It is interesting (and sad) to see that other states such as in south have received funds more that $400k but Bihar received only $35k. Bihar needs the most but receives least. It may be something to do with the fact that there are lot less Biharis live outside the country, especially in US. Not sure if other NGOs have similar record. Although monetory contribution is the easiest way for those who live outside Bihar, but I think more effective way is to get involved in specific projects working for the poor. The small size low budget projects seems to be very efficient and effective. But first we need to find project and willing and committed people in Bihar. Any idea ???? |

I don't pretend that I am devoid of the cast ideaology as many others in this forum are doing. I am living in Bihar itself. so, my reaction is just based on the day to day feeling and not on the newspaper only.I am living in an area which is ruled by the upper cast people and not the Laloo. we are forced to listen abuses, vulgar comments, taunting, jokes,and profanity in the name of Lallo for which my family were never allowed to cast their ballet. Mr. s.K Singh, my earlier posting was not meant for you only. Have you read the posting made by your friend Neena Prasad and others? I haven't seen your reaction on that.Bluntly, I would say that most of the people like you become happy whenever there is some bad comment on lower cast ruler like Laloo not because he is a bad politician but due to your own cast feeling that is running with blood. Try to purify yourself. Gone are the days when 'Savarns' were holding the key of water wells now you should tolerate for a while! after all you people have made similar feeling for the downtroddens for hundreds of year. Finally, I would like to add here that I am directly contributing and serving to the State than most of the you.I categorically reject the way the Bihar government is ruling but he will remain in power as long as Savarns will keep their mentality as they were having in 16th century.If you really want to Contribute to Bihar(or the nation) then please be humble and tolerant.The onus of Mis-ruled or bad image of the state lie more on you. Good Hopes are always there- Give a Chance to Nitish.Bye and best wishes to all. |

The fact of life is that we are all born with multitude of identities and none of them are contradictory to each other but they all are relative. Let me share my personal experinces with you all. Many of you would have had similar experiences. When I was studying in Bihar, my caste identity was the most prominent as a relative tool in the society. And then I went to Delhi and my Bihari identity took over. And now I am abroad where my Indian identity is the most important identifying criterion. In my South Asian identity plays a very dominant part as well and Indians and Pakistanis share so many visons, aspirations and even discriminations together as one entity. Are these multiple identities contradictory to each other? NO!!! Is having an identity problem? NO........The problem arises when we allow ourselves to be misguided and mobilised on the basis of these identities for the benefit of other forces. Like in Bihar, someone is exploiting our caste identity and someone is busy exploting our religious identity for theoir own benefit. No one is bigger or smaller evil....all of them are equally at fault for playing with the emotions and even life of millions of innocent hardworking and honest people. We all, irrespective of our identities deserve greatest opportunity to atleast explore our potential to the fullest. It heart warming to read some positive discussion. Lets work for a greater good and do whatever little we can do. Sid |
