the same level of brutality and torture which increased with every passing day. I tried to get close to the retired NNPC man who is also a pastor because I felt he never understood the psychology of this group that prefer to call themselves Abia State Militants. He never agreed to any fixed amount and I felt he mistook the initial moderation of the brutality on him as a spiritual effect. He is a retired man and probably over 60yrs of age. However, he was soon to understand that his judgment was wrong. The mercilessness of the boys was un-paralleled because by the time I was leaving the camp on Tuesday night there was a special torture session carried out simultaneously by over 20 of the militants which I myself may have found difficult to recover from despite my good physical fitness. The captors had claimed that a cell phone had been stolen in the camp and all the captives that refused to bargain ‘properly’ were responsible. The captors appear not to have much interest on what they regard as poor fools like drivers, gaunt looking people, mechanics, tailors etc. Even though the ‘poor fools’ sometimes pay all their savings to the captors, they tend to receive good considerations in terms of length of stay only. I left the camp after the direct negotiation between my people and my captors went through. We left the camp at about 10pm on Tuesday. Those released that night were the Professor (Eze of Isuochi), one pastor, one driver and my humble self. Three of us were bundled into the booth of a Nissan Pathfinder SUV while Prof was given the privilege of sitting down comfortably inside the car. As we left the camp, one or two small boys were moving about close by and our captors questioned the supposed strangers in a loud voice asking “who be that” and the small boys (I say small boys from their voice on reply) answered “I beg na indigenes”. The Eze of Omuma was released a day earlier after paying the sum of one million two hundred thousand naira. After about 5minutes into our journey to freedom, the SUV stopped suddenly and refused to start again. After a few futile attempts to start the car, the four armed captors disembarked and called the camp for another vehicle. They identified their position as opposite the Nigerian Police Station. In less than 4minutes a new Toyota corolla arrived for us to continue our journey. I was asked to enter the booth with the pastor/PTI lecturer. They discharged us at Ihie junction and gave us transport money. We all walked bare footed because even our shoes were collected. I received N500.00. They also informed me that my vehicle was at the Police station. The Prof and the released driver proceeded to Portharcourt while I proceeded to Aba with the pastor. I arrived my family house at Aba at about 12:09am on Wednesday to the jubilation of my parents and every other person in the house and on the street. I am grateful to my relatives who contributed immensely for my release. They include my parents, my wife, my brother, my sisters, my cousin, my uncles abroad, my in-laws, my mother’s uncle, my aunt, the pastors who prayed continually, my local church, my genuine friends who acted promptly and several well wishers.
I did not involve the police and it was the best decision. The location of the camp is not hidden. The subdued villagers know them and also know all their locations. Again the terrain of the area consisting of thick bushes, well spaced houses and the bad nature of the road all combine to favor the use of those locations by the militants. The militants tend to wear military uniforms in the camp and police uniforms with police bullet proof vest outside the camp for their normal operations. They carry AK47 assault riffles and perform drills each morning in the bush around the cell building- the so-called camp. All the boys spoke the local dialect- asa/ngwa version of igbo language. The chairman/leader of the group who authorized each release has facial tribal marks, speaks same dialect. It may not surprise me if he is a northerner and security personnel. It is impossible that the security agents do not know their position. The joy of release subdued all the pains. I also forgot I had not eaten for 4days. I proceeded to Ihie Police station to collect my car as I was informed by my captors as my car was too old for an operational vehicle. I saw the vehicle at local police station at Ihie. I fulfilled their formalities, made statements and informed them of the release of Prof. In doing these I guarded my utterances because you never know who the insiders were. I also spoke with the DPO of the station. I also met some special police units who came on routine patrol to the police station and narrated my ordeal to them. On this visit to retrieve my car I also observed that the security agents concentrated their presence on the express road leaving the entire village empty. My brother even the people you are supposed to report to are scared and appear helpless. You also cannot rule out their support from politicians because of several boasts of installing candidates come 2011. Information flow freely in the camp there; it is unimaginable how the information comes without government/security insiders. It also appeared they were planning relocation soon based on the insiders’ requests; possibly because of impending raid by government forces. They claim to pay some insiders-the normal Nigerian settlement.
It is pathetic the level Abia state has degenerated to. It is a level just slightly above those of animals and the bottom line is greed, corruption, power drunkenness. I understand Imo-state is following closely.
I became ill on Thursday- the cumulative effects of the ordeal. My heart goes out to the innocent men still in captivity. I wonder if they will make it alive. They include the retired NNPC manger/pastor in Winners chapel (Yoruba), retired CBN supervisor (igbo), the councilor (Omuma), The Eze who I could not identify well.
What if these kidnappers were ritualists; what would have been our fate; it is all greed, corruption, power drunkenness. Until there is good and committed leadership everything will continue to go downhill.

"Fourteen fans injured in South African stadium crush

Fans were attempting to get in to see the Nigerians play North Korea
Thirteen people have been injured and one policeman seriously hurt after a crush outside a South African ground hosting a World Cup warm-up game.

Several fans fell under a rush of people outside the Makhulong Stadium in the Johannesburg suburb of Tembisa.

Entry to the friendly game between Nigeria and North Korea was free and many more than the 10,000 capacity turned up for the match.

"The crowd overpowered me and I went down," said one fan, Japhta Mombelo.

"I fell down and people just fell over me."

The first crowd surge came when the stadium gates were opened to allow fans entry.

Police soon closed the gates, but when they were re-opened, a second rush occurred, with more people falling over.

"When we were coming in, they were just stepping on us," another fan, Princess Mbali, who was wearing a South Africa shirt, said.

"I thought I was dying. I was at the bottom."

The incidents have provided the wrong sort of build-up to the World Cup that the South African authorities would have wanted

The policeman, who has been taken to hospital, was reported to have been crushed against one of the gates.

The crowd was mainly made up of local South African and travelling Nigerian fans.

Police said that hundreds of them were also holding photocopies of tickets and tried to break down the gates after the match had started and police had closed them.

In a separate incident the game was then stopped for five minutes in the second half when a railing collapsed inside the stadium.

The incidents have provided the wrong sort of build-up to the World Cup that the South African authorities would have wanted, the BBC's Piers Edwards, outside the stadium, says.

The venue is not a World Cup venue, but the incident is likely to heighten security even further ahead of the World Cup opener between South Africa and Mexico at Soccer City on Friday, our correspondent says.

The game itself finished 3-1 to Nigeria, with Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Victor Obinna Nsofor and Obafemi Martins scoring for the Super Eagles, while Jong Hyok Cha was on target for North Korea."

Lead Poisoning of Zamfara Kids

(Senator) Yerimah (or whatever he is called) spends thousands of Dollars marrying alleged under aged teenager while the State he left in abject poverty have kids dying as a result of Leads poisoning from illegal Gold mining.

Illegal Gold mining in Nigeria you queried? Yes oh!. Illegal mining has been going on for years in Northern Nigeria with no questions asked. I feel sorry for these kids whose parents breed like rabbits and use the kids for economic exploitation such as begging especially in Southern cities such as Lagos.

NFF: Nigeria Foolish Federation

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has come out with a confirmation that it is planninga one billion naira, ultra-modern secretariat to serve as a legacy for the round leather game in the country.

NFF chief media officer, Ademola Olajire, however, said top shots of the federation were shocked by a report in the media that they are thinking of building a N210m edifice.

“The figure quoted is not correct. What we are planning is a modern Secretariat that can compare favourable with the best Football Federation headquarters in the world. And that certainly will not be going for N210 million.

“We have a fantastic architectural design for what we want and that will cost in excess of N1 billion. The N210 million being wrongly quoted is the amount of money that we have on ground presently, and not the sum that will finish the project,” Olajire stated.

He, however, pointed out that the board led by Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi has been up to scratch in its management of funds, especially from world governing body, FIFA.

“For the past four years of the Sani Lulu Abdullahi administration, the NFF has not touched one kobo of the grant of $250,000 that FIFA gives to each Federation on annual basis.

“Also, after the successful completion of the FIFA Goal Project 1 – the building of the Technical Centre and the FIFA Football Turf – we have been able to secure FIFA approval for the Goal 2.

“As a result of this, FIFA has given us the start –off of $400,000. That is the total of $1.4 million that is being talked about,” The Glasshouse voice box pointed out.

Olajire also confirmed that the NFF is in advanced stage of discussion with a leading construction company firm to partner the NFF in the building of the Secretariat.

“The firm will have some benefits for the partnership”, he said, while recalling that the NFF also significantly upgraded the FIFA technical centre, which has now significantly reduced funds spent on hotel bills for the junior national teams during camping.

Country like Brasil who have won about 5 world cups have not thinkm about this. Honestly this is a broad day pen robbery in highest level. upon that Nigeria can not even win Nations Cup. Now I understood why nigeria is affraid of Biafra because we did not have quater of that amount to build Misiles ( Ogbunigwe ), Tanker, refinery, Airport, etc by ourself.

Is better iam a slave in Biafra than to be a King in Nigeria.
